Waited a week to review the apartments as didn't want the experience of the last couple of days to cloud my judgment.

Had stayed at Maribel 20 years ago so knew the apartments at the main block were noisy. Therefore we asked for an apartment away from there. We were allocated Maribel 3, apt 7 which is in an excellent position across the (not busy) road from the sea. First floor so sea view from balcony/front bedroom and could even see Cala Santandria cove from the kitchen and rear bedroom.

Apartment very basic- two ring cooker, no oven just a microwave but plenty of room in the kitchen to prepare snacks etc and good size fridge with small freezer for ice creams. Bedrooms a decent size with reasonable hanging space. Aircon in lounge only, but using the fans in the bedrooms and leaving the bedroom doors open at night with the aircon on worked for us.

Whilst appearing clean on arrival, there was no cleaning throughout 2 week stay and bed linen was changed twice, towels 3/4 times. However we could not work out a system to this as it was not to any sort of pattern.

Also, having witnessed a 15 min clean by 3 cleaners, for an apartment changeover I would query how clean the apartments really are?

However for the money we paid for two weeks in school holidays we would have been perfectly happy with the apartment (having bought some detergent ourselves) had it not been for the party of 7 20-something Spanish boys put in the apartment next to us 2 days before we left. A complaint to reception initially fell on deaf ears (the male receptionist often showed selective deafness if something was wrong) until we spoke to the manager.

Whilst the manager did arrange for the boys to be warned about their behaviour the fact remains that this is a family complex and to place them there was inappropriate (both for them and the families there).

Only ate once in the restaurant (lunch on the first day). Thought it was expensive for the quality and after that visited a couple of times for drinks but service was poor and saw a few people given the wrong meals.

Blancala apartments, across from Maribel 3, had excellent food and was very reasonably priced with fantastic sunsets most evenings. Looked like a standard apartment cafe/restaurant but paella, suckling pig and tapas were all excellent.

The supermarket just along from there was also well stocked for essentials but we had a car and went to diskont hipermercado five minutes away for the main shop.

We really enjoyed our holiday despite the need for the apartments to be updated, it could be an excellent base - if only they would sort out their booking policy!

Room Tip: Ask for Maribel 3.

We have stayed here before but had a villa last time, which was amazing! That was the only reason we booked here because we knew what the resort was like and it came in very cheap for a holiday during school holidays.

Apartment:
Basic but everything you needed! Including freezer, iron and ironing board! So take a soft ice bag and ice packs for the beach! (Wish we thought of this!) Towels changed 3 times a week and plenty of them. Generally very clean. However, the toilet is slap bang in the middle of the apartment, next to the kitchen.... With no window or extractor fan- I won't say anymore.......... The apartments are located either above or along side the restaurants and bars, so if you want to get an early night it's very doubtful! But we did not mind as we were usually in the bars with the kids until gone 2300 anyway!

Service:
When we arrived we got no pack up! Handed a key five doors from our room and told "like room 7 but number 2 on other side". The key fob had 2-3 on it and and after spending five minutes guessing what he meant we eventually got there! All other arrivals got big pack ups with excursion info and hotel info on etc etc... Not sure what happened to ours. On the evening of day 2 I asked for wine glasses for the room and was told they would be there ASAP, but standard Spanish ASAP means 36 hours later.... Which I completely expect when in a Spanish resort! Service in the hotel restaurant and bar was very good! Very friendly staff and did not seem to expect tips etc and very grateful to receive the odd 1-3 euro tip in the bar.

Pool area:
Lots of loungers and no need to reserve if out there before 1300! Which is amazing during school holidays! The pool, restaurant and bar area which is all the same area is allowed to be used by anyone if a drink is bought! So lots of locals and groups of kids coming for one drink and using the pool, which did not bother me really but other holiday makers it might after spending a small fortune compared to half of coke! Local children having birthday parties in the play area also seemed a little odd but again, I was fine with it! Lovely clean pool but longer area and tables could do with a clean. The same bunch of screwed up plasters there all week!!!!

