Stayed in May 2014 not 5 star treatment; poor atmosphere; worn/stained carpets;swimming pool not in use for 4 day so the sundeck & presumably the spa was closed - poor information about local visits - we had to go to another hotel to get better information;faulty doors to lift which we mentioned and staff did nothing; no tea/coffee making in room; no minibar - only water in fridge for which we were charged; no chairs on balcony; bfast good; beach close by; no staff in hotel restaurant at 8pm! We've stayed at the REINA ISABEL further down the beach and it is MUCH BETTER in my opinion!

Room Tip: Rooms looking onto sea had chairs on balcony;

We visited Las Palmas at the end of May 2014. The visit was whilst we were in the south of the island as a treat for my partners birthday.

The hotel is located right on the promenade of the Las Canteras beach and centrally positioned in the bay to give you outstanding views across the water and towards Tenerife. To be honest the location is everything with this hotel. If you're staying here why would you stay in a city facing room, the whole point of the stay is to be by the beach and bay after all. The City views wouldn't be an option, if this is what you want and can't afford the extra expense for sea view, I strongly suggest a hotel further back and cheaper!

The hotel is to be expected, a Spanish chain hotel but it isn't 5 star for UK or USA guests, put it like this it's not the Ritz as some guests obviously thought it would be. If you take a look at the hotel facilities, these are excellent with mud baths, Turkish Sauna, Massage, Thermal therapy pools etc. The staff are very obliging and polite with a friendly smile for all guests and the service is quick and efficient.

The hotel is in need of a make over to bring it to the present day. The decor is a little faded and in need of an uplift, however, very clean and well presented with plenty of space and comfortable. The rooms are spacious to the front with open balconies facing the bay. We stayed on the 3rd floor and this was a great view. The hotel overlooks the promenade which does get busy but not at all noisy and lovely for a stroll by sunset. The rooms have flat screen TV with mainly Spanish programmes except a couple English news channels and German/ French/ Swiss channels. The beds are very comfortable with pristine white sheets and plenty of luggage space and clothes storage. The bathroom is in need of an update, a little dated and unloved! My only main critsism was the dirty windows which needed a thorough clean. However go onto the balcony and the views are to die for.

Breakfast is the usual Spanish breakfast buffet. The cater for all tastes and cultures with fried breakfast available, cereals, fresh fruit buffet, verious meats and cheeses and a wide choice of teas and coffees. Very nice food, well presented and well chilled. (Absolutely necessary above all in this climate!). Don't expect Caviar, do expect clean and healthy food, polite unhurried staff and a nice view of the bay.

The outdoor pool is not heated but you are in the Canary Islands. These are Semi-Tropical islands, so what do you expect. I wouldn't want a warm pool after all, most of the time you want to cool down. And be it said the pool looks lovely, why bother when you have a whole bay of beautiful white sand in front of you and turquoise/blue waters. ??!!

Entertainment, dining and bars etc are excellent along the promenade but not cheap. Expect London prices by the sea front, although alcohol is cheaper. Recommend the 'Las Olivias' restaurant for great food in the evening at top of bay. Great menu even for a strict vegetarian like me ... and that's saying something, especially in Spain. Visit the 'Mumbai Sunset' bar at the lower end of the bay (close to festival hall) for great cocktails, very friendly staff and a great view of the surf.

Overall very good hotel but don't expect 5 star as in the UK. This is a Spanish chain hotel and is typical whether you are in Barcelona or in Las Palmas. We had a lovely stay and the sunset in the evening was worth every pound/euro spent. Pick a good sea view room.

Room Tip: Rooms with Sea view only - Don't consider a city view room, there's really no point. Breakfa...

To be honest: This is not a five star hotel. Maybe three star but nothing more.
The hotel have great location exactly at the beach and quite close the city.
The breakfast as okay but i would have wish for more and it have a strange system when it comes to te, coffe and milk.
The pool is not warmed up so it can be cold swiming there,
The hotel feels old and should need a renovation. The hotel lobby is boring and totally empty.
The cleaning is not good. We brough in sand on sunday after being at the beach and the sand was still on the floor and in the bed when we left on wedensday.
It have a refrigerator that you can fill up with what ever you want.(no minibar) they also give you free bottle of water but not every day.

Room Tip: if you can not get a room against the beach ask for the room as high s possible so you can look over...

Stayed here for 4 days at the end of November. We had an older style room which overlooked the city side. Although the decor wasnt to my taste (being a little old fashioned) the room was clean and the beds comfortable and giant! I was on the 5th floor so did not have any problems with traffic noise at all.

The location of this hotel is excellent, right on the beach and situated on a strip of restaurants/shops. Would be ideal if you wernt a big walker but wanted to enjoy the local area. With a few minutes walking you could get to a large shoping mall and a lovely park. The beach itself was lovely and clean. All the local restaurants next to the hotel that I tried were good value and good quality.

The pool area was also excellent - modern and relaxing, lots of loungers and a fantastic view over the beach. There was always a pool attendant to give you towels also. The pool itself was freezing (but it was November!) and so I spent most of my time sitting on the sofas (which are undercover) and admiring the view.

