I loved all aspects except the cost (€520 for a couple), then I think what the hell, seriously good food and wine, an experience.

One little grumble on an otherwise excellent night - the wine waiter would have rather been somewhere else, a bit more panache please, we are paying a bucket of money for the best!

This really is another level. Seriously amazing food, in a seriously slick restaurant, with seriously good service. It also costs a seriously bum-quivering amount of money - but compared to a similar experience in the UK (if you could find one) it's remarkably good value. Absolutely memorable, absolutely deserving of its reputation.

Highly rated restaurants can sometimes be a let-down, but Arzak did not disappoint. Although the exterior of the building is nothing special the modern internal decor is very appealing. Our group of four received a warm welcome and received good service and advice throughout the evening. Perhaps the sommelier could have been a bit more forthcoming, but we were comfortable with our wine choices and perhaps he picked up on that. Some of the wines were very keenly priced. The vegetarian member of our group was well catered to which isn't always the case in Spanish restaurants. I'll leave it to others to describe the food. Suffice to say, it was sublime.

We walked past Arzak to read the menu and curiosity got the better of us and we went in to see could we book for sometime in the future. They had a cancellation! We didn't stop smiling for days after this wonderful experience. From the minute we tentativley entered the reception area until we left we felt so welcomed and special. The service is sublime and the taster menu just wowed us through all the courses. Individual likes and dislikes were immediately seen to with no fuss. Juan Mari spoke to each table in the restaurant and is a charming man and extraordinary chef. It was expensive by my standards (good value in wine) but it is an experience that I will never ever forget. Thank you to all the team at Arzak.

OK, 440 euros for a lunch without wine for two people is a lot, really but, wow! Something like 14 completely different tastes, including a lobster morsel served on a glass plate over an iPad with rolling waves! This was pure theater and I wish I go go back often!
