We spent two weeks at Cales de Ponent at the end of July/beginning of August, and had a wonderful time. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and it was great to enjoy the benefits of all inclusive along with the advantages of apartment-style accommodation. We never found the lack of air conditioning a particular problem - there was a powerful ceiling fan in the main bedroom, and the reception provided a smaller fan for our children's room, free of charge.

It was our first experience of all inclusive, and we were really pleased with what we found. The range of food might not be as large as a bigger resort, but there was always plenty of choice, and it was always prepared and presented to a high standard. The chef was proud of his food, and made you feel very welcome. In many ways, the staff are one of the best features of the hotel - bar staff, reception staff and waitresses all went out of their way to be friendly, warm and helpful. Tamara made a real fuss of our children, and we were sad to say goodbye on the last day!

The pool area could get a little busy, particularly towards tea time, but it was always possible to find a sun lounger. For a change, the beach is a very short walk away. It's a very pretty spot, and has more facilities than Caleta to the north, while being quieter than Cala Blanca to the south. Both of these other beaches are in walking distance.

Cala Santandria is very well located for Ciutadella - about 10 minutes by bus from the bus stop at the end of the road - and it's well worth a visit. It's a lovely, bustling town, with some very picturesque back streets, great for exploring. We also visited the Aqua Rock water park outside Cala'n Bosch - this is a fun day out, and is much easier to get to than the Aqua Center park in Delfines which is more widely advertised. A bus from the main road will take you to Cala'n Bosch in about 15 minutes - the reception staff can provide directions.

All in all, a lovely holiday, and we'd be very happy to return!

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms away from the pool have large patios, and are quieter in the day time

We stayed here as a group of five in two different apartments. Plenty of room and recently decorated. The only reason that I would not stay here again is the fact there is no air conditioning in the rooms. Did open windows but was very humid and we all got bitten by mossies!! There is no having to rush to get sunbeds in the morning as there were plenty and people did not try to reserve. Great place to stay with young children as all nationalities mixed together and had a great time. We had a teenager with us and it was a bit too quiet for her and she would not want to go back. Plenty of choice of food, drinks and excellent service from staff (especially Tamara in the restaurant). Two minute walk to local beach and couple of restaurants. We hired a car to visit different places, beaches during day and night.

We're just back from a lovely 2 week break at Club Cales de Ponent and we can honestly say it's been the most relaxing holiday that we've ever been on. We chose the hotel as it didn't look too big and also for it's location... 100 yds from the beach. The rooms, we had a 2 bed apartment, are basic but clean (cleaners in every other day). Only criticism is that they could do with air con in them (only the main bedroom had a ceiling fan). The bar and restaurant are very light, modern and again, spotless. The pool area was big enough for the complex with plenty of sun beds available. However, as good as the facilities are it's the STAFF that make the place. Special mention to Ramon in the bar and Sergei on reception. Sergei always had a smile for everyone and if you like your Sangria then Ramon is the man to make it , proper stuff made from scratch and NOT out of a carton and mixed with lemonade like most of the restaurants! Pomada's and Mojito's are also highly recommended.
Cala Blanca is only a short walk away for a selection of restaurants and Ciutadella is only a short bus or taxi ride away for an even greater selection plus shopping. Having said that there a few very good restaurants within a stones throw of the hotel, Sa Nacra and Bahia especially for the fish. We tried the hotels restaurant on a couple of occasions and found it good value at 16 euros each and that was with drinks included.
The beach at Santandria although small was never really that crowded. It's set in a lovely sheltered cove and is great for swimming and snorkeling. Pedalos are available for hire, though there are only 2 of them, again good value at 12 euro an hour. Sa Caleta beach is an easy walk away and there's a good cliff top walk to Cala Blanca in the other direction.
Highly recommended.

We have just spent a week at Cales De Ponent and we were impressed. The staff are extremely friendly, the apartment although basic was clean and plenty of room. The pool was refreshing and there was always space (considering it is high season). Lots of children in inflatables but there is a reason for this - the pool is very deep at one end so having an inflatable is the only way to enjoy that end. There was still plenty of room though and it was lovely for the children to be able to play and make friends. There was a definite sense of community and my children made some great friends. It was lovely that the resort was quiet because it meant time for family games (as there was no TV channels as such) so we played cards and outdoor games which was a lovely opportunity to bond away from technology. The food was great although I would say the better time to eat with the children was the lunch time slot. All in all a fantastic week so a big thank you to all the staff and management. Glad we chose to spend our holiday of the year with you.

Just got back from a 2 week stay at this lovely hotel. Its situated a couple of minutes walk from the beach Santandria and about 10 minutes walk to Cala Blanca beach going left down the coast and also about 10 minutes walk to Sa Caleta beach going the opposite direction.

