“Grand but Dated”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

Located in a rather shabby part of Palma, 40 minutes walk from centre, but excellent bus service nearby. Gran Victoria Melia is more four star for the price. Excellent but busy pool, outstanding pool attendant, could find a sunbed at the busiest of times. Patchy Wi-Fi, and you have to pay extra for a decent view.

having happily stayed at this fine hotel on several occasion I was dismayed to be told on asking to be moved to a higher floor to escape street noise that this is now part of the Red Level package and is a chargeable extra. We purposely book a premium priced front line room as only staying for a few days we like to treat ourselves but felt the whole thing slightly tainted by being told you actually haven't paid enough. The introduction of this ridiculous charge has introduced a feeling of elitism that is uncomfortable and un palatable considering the already premium price. I am sure that probably what is offered sits well with people who are prepared to pay even more for a stay in what is not a cheap venue but it gives the impression that if you did pay then in some way you rank above others. This was evident in the scenes around the swimming pool when they couldn't get sunbeds! Breakfast as ever first class and staff very helpful, what a shame that this silly scheme has been introduced, I don't think I will go back in a hurry.

Dear guest
I would like to thank you for taking the time making your comments known on Tripadvisor.
It is with disappointment that I read your stay with us was not to your satisfaction.
Yes, our higher up rooms with a full sea view are now Redlevel rooms. Our guests do pay extra, but they have fantastic views over the bay of Palma and also the rooms are newly renovated. Also our RedLevel rooms comes with the additional bonus to our wonderful RedLevel Lounge.
We always strive to offer our guests the best service and make their stay with us a memorable one.
We hope to welcome you back to the Gran Melia Victoria one day so that we can change your opinion about us.

Kind regards

This property is an odd one. Must have been the place to see and be seen in 70's Palma. This has lost much of it's veneer and is no longer the happening part of town. But if you get a good deal and if you're paying more than €150 a night for the superior room (the ones with the view of the marina and the bay), you'll feel ripped-off. If you aren't however, and I wasn't, it's a peach. The rooms are dated, the décor is gaudy in a 70's kind of opulence but the service is first rate. Know what to expect and you'll love this place for it's location. Oh, and avoid the Chinese restaurant at the back called the Mandarin. You'd have to have eaten some seriously bad Chinese to rate that place well. Ask for harbour-facing rooms. Pay extra if you have to. Bar is pricey, but hey, this is a five star property even if it's no longer 1970.

Room Tip: Pay the extra to get a harbour-facing room. Get 4th floor and above or just go somewhere else. The W...

Dear Guest
First of all let me thank you for choosing Gran Melia Victoria as your destination here in Palma de Mallorca during your recent holidays and also for taking the time to post your comments here on Tripadvisor.
I am dissapointed to see you call us ¨has been¨. We have many modern facilities in the hotel and we have one of the best views you can find in Palma. Also our DRY bar is top notch and modern with great variety of cocktails. Our swimming pool is one of the biggest in the city of Palma de Mallorca.
We do thank you for all your comments.
We value our guests opinions and try to maintain a high standard of quality and service.
Hope to welcome you back to Gran Melia Victoria very soon.
Best regards

Having stayed here once before we knew what to expect but this time we included breakfast which was well worth it. This time we had a room directly under the bar area which on a couple of nights was quite noisey when they were clearing up at 1 in the morning!!. My only complaint with this 5* hotel is that the drinks are a little pricey and maybe the mini bar in your room should be included in the room price if not then at least provide tea/coffe and water in your rooms. This won't put me off staying here again and will certainly be booking to stay here again in the future.

As you would expect from a 5 star hotel, the service and the offerings of the hotel definitely offer a luxurious stay. The hotel itself is huge and boasts a massive olympic size swimming pool, albeit it's open in the summer months only. Fret not though, for in the winter months you can go for a dip in their indoor heated pool. For smokers, this is one of the few hotels out there that still offer you the option of smoking rooms so if you crave nicotine, this hotel would definitely work in your favor.I traveled in the winter months (November to be precise), so the hotel with its hundreds of rooms was deserted. But what it did mean was that I got an insanely cheap deal to live in luxury. Not sure about how they price their rooms in the summer though. The only real downside (if you could call it that) for the hotel is its location. Whilst it's a stone throw away from the Castle, the bustling center of the city with the Cathedral is a 30 min walk away (or 10 min bus ride).

The front entrance of the hotel is not in the greatest of areas, but the hotel itself is very good. Check in was swift and painless.

Hotel room was clean but for some reason had more furniture in it that necessary, three chairs in one room was slightly over the top, huge bathroom and complimentary clarins toiletries which was a nice touch.

No ironing board in the room which is slightly strange for a 5 star hotel.

Only ate at the pool bar restaurant, the food was expensive but very good.

Great sun bathing terrace, and a lovely pool.

Drinks in the Dry bar are expensive but the measures are very generous, all in all a good hotel with a fantastic view of the marina and excellent staff.

A warm welcome awaited us. Fabulous porters and reception staff, the staff couldn't do more to help us. We were there for our friends joint 50th birthday.

The rooms were spacious, luxurious and immaculately clean with room cleaning daily and an evening turn down service along with chocolates on pillows.

Clarins products were provided daily along with robes and clean towels.

The reception staff were always on hand to advise of great restaurants and bars in Palma City.

You can get to Palma City from the hotel within 5 minutes via taxi. The city is amazing with a cool vibe. A visit to baa co is highly recommended.

The pool is relaxed with a clean towel provided daily.

I can't wait to re visit this amazing hotel soon.

Room Tip: You need to get a room with a balcony to watch the yachts come and go.