Food and drink:
Expensive but good! Local Estrella was 3€ a pint. Which is acceptable but you expect a little cheaper when at a Spanish resort. G+T 4.50€ which is expensive for even local brand stuff! Understandable if it was really strong but it was probably just over a double UK measure. Eating in all the restaurants in the area were around the same price with an evening meal consisting of 3 kids meals, 2 adults, 3 kids drinks and a bottle of wine would be around 60-80€..... We spent a fortune on this week holiday and probably expected to pay half! But spending €50 every lunch did not help! So make the most of kitchen in apartment to save money!

Overall:
Great holiday had by all and sad to be home :( however, spent a tonne more than we hoped and more Spanish in resort than English- which is fine but not many other kids to play with for my lot so they eventually got fed up with each other!

Would come to Menorca again but not this resort.... Cala En Blanes and Cala En Forcat has a lot more going on for my active kiddies where here there is next to nothing!

There are 3 separate parts to Maribel. The main one has the reception, bar and restaurant and evening entertainment. If you want all of that then this is the place to stay. Apart from checking in and being in the shop and using the ATM we didn't go in there.
We were in Maribel 3 and it was fabulous. It is a separate complex of 8 apartments, I think they are all 2 bedrooms with a pool. They are really quiet and we often had the pool to ourselves or shared it with 1 or 2 other families. The apartments were very spacious with a large living room and open plan kitchen. They were clean and bright and the maids very round every few days to change the towels. About 50 meters away there is a restaurant, part of another hotel, a cafe snack bar and shop. In the opposite direction walking along the sea front for about 500 meters is the main pedestrian area of Cala Blanca, where the main maribel complex is. There are another 2 mini supermarkets, 3 or 4 restaurants, 3 or 4 cafés and a couple of bars. Further on towards the beach there are another 3 or 4 restaurants There is a shop about 50 meters away and a snack.
If you want a quiet peaceful holiday ask for maribel 3. If you want a sea view ask for an upstairs apartment as they all have sea views.
Maribel 3 has a very small children's play area. Suitable for toddlers and a very shallow separate pool. Be aware the main pool is about four feet deep in the shallow end and gets deep very quickly.
We had a great time and would go back to maribel 3 in a minute.

Not a bad place to rest your head - if that's all you're looking for. Tatty looking complex of apartments, bars and restaurants. We had a good size apartment with a kitchen on the ground floor. The shower went cold after one use so we had to alternate our showers each morning/night. The staff at the front desk just shrugged when we complained and said it was because the boiler was small. They weren't very friendly in general - on arrival the guy on reception walked us to our apartment, opened the door and then walked off without speaking or giving us any information about the place! They didn't give us the wifi password, we had to ask for it. Had to ask where to leave rubbish, what time the pool closed, etc. They could do with putting all handy info in a leaflet or something.

Impossible to sleep with windows open due to the noise from local bars. Air con was ineffective as the unit was in the living room so useless trying to cool ourselves for sleeping.

I sound like I hated the place - I really didn't! Menorca is a very pretty island and we had a fab time exploring the beaches, prehistoric ruins, etc etc. With hindsight I'd probably been less stingy and gone for a more upmarket hotel or apartment.

I'd recommend asking specifically for an upstairs apartment - you get a private balcony.

just returned from these apartments. cant wait to go back, everything was perfect. the staff on reception were very friendly, especially Tony. We were put in a 2 bed apartment in Maribel III, wonderfully quiet, nearly able to step out of bed into the pool. Towels changed every other day, still near all the amenities. Would rather stay here than the main complex as that was more for families. I have one 'moan, where we stayed there were only 8 apartments & not all of them were used. The ones that were used were mainly spanish people, usually a young couple. it was very friendly etc, but on our last couple of days they filled 2 of the apartments with groups of young spanish girls. there were 5 girls in each apartment, one of them directly above us and the other to the right of us. the whole atmosphere changed as they were quite noisy. At night when i was in bed i could hear them constantly walking around. I think they would have been better staying in the main complex.
