“Welcome back - again and again and again and....”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2013

WeI last reviewed this hotel over two years ago and said that we would probably be back as weI enjoyed it so much - well, we did return last year but never found the time to write a review. We were due to travel here in June, but sadly my Mother passed away the day before we were due to fly out, so we postponed the visit until the end of September.
I have to say that if you are looking for a holiday that is a bit lively, then go away and look elsewhere. In fact Cala n' Bosch down the road from this place is ideal for you as it's one step away from the " Kiss Me Quick" hats brigade. Santandria Playa has none of this.
We were once again warmly welcomed back by Tony and Gabriel and given room 207, which has a fairly large terrace - large enough to get two tables and chairs AND two sunbeds with a large sun umbrella. The room itself is of a good size with ceiling fan and excellent air con. The ample sized bathroom has a superb and very refreshing shower along with the usual continental bathroom furnishings. The beds were huge and superbly comfortable. Fairly large flat screen TV has three English channels, BBC1, BBC2and ITV2. There is limited WiFi in the reception area only.
Not a lot has changed since our last visit in the hotel, 47 rooms, superb personal service from Gabriel, his brother Raoul, and Tony and a "nothing is any trouble" attitude which is particularly refreshing. Breakfast, serve yourself buffet style is extremely good despite the wait for the now slightly aged coffee machine, although a kettle has been installed for those who just want tea. Food ranges from the traditional "English" cooked breakfast with cereals, to varying breads, toast, fruit, pastries and croisants etc. all superbly presented and served.
The location of the Hotel is so pleasant, and every room has some sort of sea view, which is basically a small beach and sea inlet which has no distinct waves or tidal pattern. It is very shallow sloping and very safe for bathing of all ages. A couple of restaurants, shops and a bus stop is about all you get - perfect for doing NOTHING. This place is so relaxing. If you do want to travel further, hire a car - from reception, walk up the not too steep hill and catch the bus, or walk. Better still, just lie on the beach, soak up the sun and drift away into your own world of dreams.
Evening meals are served either in the restaurant room (1st floor), or on the decking on the beach. A lot of the meals on the menu are lost in translation, and are quite amusing when you find out what they actually consist of - Scrambled spinach for example turned out to be a delightful starter of fruit and nut salad on a bed of wilted spinach leaves and a drizzling of a very fine vinigrette. "Custard" was, well we think it was a cross between something like angel delight and yoghurt!!! Whatever it was, it was lovely. In fact the guests menu (half board) was of three courses with a choice of three meals for each course, superbly presented and equally superbly cooked. Portions were very adequate but not huge I'm 17 stone and they filled me up.
All in all, this place is a little gem - don't expect the earth though, it is what it is, extremely well run, extremely helpful staff who seem to be on hand 24/7, and extremely clean.
We know we will be back next year, and the next, and the next, and...

Room Tip: Rooms with a sea view can be bought at an extra price - don't bother because all rooms have a se...

This was our fourth visit back here so tells a story I guess.
We choose here to get away and recharge our batteries, and that is what happens.
This small, but very well-run hotel has a charm of its own. The staff are extremely engaging and helpful and the place is spotlessly clean.Yes it is not ultra-modern or full of facilities (that you mostly never use!), but if you want top spot, good food, good service, this ticks the boxes.
Of course the real winner is down to the location and the views. It is picture-postcard perfect, with a great vista and great sunsets. The beach is still clean, shallow and calm and great for a dip. So if you like sitting on a nice balcony, having a read and chiling out, this is for you!
There is a fairly small selection of bars and restaurants in the locality, but if you want more variation, fully recommend that you go into Cuitadella by day and by night which takes on a different feel at different times, but both are great; by day relax by the harbour and walk around the old city walls, sit in one of the main squares for a coffee and cake. By night admire the old historic charm, walk around the old streets sampling some top tapas bars and restaurants.
The driving on the island is easy, roads are in very good condition.
So all in all, another top trip and we'll be back next year!

Room Tip: Pick a sea-view room upgrade. Best tip, contact hotel direct and secure a deal through the manager

We chose this hotel because of it's location and size (we prefer small hotels), but also because it had tremendous reviews overall on Tripadvisor.
Have just returned from a wonderful week there - the hotel was perfect for us in every way; comfortable, relaxed, quiet, and in a superb spot right on the beach of a quiet little cove.
Staff, led by Gabriel, were friendly, polite and attentive, food was excellent, rooms clean and spacious.
All bedrooms have sea views, though some are better than others - we were offered an upgrade, but were more than happy with the room we had.
First floor dining room has wonderful views, made very special for us with some spectacular sunrises and sunsets. Comfortable beach bar below serves food and drink all day. Pool is small and quiet (behind hotel and up on 2nd floor). Because of it's position it doesn't get the sun for too long, but is great for cooling off and just relaxing for an hour or so.
Some great walks to other little nearby coves, and only about a 40/45 minute walk along the coast to the beautiful old capital, Ciutadella.
Taxis cheap, buses cheaper (and regular).
Will definitely visit again and hire a car to visit some of the many unspoilt beaches that the buses don't run to.
Fabulous island, fabulous hotel, and a truly memorable holiday.

