“Cheap but average”
Reviewed 6 November 2012

Stayed here 5 nights in october 2012. Location is on a major street 3 blocks in from the middle of the superb Las Canteras beach. The neighborhood is average Las Palmas standard, so this slightly dated hotel stands out a bit as better than the houses around. The entrance, lobby and staff is nice. Also the breakfast is satisfactory-plus. Rooms are old and dated, but clean. Meals other than breakfast are low quality. WiFi in rooms is free but slow. There is a roof terrace with small pool, sunbeds, bar, sauna and a decent gym. Slightly pointless in my opinion with the great beach so close, but some guests seemed to enjoy it there.

All in all it feels like something that was a 4 star hotel 30 years ago but since has been allowed to age. But exceptionally cheap, EUR 35/night for a double room and full board, and its well worth that money.

We stayed a long weekend for my girlfriend’s birthday at Astoria in Las Palmas.
The hotel is located a stone throw from the beach Las Canteras. The neighbourhood might seem a bit shady, but there is really no problem.

Having chosen the full board, we were really surprised by the quality of the buffet, both at lunch and dinner.

The staff is always helpful and talkative.

The pool on the top of the hotel is small but pleasant, and if you want to use the fitness, located at the pool, do so before 3PM, as the sun does heat the room.

The hotels Bar on the last floor is quaint and priced to make your intoxicated.

A hidden Gem.

When you arrive outside the Astoria, don't be fooled by the street it is on and possibly the external building appearance.

The staff are helpful and friendly, the rooms are furnished to a high standard, clean and huge! Large modern bathrooms and beds.

Great location, 5 minute walk from Playa de las Canteras which is a lovely sandy beach with lots of cafes and bars to enjoy.

The shopping centre of Las Palmas is approximately 10 minutes walk away with lots of retail therapy available, even an M&S for those home comforts if you were to require them!

The hotel price included breakfast where there was a lot of variety available, no gripes about any of the food.

The hotel has a roof top pool, quite small but clean and sun terrace; a gym with a range of equipment although it has a conservatory roof so I imagine that this will get quite hot during the summer!
They also have a sauna for guests.

WiFi and internet are free within the hotel to guests, with three desktop computers available for guest use, the WiFi was pretty slow however.

All in all it is a lovely hotel to get your head done in, have a relax, and to be at the centre of the capital city of Gran Canaria. I would stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: Corner suites are large and spacious with a brilliant view from the 5 floor.

We stayed for a week 1/2 board in March 2012.
The Public areas are really better than the 3* rating - especially the rooftop bar & swimming pool.
The hotel is 2 blocks from the main beach with loads of restaurants & bars. It is a short walk from the Santa Catlina bus station and, if you like shopping, then El Corte Ingles is just around the corner!
The food is good quality, but all meals are buffet style. If you prefer fine dining it might be better to go B&B and eat out in the evenings.
Our room was a little cramped, but it was very cheap. There were bigger rooms available, I'm guessing for those guests who paid more than we did!
In March many of the guests are Scandinavian & Spanish and there is not too much tourist information available in English.
I would recommend this hotel for anybody visiting Gran Canaria.

Room Tip: We asked for a quiet room, and got one, but it was smaller than others that faced the front of the h...

Checked with Travel republic- Hotels in Gran Canaria- Bull Hotels web site - Reina Isabella-too expensive, Astoria appears just right. Good choice, Hotel clean, good location, good choice of food - half board plus flight 1.68k - no brainer. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, room and hotel always clean and bright ( g/fl 5star area), roof for sun beds and small swimming pool is bonus, but, beach is best on the island( weekends it's packed). Example 2 days - catch bus to Artenara, entertaining journey! Walks, catch bus back, stagger into hotel tired, good shower then down for dinner, stroll along Las Canteras promenade then back to bed, day 2 - after breakfast loiter up to Santa Catalina park, coffee and watch world go by, Las Canteras beach in the sun plus swimming, back to hotel early afternoon, sleep etc, down for dinner then evening stroll up the promenade. Hired car for last week, much easier to visit Island, however, parking non existent, parked in Olaf Palme St car park - 50 euros for 7 days. Not bad for a 71 yr old!

Room Tip: Ask for quiet room on 4th floor.

Ok, it's not the best Hotel of Las Palmas, but: the price is good, the location is perfect, breakfast is very large for a 3* Hotel, internet wi-fi is free all over, it has a swimming pool on the roof ... what more could you ask from a 3* City Hotel ?

We stayed in this hotel for 12 days after Christmas in the New year, and we found it a great place to stay, the position could not be better it is a five minute walk to the beach and a fifteen minute walk in the other direction to the main shopping street or the two beautiful shopping centres. Our room was on the fourth floor and it was bright and spotlessly clean and a good size, it was cleaned every day by lovely friendly staff. The breakfast was very good with a large selection of food available something to suit every taste, and there is a lovely little bar on the 5th Floor a lovely spot to wind up the evening. We were the only English speaking guests in the Hotel, but we found no problems everyone was very friendly and helpful and we even booked tours with the reception, and arranged our pick up for the airport with the staff there. All in all a lovely little hotel which we hope to visit again and would not have a problem recommending it to friends.
