Booked this on the strength of TripAdvisor reviews and was not disappointed. The receptionist spoke excellent English and was extremely helpful. Plenty of free parking and the bus runs twice an hour into the town for 1,60 euro each way. So no parking or worries about someone not drinking. Good value, very clean and well appointed rooms. Ours was in the basement, but still had a lovely view - pity the weather wasn't better, but hope to return). WIFI reception was a bit tricky and not possible in our room, but in parts of the lounge. I thought the breakfast was not very inspiring, but then I'm not into cold meat and cheese..

We got to this hotel by pure chance and we considered ourselves extremely lucky. A traditional, family run hotel, spotlessly clean, good breakfast that cost us only 5 euros each (eggs would make it perfect, especially for the vegetarian guests). Room with an incredible view on the secluded cove below. A lighthouse to romantically lit your room up at night....
Very friendly staff, free parking. You can leave your car at the hotel and take the bus to town (bus stops running around 10.00 pm so at night you might have to drive into the city centre but we had no problems with that.)
Highly recommended. We will visit again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a sea view

Quaint hotel with car parking close to San Sebastián. Bus outside which takes you in to San Sebastián. Rooms small but adequate. Spotlessly clean. Excellent staff with brilliant language skills and tourist advice. Good breakfast. Comfortable lounge.

We stayed for 5 nights are this traditional style, family run hotel during the fiesta week in San Sebastian. The staff were extremely helpful, cheerful, friendly and multilingual. Our room had a large balcony overlooking the sea and was a good size: clean, practical with plenty of storage space, nice bath and power sockets etc. Very comfortable beds so we slept well. The hotel is decorated in a traditional style and is quite homely. The location while out of the centre of San Sebastian is pleasant and rural, however, there were times when we found the bus journey a bit long (eg if we wanted to change into beachwear we would have to travel back up to the hotel and then back down to the beach which would mean losing at least an hour in total), however, this is reflected in the price of the hotel as I understand that town centre hotels in San Sebastian are very costly, especially during the fiesta week.

Breakfast was a little dull and the coffee wasn't great, however, it was inexpensive at €5/head. After 3 mornings we decided to breakfast in a café as an alternative/change. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay and thought that the owners ran the hotel very well and that we had made a good choice.

I stayed at Leku Eder in August during "great week" with my mom and sister. I contacted them a few times with questions before booking and they responded right away every time. They are very accommodating and sincerely want their guests to enjoy a good stay at the hotel.

We had a clean room with a large patio and view of the ocean for a very small price. Every morning we were awaken by the sound of roosters and birds as the sun came up and then enjoyed a nice big breakfast in a community room with a view. Although a bit far from the center of town, it was so relaxing and serene up on the mountain and nice to get away sometimes from the chaos of San Sebastian during the summer festivities.

A bus drops off and picks up right outside of the hotel. Tickets cost 1,80 euro per person and they come every half hour. Cabs are not too expensive, but it seems most people choose to use the public buses since they are very convenient.

There is a good restaurant, Buena Vista, about 10 minutes up the hill walking. It's a nice walk with ocean views all the way there and ocean views at the restaurant as well. The food is authentic Basque and the pintxos are good and cheap. (I wish there was someplace to get food closer by or at least a vending machine in the hotel, but this isn't a big enough problem to take a star off from my review). We ate at the restaurant twice and went there for drinks and snacks one night as well.

I will return to this hotel as soon as I get another opportunity to. It was all that I wanted and more. Thank you, everyone at Leku Eder, for making my experience in San Sebastian unforgettable!

We booked a night at the Hotel Leku Eder after reading positive reviews from other travellers. The cost was 105 euros a night which was the average price of hotels in the area, if not a little high for a 2 star hotel oustide the centre of San Sebastian.

The hotel policy is that you can check in from 12 noon which is one of the things that appealed to us about the hotel in the first place as we wanted to get there at 12 noon, unpack a few things and get the bus into town.

We arrived shortly before 12 noon and the receptionist was busy checking in a family, so we sat waiting patiently for our turn. When she had finished checking in the family and had given them their hotel key etc she took our details... The receptionist appeared very friendly and helpful she even spoke English to explain some of the places to visit during our stay. She then asked us if we wanted a twin or double room... to which we replied a double if possible please. We asked if it was possible to have a room with a view as we had noticed some of the rooms were in a more privileged position, that is, terrace with view over the cliffs.. She informed us that these were all full.

The receptionist then showed us the breakfast area and invited us to have some coffee and croissant to which we replied, yes thanks, but we would like to put our things in our room first.
She then informed us our room wasnt ready but was being cleaned at that moment so we wouldnt have to wait long... The ´breakfast´she offered us was warm slices of cheese that were not covered up and some ham... both had been sitting on a plate in the breakfast room uncovered since breakfast... 8 am...

After an hour had passed ... it was after 1pm and we were getting anxious... the hotel policy stated 12 noon check in and we couldnt understand why it was taking so long to clean the room...There were 2 of them cleaning the room... the receptionist went to help them too... At 1.15 she told us it would be 5 minutes... We wanted to get the 1.25 bus into the centre and still the room wasnt ready... At 1.20pm the receptionist said another room was ready but a twin and did we want to put our things in there until ours was ready... At this point we were really unhappy... maybe she could have offered us this at 12 noon when we first checked in... but we had already been waiting over 1 hour and 25 mins so we said NO we would wait 5 minutes more.

We are both in our mid thirties/early forties and have never had this experience before. If the hotels policy is you can check in at 12 noon then you should be able to check in at 12 noon. The hotels policy on vacating the room is 12 noon... so how can they guarantee a 12 noon check in for every room...

Our room was one of the back rooms... with no view or terrace. We would have both gladly paid more for a room with a view/terrace as obviously the experience of the hotel would have been different for us... especially given the wonderful location of the hotel.

Breakfast was very basic... coffee, tea, hot milk, warm sliced cheese and ham (uncovered). There was a sweet croisant on each table side plate (uncovered). Slightly off putting in summer when you can see flies landing on the food...

The view from the hotel ( from the breakfast room ) was lovely and if you are lucky enough to get a room with a terrace/view then your experience may just be different to ours... if you didn´t have to wait over an hour and a half to check in.

The staff at the hotel were helpful and friendly during our stay. They gave us a map of San Sebastian and recommended a few places.

Location is lovely but a bit far out of town if you want to walk. Buses are regular, about every 20 minutes until 11.30pm costing 1.60 each way. Taxis are about 9 - 10 euros.
Parking is free so you have no hassle trying to find somewhere to park but if you weigh up the costs of public transport, that is, buses, taxes etc and the cost of the hotel itself it can work out to be very expensive.

Would we book this hotel again... NO
Would we recommend this hotel to anyone... NO

Our overall experience felt like one of a hostal and at 105 euros a night, an expensive one at that.

Let me add my voice to those who commend this fine hotel. We spent 3 nights there in July and found it to be brilliant. I concur with all the positive comments previously made. We also found the bus service to be reliable and cheap; ask the receptionist to print off a timetable. You don't need to have exact change for the bus driver and you pay as you go - €1.60 per journey.