Room Tip: All rooms have full or nearly full sea views. Some have balconies big enough for parasol and sun lou...

This hotel is in a perfect position on a lovely sandy beach in a beautiful cove on the west side of Menorca. This was our first holiday in Menorca and we couldn't have chosen a better hotel, we had a set of rooms during the first week with an enormous balcony complete with our own sunbeds and a large table and chairs on the first floor overlooking the beach which was excellent. On our second week we asked if it was possible to have a look at the upgraded sea view rooms if there was one vacant just out of curiosity, Tony the receptionist was very obliging and took us to the 6th floor, the view was stunning and the sunsets from up there were too! so we spent our second week on the top floor, it was heavenly and well worth paying the extra for. The hotel itself is well run, the manager Gabriel works hands on and is probably the hardest working manager I've ever come across, nothing is too much trouble for him, he is so lovely. We had half board, the menu was 3 courses with something different each night, the food is excellent and the restaurant overlooks the cove, beneath the dining room there is a beach bar which also has an excellent selection of snacks and meals. The hotel is kept spotlessly clean, the poor cleaning ladies have such a hard time with the amount of sand brought in from the beach, the rooms and all the floors and stairs are washed every day. The rooms have air conditioning which is free and quiet, there is a safe in the room too at a cost of 2 euros a day, no kettle in the rooms to make a cup of tea or coffee but we did take a travel kettle, also there is no hairdryer, again I took my own. There is a bus stop at the top of the road to get to Ciutadella or it is about 40 mins walk and well worth a visit. If you just want to stay around the cove it is well worth buying a snorkel, the water is crystal clear and there are some lovely fish to see around the rocks. There is also a diving school next to the hotel where you can have taster sessions if you are more adventurous! This is an idyllic place and we will come here again, it is so relaxing and quirky too, the hotel is built partially into the rocks, the whole of the reception area is in a cave, absolutely fantastic! love it.

Room Tip: Well worth upgrading to the sea view rooms, the view down the cove is breathtaking and the sunsets a...

You could not get closer to the beach, the hotel I understand was built in the 60's and I don't think much has changed. If you are looking for modern this is not for you. Although the furniture is a little tired, the rooms are clean and inviting.
The beach is small and can get very busy when the sun shines, if you want a sun bed be prepared to pay 15 euros a day for 2 and an umbrella. The hotel keeps mats and umbrellas that people have left behind so if you are happy to lay on the sand you can save some money.
The hotel is managed by Gabrielle and his brother Paul who will do anything to keep their customers happy and work really hard.
The food is ok here too and half board booked with the holiday was just £7 per night. If you wait and pay at the hotel the same nightly menu is 14.5 euros.
Try the bar across the sand from the hotel, drinks and food are good value.

For a totally idyllic holiday, first take a pale golden beach, then add the clear blue sea, and wonderful sunshine. Sounds good? Well, add in this hotel, situated right on the beach, in a quiet, peaceful Menorcan cove, and that holiday becomes just perfect! The hotel is small, just 41 rooms, ours was a beach-facing room (we paid a 10 euro per night supplement), a bright airy room, spotlessly clean, spacious and comfortable. The bathroom had everything we needed, plenty of towels, changed daily. The bed was king size, very comfortable, and the view from the balcony was just wonderful. We had taken the half board option and found the food to be excellent, three choices for each of the three courses each evening. We had thought of eating out occasionally at the local restaurants but found the food so good that we soon changed that plan. Breakfast was buffet style, plenty of choice, hot and cold, with the buffet being replenished frequently.

So, apart from the perfect location (including the resident ducks on the beach), the sunshine, the good food, what makes this hotel special? Most definitely, it is the General Manager, Gabriel, and his amazingly hard working team. There is only a small team but they all work tirelessly to make sure that their guests have everything they need. Absolutely nothing is too much trouble. If there is nothing you fancy on the menu, they will offer you something else; if you have an early start, you can have breakfast early; if you need anything at all, you just have to ask and they will do their best to help. On our second day, we were out in Ciutadella and were studying the map to find where we needed to go; we were spotted by Gabriel, not actually having met him up to that point, and he approached us and helped us find what we were looking for. This, we later realised, was typical of the man, the kindest, most thoughtful, hard-working hotelier we have ever had the pleasure to meet. His attitude and hard work (he not only runs the hotel, but can be seen clearing tables at breakfast and serving at the bar late into the evening) rubs off on all of his staff and it is an absolute pleasure to have been one of their guests.

If you want clubs and discos, then this is not for you as there are none. However, if you want a peaceful, relaxing holiday, where you are made to feel welcome and special from the moment you arrive, then this is just perfect!
