I completely agree with the “Excellent value” and “friendly place with great position” reviews. Except for the awful coffee ... but from the doorstep you can literally jump from coffeebar to coffeebar for half a mile.
Right outside: a lively bar/restaurant alley with jugglers in the street etc. - yesterday night I fell asleep with the sound of to men in a bar with guitars, singing lovely spanish songs with an enthusiastic audience. And then, around midnight, the whole street goes quiet. I slept well.
100 m to one side: the old, quiet working class neighbourhood, the "authentic" Palma. 100 m to the other side: one of the main streets with a view to harbour, cathedral and fancy shops, bus stop closeby, underground parking etc.
I travel to see something genuine, old, handmade, honest, personal, real. Usually I have to leave the hotel to find it ... but here you live in it.
And it's one of the cheapest places in central Palma. And run by real people.
"Shabby chic without the chic" said a photo caption - the view of a cynical consumer, not a traveller. To rephrase it, to me Ritzi is "shabby cosy"...
Compare to Hotel Born (one of few hotels described in my guide book): kind of the same idea, plus a load of money, technical quality, bathrooms etc. "Elegant, charming, historic" etc. Probably boring.
And more than double prices.
Sometimes the cheapest places are the cosiest...
