Minorca is something of a second home for me during the last 30 years. We have Spanish friends with a home close to the Post Office in the town centre and their local knowledge has been invaluable over the years in obtaining the best bargains. Mahon itself boasts the second largest natural harbour in the world( the other is Pearl Harbour in Hawaii) hence the reason you will see huge cruise ships moored by the quay. The town itself has a plaza which hosts an excellent market on Saturdays and around this square are bars and restaurants. Narrow streets wind down to the harbour full of colourful shops and boutiques. This is the place to buy some good quality clothing which has a distinct designer feel. Cigarettes and alcohol are also much cheaper than those in the UK. Visiting the harbour during the day is an interesting and relaxing experience but in the evenings and at nights it really comes alive with numerous bars buzzing with customers. It's a great atmosphere. Also worth a visit is the nearby Es Castells and the little harbour of Cala Fons where you can dine alfresco at lovely little outdoor restaurants. This harbour is lit up at night and is very romantic.

“Car Hire Owners Club”

On arrival you are given 2 options with your petrol. Option 1 pay 101 Euros for a full tank or Option 2 pay 42 Euros and fill up yourself on return. Whilst we all know this is a rip off I chose option 2. We travelled approx 500km in 2 weeks and I filled up before returning the Peugeot 208 with 41 Euros, so you could say a saving of 18 Euros. So one would assume that if they do this for 1 week the saving would be greater.
Cost = 1.49 Euros per litre @ June 2014.

“Great for boat-spotting.”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

Plenty of different boats on display in what is quite a large harbour.

The port also has nice views looking up towards the centre of Mahon and the Govener's residence.

Plenty of interesting sights to see at the harbour; a must-do for those in Mahon.

“lovely port”

A must if your visiting Menorca. A bit of retail therapy, a coffee, a boat trip or just a lovely stroll. You won't be disappointed. Lovely port full of lovely people. Easy to spend a day there and there's plenty of history too if you like that type of thing.

Nice town in main tourist area - port offers market etc for visitors off the cruise ships which dock - plenty of shops from low to high end products.
