Just a short but steep climb up the hill, overlooking Club del Mar and the cruise ferry terminal. Modern, medium sized hotel, nice rooms, bit small but OK (seaside) Pools, fitness, lounge/bar, restaurant, it's got it all at decent prices. Friendly staff. I walk into work at Club del Mar and even into old town in the eve, though some people find that a bit far and the climb back up the hill keeps your condition ok

Room Tip: seaside, definitely

We couldn't fault this hotel, apart from the evening meals. The room was well appointed and furnished, and kept very clean, like the whole hotel. The staff were very friendly, especially Alan from Hong Kong - very polite and courteous. The indoor pool was especially good, and we enjoyed using it exclusively, like having your own private pool! Unlike many hotels, all the extras like pool towels, safe deposit boxes, wifi etc were free of charge (with a refundable deposit) to guests.
We had a standard room and were offered the option to upgrade when we checked in, but quite frankly, the standard room was as good as a lot of 'superior' rooms I have experienced in other hotels. Unless you particularly want a sea view, don't waste your money on the upgrade.
Ok, it's a bit out of town but we had a car anyway. We did try walking into Palma city centre one day and it took us about 50 minutes, so not too bad - a pleasant walk actually along the harbour front. The hotel doesn't have it's own car park, but there is free parking on the street outside. Vacant spaces are a bit of a premium, but we managed to get one every time, mostly in a cul-de-sac next to another hotel opposite. At first sight it looks as if it belongs to the hotel, but is is part of the public highway and ok to park there.
Now the disappointing part of our stay. We purposely booked this hotel because it advertised buffet style evening meals with exhibition cooking. We don't like being served at the table - ok for some people but not for us. We had a four night stay and enjoyed a buffet dinner on the first night, which showed signs of promise. Plenty of choice and good quality dishes, I had a steak cooked before me by the chef, which was very nice. Unfortunately for the rest of our stay, there were no more buffet dinners due to the low amount of guests eating in the restaurant. We were given a menu with about 4 different items to choose from on each course, but the same menu/choices were used for the subsequent nights. My wife had a steak on one night which quite frankly was uncooked, not even what you would call rare. She couldn't even cut through it. We complained to the waitress who didn't seem really bothered, and seemed in a hurry to pack up and get away as we were the last to dine. I also complained to the manager the following morning, who said he'd 'look into it', but there was no come back or offer of any discount. The food we had from the set menu the following nights was ok, but we would have liked to have had a wider choice and the opportunity to have a salad in between the soup and main course like we do with buffet meals. Being presented yet again with the same fixed menu on the third night I asked to see the head waiter or the manager and was told there wasn't anyone there to speak to until the following morning. The staff could see we weren't happy and admittedly they offered us complimentary wine and water, which we accepted as a peace offering. Having said that, the buffet breakfasts were very good, and fresh tortillas cooked in front of you every morning.
I would recommend this hotel to people, but I think they need to make it clear to guests at check-in that if numbers for dinner are low, meals will consist of a fixed menu served at the table.

Hi all just returned from a 10 day sailing experience on a 3 masted sail boat as volunteer crew ! Needed a couple of days to recover in Palma - starting point & last port of call - went on spec to nearby hotels and invited to view rooms in the hotel Catalonia Majorica - overlooks the harbour & lit up at night. Very friendly english speaking receptionist - thank you Catherine - gave good rate for two days but also suggested I tried on line which I did using their computer ! Even better rate ! Sea view & good size room with nice terrace, bath, shower & bidet excellent bed linen & towels - good bar with huge terrace, outside & inside pools - all for same rate or less than some mediocre/dire rundown hotels nearby. 10 - 15 minute bus ride from Palma centre - bus Nos 03 or 46 close to hotel for E1.50 cents and bus no 01 is 40 minutes from airport for E2.50 cents ! All stop within few metres of hotel front door. Nearby - 10 minute walk is Porto Pi shopping & restaurant complex not usually my thing but has a nice bar - La Bodeguita - run by english speaking & friendly Dutch guy for an easy evening out or take the 46 bus (E1.50c) out to village of Genova for 30 minute ride in mountains to excellent Mallorquian restaurant C'an Pedro great atmosphere & good value excellent food & service - try the Mallorquian soups! Good day out is the little antique train from Palma centre to the village of Soller (3 Euros) & then the 20 minute Victorian tram journey (5 Euro) to the Port of Soller. Some work going on in nearby buildings near to hotel Majorica & funicular to lower street level not working - but hey the walk down steps/street is nice and will give exercise ! Take bus back up though ! Didn't detract from my stay - enjoy !!

Room Tip: Get a sea view for a little more - worth the view.

This was my third stay at the Hotel Catalonia Majorica, and sadly it will be my last.
We were very disappointed to find that the funicular cable car between street level and the hotel was not working, and from the comments made by staff looked as though it would not be working for the foreseeable future, if at all.
The hotel is served on a direct bus route from the airport (Route 100) and we walked from the bus stop along the road to what we knew was the entrance to the funicular. When I called the reception from the door way, I was informed that the funicular was out of order, and we had to follow the road way to the hotel. We had to walk back along the road where we had just walked and then up a very steep hill to the hotel. (If you do stay at this hotel it is worth knowing that steps can be found just along the road from the hotel entrance, next to BQ Augusta (yellow sign), this is easier than following the road.) The hotel Valpariso Palace is also very close to the hotel Catalonia Majorica.
I should point out that I was on holiday with my parents (both in 70’s) and my mother has recently had a hip operation, so this was very hard going. If the hotel or agent had informed us in advance about the funicular not working we would have changed hotel.
We had booked half board, but because on 4 people in the hotel were on this board type, no buffet meals only a set menu with 3 or 4 things per course to choose from, and the same menu was used for a seven day period. We were the only people eating in a quite large restaurant with the staff serving us at the table. Breakfast however was buffet style and you could get the usual (English style) breakfast cooked for you.
For anyone planning a trip to Palma city I would recommend that you stay at one of hotels along the marina front not far from the Cathedral and with the bus from the airport stopping outside the hotel door. The hotels I noted as ideal for my future trips are: Melia Palas Atenea, Gran Melia Victoria,Tryp Bellver, Hotel Mirador, Hotel Costa Azul. If you want to stay next to the main transport hub in Palma (Plaza de Espania)then the UR Palacio Avenida Hotel seemed ideal and good value.
