Our fourth visit to this wonderful establishment revealed little surprises other than there is now free wifi in every room. In fact, the hotel wifi could even be picked up on the beach outside. Full marks for this. On the other hand though, I have to report that the TV service has been changed and is not very satisfactory to us Brits who like to follow their favourite progs whilst on holiday. There are four English speaking channels available, BBC News, Sky News, CNN and a part English part Spanish Discovery Max. Fine if like to see the same news progs broadcast time and time again, or are into US produced documentaries. However, given the ratio of Spanish and German channels available in relation to the number of British visitors I would urge Gabriel to get at least BBC 1 and ITV for those who like to see some telly on their hols.
Other than that, the place is absolutely superb. Clean, linen and towels changed with superb regularity and a view to die for from every room, especially the sunsets. The food is superbly cooked and presented even if the menus still need interpretation...Nordic Frost Cake is in fact Vienetta...The staff are wonderfully friendly and have a we can do anything attitude. Headed by Gabriel the manager who welcomes you like a long lost relative and never seems to sleep, Tony, who handles the reception and admin duties, Raoul who, with a brilliant sense of humour serves you your meals and is also ever present, and Magda, who cooks the most delightful food you could ever wish for.
Travel around the hotel area is easy with some very pleasant and easy strolls into Cala Blanca and Sa Caletta, even the walk to Ciutadella is not overtaxing. There are two local supermarkets within a few hundred yards. In fact everything I've said in previous reviews still applies.
Local buses are cheap, reliable and very frequent. Two new services now pass the road at the top of the hotel and as a tip, to get the bus into Ciutadella, walk up the road against the one way system to the half built Cabana Restaurant, cross over to the bus stop on the other side of the road where there are more buses than at the stop by the Andria complex.
Don't get conned into Thomson trips either, the fare to Ciutadella is 3 euros one way. From Ciutadella to Mahon is 5.10 euros one way, which is incredibly cheap for a very pleasant journey of just on an hour, you get to see a lot of the island as well.
We met some lovely people on our trip, special mention to Barbara, who has written a review, John and Jenny, the ladies who tiptoed throughout the hotel and Dale and his wife. Sorry if I have missed any out.
Overall, this is a superb place to stay, it's not your five star palace, it doesn't have uniformed maître d type waiting staff. What it does have is a very small and friendly attitude where if you ask you will get prevails. A great base for either lying on the beach, frying pan above the restaurant, or by the pool sunbathing, going for gentle walks or exploring the island and everything it has to offer. If you like quiet and peaceful, then this is the place for you. Highly recommended.
