Lovely location and nice clean rooms. Staff very helpful. Would definitely stay again. Probably longer as we only stayed one night as driving to Ibiza. Breakfast very good. Car parking safe and secure. San Sebastián lovely beach and nice walk along promenade. Found nice bar serving tapas and met some friendly locals. Overall excellent stay and would do again.

This is a hotel that will not win prizes for design, cosiness or atmosphere but it does not promise these things. The location is near the Ondaretta beach and Monte Igueldo. So great for the beach, as Ondaretta is probably the nicest patch of sand in San Sebastian, where the ebbs and flows are not as prominent as on Concha. To the centre one has to walk along the promenade by the sea – certainly the nicest walk in the city. It is not very far, but takes about 20 minutes. However, literally in front of the entrance to the hotel there is a bus stop. Buses nos. 5 and 25 go to the very centre, they were never full and we hardly waited longer than 3 minutes. The room is basic in décor, but sufficiently comfortable. It has a fridge and a safe. I usually never watch TV in hotels but this was Worldcup time so I am happy to report that the TV was HD and the quality of the signal was OK. Wifi very good. Maybe not the safest connection (no login and password, just open network), but for browsing hugely comfortable and the connection surprisingly good for a hotel. Also good value when compared to other hotels in San Sebastian. Breakfast nothing special - a typical 3 star Spanish/Italian standard and served in the basement but perhaps worth having just to eat something before going out as in San Sebastian breakfast should be small so that one could later enjoy all the amazing food.

Hotel Codina is conveniently located close to the Ondarreta beach and the University, at about 25 minutes walking distance from the center. It has a somewhat fair price for the quality. However rooms are a bit small and quite noisy (on every side of the building), I was at the second floor and had to shut every window to reduce the noise. I was told by colleagues that the 7th floor was better. Breakfast is served in the basement, in a room with no windows that I personally didn't like (the buffet was good but over 10 euros is just too much). From the second day, I went to have breakfast in one of many many cafes or pastelerias in the street. The supermarket SuperMatia is 50 meters away from the door. Internet connection is, at best, intermittent: email could be read and sent but limited bandwidth made impossible to make a skype call. In another occasion there was just no connection at all (a screen of the Spanish provider asked me to reconfigure the whole hotel's network and no member of the staff realized that or was able to reset the system). The service was operating again a few hours later. Not bad buy honestly I would suggest to look after better locations.

Room Tip: Try high floor to reduce noise coming from the streets.

I recently stayed at this hotel and it was great - clean and modern, helpful staff. Rooms were well appointed. Great location - a few streets back from the beach and about a 25 minutes 'promenade' along the waterfront to the main part of town. If you didn't feel like walking there was a bus stop just outside the door and bus fare of 1 euro 65 cents would get you into the main part of San Sebastian (buses 5 and 25)

Nice hotel, we stayed here in June 2014, might be a tad far to walk to the town centre but most of the walk can be done on the beach (tides permitting), there were 2 buses (25 & 5) directly outside hotel into town, just be careful on your way back as bus does not pass hotel until its on its way back to town!! Staff very polite, breakfast unlimited buffet with a good range of options. We paid extra for a room with balcony with a beach side view don't bother as its not possible to see the beach but you can see the sea.

Stayed for 3 nights with my family in June 2014 during our vacation trip around Spain. Friendly, efficient & helpful hotel staff - from the reception to the coffee shop counter. Small but functional lobby. Nice ground floor coffee shop counter for a quick cafe con leche with croissants. Rooms were not too big but comfortable and functional. Located in a quiet area away from the Old Town where the tourist spots are, but easily accessible via a 5-min. bus ride from the front of the hotel or a leisurely 30-min. stroll on the boardwalk along the beach. An added plus was that the bus going to Santuario de Loiola (birthplace of St. Ignatius) in Azpeitia passed in front of the hotel so we did not have to go to the station in Plaza Pio XII to catch the bus.

We stayed at the Hotel Codina for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon in July 2013.

The receptionist was kind enough to give us the best room in the hotel, high up on the top floor the front (beach) facing room with an enormous balcony, which was incredibly nice.

The room was comfortable and clean, and we enjoyed the views from the front of the balcony immensely.

We had breakfast in the hotel ground floor cafe each morning relatively cheaply (tomato bread and coffee works a treat) rather than going for the breakfast buffet which was down in the basement level. The bus stops out the front (route 5 or 25) will take you straight to the San Sebastian old town area, which is where all the action is, but as for getting home again late at night, there can be a bit of a wait for buses at that end. Its walkable along the beach but its a lengthy 30 minute walk. For this reason, I would probably have wanted to stay in a more conveniently located hotel but there were none that seemed as good value as Hotel Codina. There didnt appear to be many restaurants or bars around the hotel that we could find. There was a small supermarket a few blocks away.

The beach is a short walk away, and that end of the beach is probably a little less crowded than the end closer to the old town. The water was extremely chilly though it was the peak of summer!

The only major problem we had continually was that the free wi-fi kept dropping out constantly and it was difficult to get, we had to occasionally walk down the hallway or down to the lobby if we wanted to check something urgently. This is likely because we were up on the top floor.

We would definitely consider staying again if we were to return to San Sebastian.

Room Tip: Choose the highest floor with a balcony for a fabulous view but these rooms may experience internet...
