Concorde Hotel Gran Canaria

There was not really anything special about this hotel. It is perfectly adequate for a short stay but I don't think it justifies its 4 star rating. Location is good. It is just a few steps from Las Canteras beach, within walking distance of numerous bars and restaurants, has a taxi rank directly outside and is also handy for buses heading to the old part of town. The room was clean and the staff were professional. The breakfast buffet was plentiful and varied. Wifi really only works in the public areas of the hotel. Decor is pretty tired.

We used this hotel on a walking package holiday in February. It is well positioned close to the superb Las Canteras beach. The number 12 bus from the main bus station and old town drops you at the door.

All the rooms look onto busy city streets and there could be a noise issue, although we had no problems. The dining room is on the top floor and has excellent coastal views. The breakfast buffet was very good if somewhat eccentrically arranged. We ate dinner in the hotel on two occasions, the buffet was better than average with meat and fish freshly cooked to your individual requirements.

As other reviews suggest, the chief downside of the hotel is that it is in need of renovation and modernisation in a number of areas. The public rooms are generally rather dreary and uninviting, other than a pleasant lounge on the first floor. High winds on one day defeated the window seals and drove rain into the dining room, and towels were in place to catch drips through a hole in the ceiling. The hotel was kept very clean, the bedroom cleaning being particularly efficient.

The hotel is located in the quarter of Santa Catalina. You can reach it from San Telmo (central bus station) by bus 1 (longest route), bus 12 (shortest route) or L1 (at night). Most bus stops are next to Parque de Santa Catalina which is 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Moreover there are many buses (guaguas) from the airport which take you to Santa Catalina.
Most people in the hotel come from Scandinavia. So they aren't noisy. Many had babies.
The bathroom has a bathtub with height-adjustable nozzle, a large and well-lit mirror and plenty of room for beauty products, which ladies will especially appreciate.
The breakfast is plentiful. Try the jamon serrano: it's delicious.
The WIFI is free and you can use an old computer for free.
On the heighest floor there's a large terrace with a swimming pool and sunloungers.
It's protected from the winds by glass panels. So you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Playa de las Canteras.
All around there are very many shops and restaurants.

Room Tip: Rooms on the higher floors have probably a view on the coast.

Stayed in November 2013 as part of an organised holiday.

The hotel was clean and comfortable; the reception staff and the cleaning staff were friendly and attentive, especially when one of the party was sick and we needed extra changes of bedding, and the room and bathroom needed scrupulous cleaning. Thank-you!

There was plenty of choice for breakfast, and during our stay there was no issue with crowding (though we were fairly early to breakfast each day). We had one evening meal there, which was OK, but nothing special.

The room was comfortable, with a desk, small table and a chair, and a very small balcony onto the road. The air conditioning took time to kick in, and you had to keep the windows shut for it to work, which meant that it was sometimes hot inside the room. We would have preferred to keep the windows open at night, which we did during the first part of our stay. Unfortunately, although we had asked for a quiet room away from lifts and stairs (which we were given), we had not realised that the side road - Calle Luis Morote - had at least 2 discos on it which on the Thursday and Friday nights did not start until around midnight - with people gathering outside to go in - and did not finish until 5 in the morning, at which point people came out and made a lot of noise in the streets. So we didn't manage much sleep on those 2 nights. Other people in the group had rooms facing onto the Calle Tomas Miller and did not have the same problem.

The hotel location apart from the noise is very good - you can walk onto the promenade almost immediately, and there are plenty of restaurants to choose from on the front.

We stayed one week early January 2014. The room was a standard one and the cleaning was quite OK. The pearls of the hotel are: 1) The sight from the breakfast (and dinner) restaurant on the 6th floor. Food buffet was splendid, especially breakfast. 2) The roof terrace, with a 20 m pool on the 7th floor. Free sun chairs. 3) The personnel, very helpful and friendly. 4) the vicinity to the beach, only 100 m.

This place and its staff give the impression that they've given up. Nothing's dreadful, but nothing's as it should be either, even for a standard class hotel. The air conditioning in our room didn't work properly and the bathroom plumbing was dubious. Neither could be fixed 'until later tomorrow' and since we'd have left by then, we couldn't be bothered to take up the seemingly reluctant offer of a change to a room that might not be any better. The food on offer for dinner and buffet breakfast was seriously ordinary and there was quite a wait to be seated. Not on our list for a return visit, I'm afraid.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel.

I booked this hotel for my parents who were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary. Unfortunately Reina Isabel was fully booked.
I sent them an email before my parents departed explaining the occasion and they told me they would have 'some detail'. Nevertheless my parents arrived and had nothing. Emailed them again and a bottle of champagne was on their room when they were back.
Staff was generally friendly, but not the same can be said for the reception staff.
They had breakfast, lunch and dinner there though the meals are poor, with not much choice and bad quality ingredients.
The area is run down but very close to everything and the beach.
The hotel building is degraded and dirty from all the traffic pollution. The first impression is not good and as you enter there's more deception on the way.
Rooms are very simple, somehow dated, more like a 2 star hotel rather than four, though the cleaning lady is very eficiente and outgoing.
There was also some street noise but not very intrusive.
Wouldn't recommed this hotel for holidays or any kind of special occasion. However if you are travelling for business and staying only a few days you may find convenient the location.

Room Tip: Choose a room on a higher floor.
