“FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE, BEAUTIFUL HOTEL, CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK!”
Reviewed 6 May 2009

Have just spent 4 nights here with friends and cannot say how much we were all amazed at this hotel. We had junior suites and ours (Room 104 - very quiet, at least in April) was collosal. The room was an inner one overlooking a little back yard courtyard but we had nice shutters so that was no problem. We had TWO fourposter/canopy beds and there was room for more. The ante room was quite spacious with a settee, coffee table and wide screen TV. Our friends had junior suite Room 308 (not quite as big as ours but good) on the third floor which was a bit of a hike but a nice room actually overlooking the beautiful courtyard where I believe breakfast is eaten during the warmer months. The Staff were really helpful, the food at breakfast was superb, who wants bacon & eggs when the continental one is so varied and ample. The hotel was clean throughout although the carpets were a bit tired on the upper floors but we weren't there to look at carpets. The fact that this hotel is an old palace comes across very strongly when you look at the beautiful reception area and grand stair case. The hotel is situated in a narrow alley/road just off a main shopping area and boulevard with plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants. 5/8 minutes walk takes you down to the Cathedral and the waterfront so that is a bonus. Walk the other way for 15/15 minutes and you reach the railway stations including the station for the Soller train into the mountains - a trip you must do, it's a fantastic day out. The only downside is the fact there is no lift so anybody with mobility problems could find it difficult with the stairs but do stay here! It's well worth it. All of us can't wait to go back to this hotel and will certainly revisit some time in the future. Palma is actually a lovely city to stay in as opposed to the beach resorts if you like a bit of culture and sightseeing.

This hotel is in a great position - for walking, shopping, taking the bus to Ses Illetas beach, the train to Soller, etc.. We stayed for 4 nights last week and - although we were in Room 304, going out onto the alley - I can honestly say there were no problems with noise affecting our sleeping. The bathroom was spacious with constant hot water, breakfast very good, the staff pleasant and helpful, and we would certainly pay a repeat visit

I would recommend this hotel the building is truly stunning and we ate breakfast in the beautiful courtyard.

The downside was that we were in Room 103 and it really is very noisy - we barely slept for 2 nights.

Only book if you can be guaranteed a courtyard room.

We had a 3 night stay here in April. When we eventually found it (not due to poor directions but the massive Easter parade going down the street and through Palma!) we encountered helpful staff and a comfortable room. We paid a little extra for a courtyard view room following the advice on here, which was well worth the extra. Only two downsides to this place, firstly the walls really are that thin and if you have noisy neighbours like we did then it does detract from your stay slightly. The other was the mouldy fruit on the breakfast buffet on the first day! That said the breakfast was pretty decent for a small hotel, and the Born really is in a great location for getting around Palma without being on the busy, noisy main road through like a lot of the more expensive/chain hotels are. If I were planning on coming back to Palma I would happily stay there again!

We have stayed in this hotel twice now (last time in January 2004) and we have been pleased both times. The first time our room was over the alley and I did use earplugs after I was awoken early one morning. This time I requested a room over the courtyard and didn't need earplugs. The hotel is a lovely old Spanish mansion with central courtyard and it would be wrong to expect all mod cons (there is no lift or porter so you do have to carry your suitcases up yourself) but it does have old-world charm and is in an excellent location, in old Palma and all major sights are walkable. I did look at other options before booking again this time but this still remains excellent value for where it is and the fact that it does have character.

We have stayed happily enough in this hotel several times before, plenty of character, nice breakfast, reasonably priced, can tend to be a bit noisy with late arrivals, thin walls and floors etc. but ok on the whole. On this occasion we decided to try a more expensive room, known as a Junior Suite. We had room 103 and the noise from revellers in the neighbouring alley stopped us from sleeping both nights. Room 101 would have been just as bad. These rooms do not make satisfactory guest rooms - no chance of a good nights sleep if that's what you want. Disgraceful of the hotel to knowingly sell these rooms fully aware of the noise problem, we won’t be coming back.

Stayed for 4 nights in Hotel Born and thoroughly recommend it . The location is unbeatable. Right in the heart of the old city barely a few minutes walk to all the major sites. Hotel staff are pleasant and the breakfast is above average. The reception definetly has a 'wow' factor .

Only slight negative is if you have non courtyard room it can get slightly noisey at night .

Also if your looking for good place to eat ,over the main road , down the side of bar bosch is a typical Spanish taverna, Liverzza's. Cheap prices, excellent food and largo portions