The buses run regularly from the top of the road, charges 1.90Euros which will also take you to Cala Blanca or Cuitadella (no 64) or direct to Platja de Son Xoriguer beach (no 67). We often got taxis into Cuitadella which costs between 5 to 7 euros. We telephoned the taxis ourselves, a very prompt service and most drivers speak very good English. If reception order the taxi, you get another euro added to your fare. The taxi rank is in the centre of Cuitadella and there was always taxis waiting when we wanted to return back to the hotel. So all very straight forward.

Cales de Ponent is a fabulous hotel and all of the staff go out of their way to make your stay a very special one. Nothing is too much trouble for them. They certainly exceeded my expectations of any other hotel staff I have come across. Two of the staff I would like to mention are Tamara and Ramon. Their were 13 of us in our party ranging from 8 to 72 years of age. From the first day they reserved a table in the restaurant to enable us all to be able to sit together for the duration of our stay. We went on two excursions where we did not eat our lunch at the hotel, but the staff made us up a lovely picnic to take on our days out. With plenty of sandwiches, water, fruit, choc biscuit and nuts.

Ramon worked behind the bar in the evenings, he was always attentive to our needs, bringing us over drinks when we had finished, remembering what we all were drinking, and certainly kept the children entertained when they went up to get their drinks.

The apartments had everything you needed and were spotlessly clean. The only downside was no air conditioning, only a ceiling fan in main bedroom. You can hire fans from reception, but we seemed to make do by opening the doors and keeping the shutters locked during the night.

The pool area was also spotlessly clean and no rushing up to get a sunbed in the morning, there were always beds available no matter what time of day you got there. The pool does not open until 9am and any towels left before that time DO get removed.

The maids came in every two days to clean the room and replace the towels and change bedding once a week.

Overall I could not find anything to be negative about this hotel. We have had an amazing two weeks here and definitely would recommend to friends and would return again ourselves.

A basic hotel, we liked the 2 bedrooms which is especially good for larger families. Staff lovely and helpful, quiet at night, Friday night they have a band which finishes by 11.30pm. Resort very quiet by midnight good for young families and friendly we allowed our older children to run around in the evening and play with the other kids. Food great , good variety. Down side evening meal buffet starts at 8pm far too late for small children we ate next door at Sa Quada steak house the restaurant was in a natural cave the food good lots of variety for kids and very good value. We ate breakfast at the hotel, be prepared for the coffee machine there is only one that produces decent coffee and you have to queue for ages.
Apartments are a bit tired our fan looked as if it was about to fall off the ceiling we were too scared to use it but luckily had brought a portable one. Balconies are all open and our apartment opened on to the 2m bit of swimming pool so need to big careful with toddlers. We did snorkelling and children collected shrimps and crabs at the beach. Also day trips to Ciutadella where it was easy to catch a bus to the lovely unspoilt beaches of Cala Turquetta and Son Suara. We had a great time.

Room Tip: older kids- pool view ground floor, younger kids rooms away from pool. Ground floor seem better

Just got back from a lovely holiday and must say it was just great. The place is beautiful, staff are the best I have ever met and the accommodation was spotless and very adequate!
So let me tell you the best bits: the place us so beautiful and the accommodation is a small complex so you are not lost in crowds and can always find a sun bed and swim. The food is of a good variety, very fresh and tasty. They do have a lot of pork and fish but we never found ourselves hungry! The people are warm and welcoming and the staff go above and beyond to make you happy. The apartments are spotless with everything you could need and the one we had was very spacious. As it's a family place it attracts mainly people with families and there is a good sense of community amongst guests. I don't know where the lady has been holidaying before who said it was noisy and rowdy! The pool does get a bit loud during the day but in peak season it's bound to have a certain amount of noise, it was never an unacceptable level (no shouting or screaming, only children playing and having fun). Of a night people did sit by the pool and talk and some of the families children would play but again it wasn't an unacceptable amount of noise, no screaming, shouting or bad language EVER! No one was ever rude, horrid or anything bad. Infact German, Italian, Spanish and English all sat talking and laughing together. I guess if you want it very quiet and don't want to hear children having fun go elsewhere or avoid peak season when the kids are off!
What's not so good? Well I think it was rather hot and the rooms don't have aircon. We had ceiling fans that were a bit noisy but that's not really much of a bad thing to complain about, we managed just fine. Also my husband did get a bit bored at times, he likes to explore and apart from beautiful beaches and the pool ( and a good book!) there isn't much to do. They only have entertainment on a Friday night to, although we found we talked more to other residents and that was nice enough. Also the bar shuts at 10pm, which some might complain about but we thought was fine as most people have young children and are off to bed around then anyway (stops it attracting rowdy people !)