I ate lunch twice in the hotel and the food was good - they have good local dishes on the menu. The standout feature of this hotel however is the breakfast - an absolutely huge selection of foods on offer, everything from a variety of fresh fruits, cheeses, breads, cereals, yoghurts, juices, pastries and cooked items. Really could not fault it at all - if you stayed a week you could not try everything on offer. Yes the breakfast room has a canteen style to it but the quality of the foods is excellent and the fact you help yourself means you can spend as long as you want sampling all the different breakfast options. They also have good coffee machines with a selection of different types. You do have to hunt a little bit for the tea bags - but they are there!

All the staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful. For the Price paid I would recommend this to to others if you want a cheapish sunny break in an excellent location. The lifts were a little slow though so at busy times expect to wait a little bit. The decor could do with a bit of updating in places but it was very clean - just not brand new. One last thing - dont forget a travel kettle as there are no tea/coffee facilities in the room.

Room Tip: If you book a city facing room - get one on a higher floor to avoid traffic noise.

Nothing special - but great location. We had a refurbished room, airy and looked nice but the sofa (fake leather) was disintegrating and leaving black bits everywhere. Another month or so and this will need putting in the skip. Balcony needed shade/parasol and somewhere to hang beachwear. Good choice of food at breakfast but hot food never reached actual hot. Good bathroom but needs more towel rails. Ill-stocked minibar, but plenty of shops nearby to stock up with wine. Good tv, good wifi in room. Little or no interaction with the staff, which is just fine by me.... (To the person that couldn't find reception, it's the big reception desk shaped thing in the reception area. Just trying to help.)
So overall, perfectly adequate, great location, but could try harder.

Room Tip: Go of refurbed sea view room.

My daughter and I and her three grown children spent last week in the Cristina. As she is a busy lady she booked the accommodation without much ado. When she had time to read some of the tripadvisor reviews we were somewhat concerned! We need not have worried as, in the main, it was a grand hotel with 10 Floors. We had two rooms (a) 902 on the 9th Floor and (b) 501 on the 5th. 902 had a good balcony and was, in fact, like two rooms with an interconnecting door and the main room had an enormous comfortable bed, c.7 ft. The smaller room had a Double-type Sofa Bed. There was a Port View from the main room and mostly Sea View/Mountain from the smaller room. (That part of the port was not busy/noisy - just some boats berthed and an odd overnight Cruise Liner.) We could see the small sailing boats further down doing their thing. The bathroom and separate toilet were the usual good hotel standard. Room 501 (Single) was beautiful, colour co-ordinated and very comfortable also, with a nice Double bed. There was no balcony here and the view was of buildings. To be honest, we hadn't gone there to do our sight-seeing from the bedrooms, but the lights were quite nice at night. The Wifi in general was a bit temperamental in the rooms, but always good down at Reception. The TV was fine in each room and there was also a large flat screen TV in the Reception Area, comfortable armchairs, bar facilities and snacks available there too. At that time there was perfect coverage of the Winter Olympics and Football Matches.

Breakfast is buffet-style, which I do not like very much, but readily appreciate that it is probably the best way to deal with large numbers in limited time. Almost every possible breakfast food was available there and in good supply; the coffee from the machines was good and as my daughter is a bit of a connoisseur in this area, it was never necessary to ask for a separate pot to be brewed specially. Nor did we order an Omelet. Personal tastes differ enormously and, for example, I would have preferred the bacon to be crispier, others not so, and it is fair to say that scrambled egg cooked en masse is never at its best ANYWHERE. I'm trying to be as objective as I can.

The location is excelllent - right on the beach and adjacent to plenty of restaurants and cafes. Taxis are plentiful (a rank, day and night, just left of hotel entrance on emerging) and the normal shorter journeys around town seem to be €5, and the charge from airport to hotel is around €35. I imagine that the hotel was pretty full during our stay and every day we saw Airline Crews coming and going.

The Lifts are erratic/slow/mostly a nuisance and I can concur with Reviewers who have pointed this out.
In this regard we saw a lady having a mini tantrum one day because the lift did not come immediately and she stalked off to complain; almost on the dot two lifts came together and the rest of us took off!

Is Cristina really a 5* Hotel. or a 4*, or? I just do not know. I had no micrometer available to accurately measure the distance between those symbols, so all I can say is that I didn't think that the flimsy toilet tissue was quite 5* standard! Apart from that minor idiosyncrasy of mine, we all had a very enjoyable week.

I stayed here on business on the first floor with a sea view. The room was nice although the paper is starting to peel from the walls. Found the staff to be unfriendly on checkin. However the staff working in the small bar were very friendly. TV is poor, and there is no coffee/tea making facilities in the room. Location is excellent. Also there is plenty of places to eat nearby. Breakfast was okay, buffet style. I can't comment on price as I didn't pay. If the price is that of a 3* hotel it would be okay to stay here.

Room Tip: Sea view are nice
