Hotel Palacio de Aiete

Nice modern hotel. Good size rooms for europe but poor TV options. Friendly staff that speak English. Good value for money but away from the main town and at the top of a hill. We enjoyed our stay here and the walk up and down the hill (about 2km) to main beach helped work off the Cerveza and tapas! Nice caves bars nearby. Plenty of fruit shops handy too.

Room Tip: Ask for one with a balcony so you sit outside and read.

We stayed for 3 nights and found the service very good . The room was modern and very well appointed with everything you required. The property was well priced in a quiet area. The only small downside was that our room looked out on to the road and did not seem very private from people parking out the front . It is about a 20 minute walk to town .

Room Tip: High room not overlooking the road.

We stayed here one night on our way to Portugal.
Palacio is a functional hotel, 20 minutes away from the beach and city center.
The restaurants opens late for breakfast. Price - quality is ok.
Don't expect a cosy holiday hotel, but clean and functional, not for longer than 1 or 2 nights.

I stayed here on a recent trip to San Sebastian, and picked this hotel because it was the most affordable of the 4 stars at that time. I wouldn't suggest it and certainy wouldn't go back.

While looking at a map, it seems to be close to the beach, in reality it is a decent walk, and about 30 minutes from the old city (ie where you will be for dinner and at night). This is mildly annoying when walking there in the day, but since there are no buses after 10:30 PM, you're looking at either a 30-45 minute uphill walk in the dark or an approximately 10 USD taxi ride every night to get home. It also makes it hard to stop back in the hotel to drop of beach stuff, etc.

The hotel itself isn't up to 4 star standards, and really is more of a 3 1/2. The biggest issue is that you can hear everything through the walls and windows, from yelling in the street to the baby next door that would cry at midnight every day. They were not able to move us when we complained about the noise.

Hotel is modern, room is spacious. Efficient furniture (but separate beds you can join). Bathroom is large, includes a generous bathtub and Bide. Free WiFi with no hassles.
Room was clean (wooden floor), and cleaned daily.
Breakfast buffet is generous, and even the vegetarian among us could enjoy a variety.
Hotel restaurant offers very nice food and atmosphere at dinner for a reasonable price.

Things to consider: The name suggest a romantic 18th century 'Palace' like hotel - nothing of the like. Modern and efficient.
The location is uphill, with no nearby busses. 20 minutes walk to seashore or old city, but you would prefer to return by a taxi (6-8 euro).

Room Tip: We stayed on floor 3, room was very good. Seems as if al rooms are equal.

The hotel is located on a little hill so the view is priceless! San Sabastian is such a tiny little place that getting around the town is very easy. The hotel staff is quiet co-operative and the food in the cafeteria is down right amazing! Infact the best we had in Spain, although options are fairly limited the food is fantastic. One of the biggest drawbacks of the place is that it is very noisy. The guests tend to sing and speak in loud voices which is disturbing and can be irritating specially when one is looking for a quiet evening. Otherwise a good place to stay.

Cheers,
Priyanka

Actually a great hotel and its facilities. Tip would be to follow hotel road sign for Aieti once you get to city as this worked best rather than GPS instructions. Front desk staff very helpful with local info and how to get around San Seb. We walked to old town and back once but taxied back another night. Cafe in foyer is also very good.
