Owner description: This large, 14th century castle overlooking the town of Palma now houses a museum.

The views from the castle are great but the thing I like the most is I love history and there is a museum in the castle that describes the history of Mallorca. Just make sure you start at the right side of the museum. The hop on and off bus makes it easy to get to.

We walked from town up the hill to the castle - not too far if you're used to walking. The countryside round the castle was lovely and worth exploring if you have a bit more time than we had.

The views from the Bellver are worth seeing, but I think the highlight for me was the town museum exploring some of the history of the peoples of Palma and of Mallorca.

The only way to go there is by bus number 3 from Plaza Espana or by tourist bus or by car. If you take the bus, get off at Joan Miro and walk up hill on the road to the castle or get off at the next stop Gomila and follow the sign to Castell Bellver through a narrow uphill road where you eventually end up in a castle gate then walk up the 500 steps up to the castle. It's a great value for money if like us you have a great sunny day and enjoy the a 360 degrees view from the top of the castle. There are the usual memorabilia museum inside.

Met our tour guide and bus driver and headed out to see the Castle of Bellver-the only round castle in Spain. Off to the city of Valldemossa for a walking tour, sightseeing, shopping etc. Stopped to have lunch at an outdoor restaurant and on to tour a winery.

We spotted this whilst on the open top bus and thought it looked worthy of proper visit so went back the next day. It is beautifully preserved and has some extremely informative displays depicting its use and the history of the castle and Palma through the ages. An excellent few hours spent here.
