I booked the Can Cera based on Trip Advisor reviews for our 10th wedding anniversary trip & wasn't disappointed. A beautiful hotel in the old town. I noticed people coming in off the street to take photos of the reception area. I booked the Can Cera suite, the most expensive room available - hey, it was a special occasion. It was lovely - a nice-sized lounge area & four-poster bed, plus modern bathroom. A couple of niggles though - firstly there was a very weird noise (sounded like a distant boat siren) that kept going off intermittently all night, sufficient to wake us up. It seemed to be due to some sort of pump unit in the courtyard below the bedroom window. Also no kettle & tea/coffee-making facilities, although chilled water was available in the fridge. We ate in the restaurant on our 1st night & the food was 1st class. The chef was excellent & made every effort to accommodate my vegetarian husband. Delicious! The two gentleman on Reception were both great - one was Benjamin but didn't catch the other chap's name. V helpful I'd also recommend the private transfer from the airport. The driver (we had the same guy both ways) was also v helpful & pleasant.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- At over 700 years old, Can Cera has one of the longest histories in Palma. The building dates back to before 1232 when Jaume I conquered the island with Catalan and Aragonese troops. Located inside the ancient city walls close to the Cathedral, Can Cera is in the very heart of the Old City, between the Plaza de Santa Eulalia and the Plaza de San Francisco. Over the years, Can Cera’s many owners have made alterations to the original building. The most important of these were done in the 17th Century, when –as in many of the surrounding houses– Italian Renaissance architects inspired the creation of the celebrated patios, giving the houses their singularly attractive, yet austere, character. Inside, the house is significant and rich with well-proportioned rooms, high ceilings of sculptured plasterwork, balconies and above all, palatial adornments. Today, Can Cera, has been thoroughly renovated and equipped as a first class Hotel. The traditional Majorcan patio, with its majestic arches, exuberant Kentia and other lush plants, leads to the Reception area and the Can Cera Restaurant. A marble stairway leads up to a surprising space: a comfortable and welcoming Home with its original layout intact. Period furniture and contemporary paintings abound. ... more less
