“Incredible views, wonderful staff, away from the city but so close”
Reviewed 12 April 2012

This is a jewel of a hotel, high on the luscious green hill overlooking La Concha. When we arrived at our room our jaw just dropped when we stood on the terrace that overlooked the Atlantic from sheer cliffs. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, it is only a short bus ride away and the bus stops right on the hotel's doorstep. The staff spoke excellent english and were extremely helpful. The room was very clean and nicely appropriated. Our room was somewhere around $80 and it was worth so much more.

Room Tip: Get a room with a terrace, the views are amazing. The Los Angeles room on the corner was especially...

We stayed three nights in October 2010 for $60 a night in this wonderful small hotel high on the hill overlooking San Sebastian [Donastia in Basque]. Bus stops right in front of the hotel and you should take it back and forth to the old town for supper even if you have a car. Breakfast included and it is very good. Views of the sea from every room. The owner is very very helpful and friendly too. A really restful place to stay on a busy trip. Gorgeous drive from there to Guernica too.

Room Tip: The rooms are all good.

My husband and I went to Northern Spain for our honeymoon, and spent part of the time in San Sebastian. We were traveling on a budget, but still wanted a special experience. Boy am I glad that Hotel Leku Eder had a room available for us. I e-mailed the staff to ask about availability and let them know it was our honeymoon- they said they would do their best to get us an ocean view and they did! The hotel is up a hill from the beaches, but is very accessible by bus. We had our own car that we rented, so for us, the free parking was great. The rooms are comfortable, but what was exceptional was the balcony and the view. Also, Ignatio who owns the hotel was a wealth of information, and very eager to help us get the most out of our vacation. He is a one-man tourist office! His help made our stay exceptional. The free breakfast was in a lovely room, and the food was ample and varied. The staff were eager to accommodate everyone's needs. Rates are a little higher during high-season, but it is still a great deal.

It's been long since I've been so pleased with a hotel as I was with Leku Eder. The location helps a lot, with the views being those that you can see in the pictures (i.e. pretty much all you could possibly want, if you are a sea lover), however that's not all. The staff are all extremely helpful and friendly, and are manning the Reception 24h, which I was very impressed with.

Leku Eder modestly claims only 2 stars, although I have been in 3-star and even 4-star hotels that did not have the warm feeling and the classical, antique furniture that you can find in this little family-run hotel. For me, what contributed to the very homely, cozy atmosphere in the room were the dimmable bed-side lamps.

The breakfast is very good both in quantity and quality, and served in a beautifully decorated corner room overlooking the sea.

The only thing that troubled me during my 5-day stay here were the particularly obnoxious chickens in the neighbours' yard (somewhere between the hotel and the sea) who make really (no, *really*) loud noises starting with about 6AM. There is also a dog who also contributed to the nightly "recitals", and between them, I was awoken every single night at least a few times, for the first 3 nights, until I gave in and bought some ear plugs so as to at least get some good sleep the last 2 nights. However this is obviously not the hotel's fault, hence my 5-star rating of it, and I would definitely come there again (this time, with ear plugs in my suitcase!)

Room Tip: The rooms at the top floor offer the best view. While they only offered me a ground floor room (alth...

This hotel is situated high on the cliffs overlooking San Sebastian and it's funfair. Staff spoke excellent English and couldn't do enough for you. My room had excellent views of the sea and funfair and I thoroughly enjoyed a walk into town through the funfair , taking Funicular down to beach. A late bus dropped me off back at the hotel's door for about a euro from San Sebastian Old Town. An excellent place to stay.

Room Tip: Best Views would be the rooms overlooking sea.

We stayed for 2 nights and although we were very impressed with the staff and breakfast- we felt the hotel was in urgent need of updating. The bed spreads were old and had some stains- and there were weird photos all over the walls in the room. This hotel could easily be made a lot better by replacing the bed spreads and changing the wall hangings. Also we booked a double room and were given twin beds. It's also a bit hard to get to San Sebastian as the buses stop at 10pm so If you want to have wine at dinner this makes it hard to get back. I think it's a little pricey for what you get- and next time would stay closer to town.

We stayed at Hotel Leku Eder in April. What a fantastic place high on the hill about 10 minutes away from San Sebastian. Parking is a massive problem in San Sebastian and knowing that we chose to get out of town. Parking at Hotel Leku Eder is free and what a magnificent view. Breakfast was amazing every morning and the hosts spoke English and were very polite. It certainly is tricky to get there but worth it in the end. There is a bus right outside the door to take you to town which departs every 10 minutes. We absolutely loved the hotel which was amazingly clean and comfortable for the 3 of us. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to spend some time in San Sebastian. Great place to visit. Loved every minute of it. Had 13 wonderful days travelling around spain with our car which proved difficult re parking in Spain.
