“A gem with sea views”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

This small hotel is in a superb location looking out to sea yet only a short easy walk to
Palma old town with all it's culture. All the staff were so friendly and helpful always but
Gave us great assistance as we arrived in the evening having lost a case on the flight.
They rang Palma airport the following day then continually tracked it until it arrived two
Days later and rejoiced with us when it arrived.
A very good breakfast is served on the roof terrace with its splendid views and two evenings
We enjoyed ample and tasty tapas on the covered terrace in front of the hotel.A gem of a
Place to stay in Palma.

We arrived early in the morning after a flight from Ibiza and took a taxi straight from the airport. It was a convenient location and only about a ten minute drive from the airport (18 euro taxi). The front desk was very helpful with our bags and since it was only 8:45 in the morning our room was not ready yet understandably so they kept our bags behind the front desk. They offered us a welcome coffee, but we decided to wait and have cava as our welcome drink later in the evening.

The room was ready around 11:45, and we were escorted to our room by the assistant manager, and our bags were already waiting in the room. We had a deluxe room. The room was very spacious and there was a very comfortable king bed. The bathroom was nice, and there was a shower with great water pressure and fantastic amenities. There were bathrobes and slippers and toothbrushes and all of the other expected ammenities of a five star hotel.

After a quick nap, we booked the spa room for an hour. As a guest at the hotel you get a complimentary hour a day at the spa. There was a sauna, jacuzzi, lounge chairs and a nice shower. It is private during your hour, so you can wander down in your bathrobe and relax without the bother or awkwardness of other people. This was a great feature!

There was a wonderful rooftop, and we had a complimentary welcome drink of cava. There was no bar up there, but we called the front desk and they brought us a glass when we were ready. This would be a great place to even bring your own bottle of wine and enjoy the sunset.

There was complimentary water in the fridge, and we drank it all since there were four small bottles and we were walking around a lot during the day. On our way back from some tapas and drinks we asked the front desk if we could have some more, and by the time we got back to the room housekeeping was there with four more bottles! Great service.

We hope we can return there again soon! Between the location and the quality of the room this place is great value.

We stayed for three nights in June 2014. The hotel is in a superb position and ideal for visiting the main attractions of Palma. It is in a quiet area in the old town. We were disappointed that our room was described as having a balcony and 'view of the old town'. In fact our room looked across to a relatively new and uninspiring building - there was no view of the old town and the balcony was a 'Juliet' balcony and therefore not one with table and chairs. The manager insisted that our room had a view - not the case. The room was spacious although the shower and toilet lacked privacy.
The manager and reception staff were efficient and welcoming. Unfortunately, as mentioned by a previous reviewer, this was not the case with the breakfast staff who were surly and made you feel a nuisance for being there.
The spa although well equipped was unpleasantly hot - the jacuzzi water temperature was unbelievable and the heated loungers were too hot to lie on even with a towel. We gave up in the end.
Having written these negative comments however, we would stay there again as long as we weren't paying full price. The positive points far outweigh the negatives so please don't be put off - keep your eye open for price reductions.

Room Tip: If you are paying for a 'view', make sure you actually get what you think you are paying for...

New hotel and decorated in style although a little over thought if I'm being fussy, with a lot of knick knacks around or maybe that's us. Good bed and great bathroom with good shower. Reception is really just a desk and that's it. The standard room had a very small window and had to turn the lights on even in the morning. Staff are charming and helpful but no restaurant at the hotel! I was very surprised to find out that they didn't have a restaurant. Wi Fi worked at night but never in the morning!?

We found this hotel on the Mr & Mrs Smith website, it was fabulous, we stayed in one of the three suites, which were very spacious, airy and beautifully presented. The staff could not have been more helpful, restaurant recommendations/bookings etc and their general demeanour. Only trouble with recommending it, is that others will discover and I may not be able to get in!!! A great location in the old town behind the Cathedral, which meant it was a very pleasant walk to the restaurants and shops in the evening. A stunning view from the breakfast terrace was a lovely surprise to wake up to.

We will be returning.

My husband and I stayed here at the end of April for just one night to celebrate our Silver Wedding Anniversary. We have family living in Llucmajor and therefore before we went on to stay with them, we wanted to have a night in a boutique hotel in Palma. We booked a suite and it was simply lovely. On arrival we were taken outside while the staff checked us in and took our luggage to our room we were offered a complimentary drink outside and the staff were extremely pleasant and attentive. They had put a bottle of Cava on ice in the room for us to celebrate with too! We had booked a restaurant that evening in Palma so we did not have the pleasure in eating in the hotel. We following morning we had breakfast on the roof terrace which was lovely, the breakfast staff were not quite as pleasant as the rest of the staff and not particularly helpful, but it didn't really matter as we were enjoying the sunshine and gorgeous views. We would definitely stay here again. The walk from the hotel to the centre of Palma takes you along by the cathedral and is just so beautiful. We actually picked up the number 1 bus from the airport and when we disembarked at Gabriel Alamor '39' we only had to walk a very little way to the hotel. Perfect!

We stayed at Hotel Calatrava for three nights. Our deluxe room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The hotel itself is lovely and a nice location. Not right in center and close to beach. The massages we had were some of the best we have had and having a private hour in spa each day was a nice touch!

Our only suggestion for the room would be to have some nicer amenities to match the rest of the quality of the room such as real glassware and bath mats. We also did not like the food at the restaurant, the flavor did not match how it looked or was described.
