“meeting locals”
Reviewed 1 March 2014

it's a very nice area to hang out and meet some locals in the bars and restaurants. More city life in this part with a lot of tourists as well. Very well maintained.

“Old fashioned atmosphere and style”
Reviewed 1 March 2014

Soak up the stylish part of Las Palmas and enjoy the great restaurant in the vicinity such as Majuga, DELICIOSA Marta or Amaiur all of which are within walking distance.

“A gem, far from mass tourism”
Reviewed 7 February 2014

Vegueta, the old Town of Las Palmas, is our favourite part of Town. Here you can find the Cathedral of Santa Ana, with its rooftop views. The square in front was recently renovated and the buildings look fine. Take the Calle Espirito Santo to the small crossing/Square across from the Ermita del Espirito Santo and watch the fountain, said to have a roof to protect it from water :-). Another favourite in Vegueta is the market hall - go there! In the vecinity you find several truly Spanish tapas bars. Yet another favourite is Gabinete Literario in Plaza Cairasco, but now we have actually come to another "barrio", namely Triana, next to Vegueta.

“Well-maintained and good for a very pleasant stroll”

.
The Old Town.

We're told that it dates back 500 years, which does not seem obvious as you walk around. Presumably because most of the buildings were not important enough, or well-enough built, to last that long.

But there are certainly some attractive squares and churches and bourgeois houses from the XVIII century to make it well worth a visit.

There is a good-sized car park in the north of La Vegueta, in the calle Alcalde Diaz Saavedra Navarro. It's right next to the beautiful 19th century produce market - the Mercado de Vegueta - read the review, it's a great place to visit, and even have a snack or lunch.

“Pretty part of town”
Reviewed 5 January 2014

Very Spanish feeling part of town. There are lots of bars and restaurants, all of the cultural bits of town are located here too - for example the cathedral and Casa de Colon.
