Well located in a rustic part of the old quarter I had high expectations especially after viewing the photos. In reality the rooms are dull and mismatched. Nothing special about them at all and I wouldn't classify this as a four star boutique hotel. No designer has had any input here. It's satisfactory and there is an ok terrace overlooked by all the surrounding buildings on the first floor. It does have a small plunge pool which is a nice touch. Fine for a stop over but the room really let's it down. Disappointing. Not romantic.

Lovely hotel in a nice refurbished old building in the centre of Palma. It is near the sights, sea, bars and restaurants but still quiet. Our room was big and very comfortable with a weird paper mache mermaid on the door. We could hear other guests having a shower and occassionally stomping around.

Good continental breakfast with freshly squeezed orange juice which makes a change from the usual rubbish juice that hotels usually serve. Breakfast served until 11am which was very civilised.

I did think it was quite expensive but then i don't know the going rate for hotels in Palma.

Summary

Hotel Palau Sa Font is just the most wonderful, and welcoming, boutique hotel in the very heart of beautiful old town Palma Mallorca … a real gem of a place to stay that will make you never want to stay in the many standard international business and leisure hotels again that dominate most destinations.

It really is in the heart of the old town, just minutes away from museums, restaurants and shops, but still secluded at the quiet end of a lively street.

About the hotel

This hotel is a real gem to your senses … an amazing 16th century building with a historic background (you can see the amazing cathedral from a number of points/ rooms and Tower terrace) and has real architectural design contrasts … with lot’s of lovely art displayed in a subtle ways throughout the property.

There are so many lovely touches … from original handmade furniture to Mediterranean-shaded floors, to pictures that make you stop and think. Just wonderful. My favourite are actually something really subtle but beautiful … the handmade lamps dotted throughout the hotel.

Of course, the outside courtyard with a splashing pool and roof top tower are really special.

Boutique Hotel … But still with everything you need

One of the nicest things about Palau Sa Font is that is unique, historic, and eclectic.

And boutique does mean smaller … you are not just 1 of 200 rooms / guests …. But feel part of a select few who have chosen their hotel and want something more special (but at frankly the same money if not cheaper than the chains!)

So whilst not every room is a huge standardised double that you get in chain hotels … you get more quirky rooms, of different sizes … you still have all the things that you would need or take for granted. So you still get air conditioning, 24 hour reception, Free Wi-Fi Satellite TV, Buffet Breakfast, etc etc

Effortlessly consistent service and professionally run

I have stayed in Hotel Palau Sa Font a number of times the last 7 years and what truly makes it special are the staff.

This is a wonderful welcoming and very well run hotel. Nothing is too much trouble for them.

They all look like they love working there and this is reflected in the way you are looked after in a welcoming but confident and relaxed way.

A sign of a really special hotel is that many guest are like me … regular guests who return time and time again.

Finally …

I go back to my original comment … A wonderful boutique hotel in the heart of Old Town Palma Mallorca. If you want something relaxed and special … but not show off and ostentatious … this is the perfect place.

And even better … reflecting the wonderful nature of the hotel … you will be delighted when you have breakfast here.

Everything about their breakfast reflects the lovely nature of the hotel. A wonderful, fresh and beautiful arrangement of food that makes you linger over breakfast twice as long as you normally ever do. Just perfect!

The Palau Sa Font is a small 20 bedroom hotel situated in a quiet street close to the Cathedral and shops of Palma. The hotel itself is listed as a 4-star, however most of those travelling from the UK would recognise it to be more of a very good quality 3-star tourist class hotel.

Welcome / Reception - It was fairly obvious from the start that the Palau Sa Font has an 'excellent service' culture. From the moment we walked in the door until we left 4 days later, the staff could not have been more helpful. It is not possible to single out any one individual as every member of the team gave 100% in terms of customer service.

Guest Bedrooms - There were of a typical Spanish style and fairly basic. The beds are very comfortable and the room was cleaned to a very high standard. In room televisions have English speaking channels and there was a mini-bar. The bathroom was fairly basic, but perfectly functional.

Breakfast - The hotel has an inclusive continental breakfast which was very good in comparison to other's I've experienced in Spain. There were cereals, fruit, yogurt, eggs (scrambled or boiled), fresh bread, pastries and a selection of Spanish meat & cheeses. On arrival you are served with freshly squeezed orange juice. Once again, the service at breakfast was excellent and worth a mention.

Public areas - The hotel has 3 public areas (that I saw). Reception/bar, the pool area and a little hidden tower at the top of the hotel. All these areas were immaculately clean and very comfortable. It's the wrong time of year to go for a dip in their plunge pool, but it looked cute.

Summary - The rooms are basic, but comfortable, Service is excellent, breakfast is delicious and the public areas very useable. The location of the hotel is excellent.

Worth noting that there is no on-site parking and I’m not sure I’d like to drive through the narrow streets to get to it. Once you unload, you’d have to park in one of the nearby public car parks.

Reading other people's reviews I'm surprised that some people were disapointed by Palau Sa Font. I'm not sure what they were expecting for the price in comparison to what you would have to pay for somewhere right in the middle of the old town which had fancier decor. The rooms defintiely are basic but they have nice touches and they are a bit different to the boring corporate norm. The people who run the hotel are excellent and will do anything they can to help out. Breakfast is really good again for the price and the dipping pool is just lovely (although in fairness the walls in the terraced area around the pool really do need a lick of paint now). All in all its a great location and great service with all you need in the rooms on a city break when you are out and about exploring.

Room Tip: The one room that has a terrace is worth it if you can get it
