“Decent rooms, great feel. Don't be put of by the 2* category!”
Reviewed 2 December 2011

Stayed here as a base for cycling trips with my brother. Great atmosphere and quiet sleeping in the heart of Palma. If you want a spa, fitness area etc. etc. then don't go here. Don't let yourself be guided by the (only) 2 * of the hotel. The rooms are simple, decent. I would give them 3*. Breakfast buffet is good. More than enough choice and variety. Fresh fruits available. The entry, courtyard and staff of the hotel get 4 to 5 star. You never get this feel in a big, new hotel.

This is my kind of hotel. Would definitely return.

Room Tip: take a courtyard room. amazingly quiet for such a centrally located hotel

would recommend this place. very atmospheric, clean, excellent breakfast including bucks fizz. Our room was lovely with 4 poster bed. Whilst centrally located, tucked away and despite being near busy road, central shopping area, restaurants and bars close by, couldn't hear any of it.
Inexpensive in comparison to some of the more 'standard' modern hotels and definately full of character

This is a beautiful, affordable and incredibly well-located property. Nevertheless, if your legs are not in good shape, be aware: you may have to climb lots of stairs, with your luggage, since there is neither an elevator nor a bellboy around to help you. If legs are not a factor, stay there! You will be sorrounded by nice restaurants and cafes, near most of the city sights, and palatial environs. Breakfast is quite good, by the way.

Room Tip: Rooms looking into the interior yard seem to be a better choice... quieter, and yet a nice view.

The hotel is hidden in a narrow lane in Palma. It is an old Palace turned into a hotel. There is a patio were you can sit and rest. It is very calm there away from the nearby streets. The rooms are comfortable and there is an air of days gone by. A broad, bent stair case leads to the rooms upstairs. There is a room on the 1st floor where you can sit with a cup of tea if the weather is not good. A fireplace and lovely furniture make you feel like a countess. The bar is open in the evenings, so if you want something ( in my case a nice cup of tea) it is possible. We found the staff very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was very good, yoghurt, bread of different sorts, cereals, cheese, ham, you name it. It was all there. The room was clean and so were the toilets. There are no lifts in the building, which makes it difficult for disabled people. It is a long walk to the sea, if that is what you want. Instead it is in the middle of the old town, with shopping and restaurants all around.

A delightful small hotel and although the bathroom in our junior suite was on the small side, it was more than made up for by the original painted ceiling in the bedroom. This former palace has been restored to provide a tranquil retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city and less than a stone's throw from all the major attractions. A 2 euro bus ride from the airport puts you down a pleasant 10 minute stroll to the hotel in a back alley just off Pasieg Born at the bottom of which lies the stunning cathedral and royal palace. Pretty good buffet breakfast including pink fizz(cava, but nevertheless, fizz). Staff rather dour but turned out to be very helpful. Palma is a city not to be missed and full of surprise and delight.

Room Tip: probably a little quieter in rooms facing onto the courtyard

As other reviewers have pointed out, the hotel has a great location: it's an easy walk to the sights of the old city and is convenient to public transport (we came by bus from the airport). The lobby and courtyard are very nice, and a reasonable buffet breakfast is included. The rooms themselves are worn and lack simple amenities to make them more comfortable for travellers, like a rack for luggage. We stayed in a room open to the courtyard, which was very quiet.

October 2011: Just returned from a four-night stay at the Hotel Born. An old castle with great charm. About two blocks from the cathedral. Perfect location. Friendly staff. Would definitely stay here again. Decent continental breakfast (included in the price).
