A bit retro but no harm in that. It is clean and tidy, things work properly and bed is comfortable. Free wi-fi is easily accessed too.
The breakfast is adequate but lacks fruit, tea and coffee are pretty reasonable fruit juice is rather poor, a pity when oranges are so abundant.
Parking can be had for €6 per day at nearby indoor car park (see concierge). I would advise getting a good map of Las Palmas as the local (free) ones miss off lots of roads. The one way system can have you going round in circles. Gold cars from the airport was good and easy to drop off too.

Room Tip: The rooms are quite well sound proofed with two lots of double glazing.

The hotel is just average. Located in third to beach line. The problem can be noise from the street if Your room faces one of the main streets. I would say that it is hotel for economy class tourists.
The problem can be also parking - I just park my car at front of the hotel in order to fix all the registration formalities and wiem returned find a fine.

Stayed here for a week as part of an "on the beach" package. Good sized room with air conditioning. Free wifi everywhere and PCs available on 5th floor. Reasonable swimming pool on roof. Breakfast buffet got a bit boring but can't complain at the price.

This was a great hotel. I stayed with two other friends and the location was perfect, close to the beach, just as close to shops and it had a crazy pool in the roof. We got the breakfast included and it was a big spread with hot cooked food and a continental, loads of fruit and yogs and nice little cake things. Friendly staff, the girl on the desk told us where the nearest supermarket was and they would order taxis at night. Not all young people staying here, there's a good range from couples to families. No loud disco at night so you get quiet time to actually sleep. Good basic hotel.

It is not a fancy hotel, you get what you pay for: delicious food, confortable bed, welcoming staff and a few steps away from Las Canteras beach. Breakfast is always the same but you can choose something different everyday from the variety offered: breads, cereals, english breakfast, fruits, milk, yohgurt. The main meals are very tasty and always bring you good cuisine from the canary islands. The room is big enough, recently refurbished and the soundproof glass works as it should. There were no strange people around the hotel as you may read in some reviews.
I'd stay here again if I get back to Gran Canaria.

Good value for money. We have stayed several times in Astoria. The best thing is location near the beach and in the middle of Las Palmas.

Breakfast is very rich, with good variety of vegetables, breads etc. We also like pool, that is located on the roof. It´s open also in the winter time.

Astoria is not brand new, ans you can see it. But, it´s clean peacefull and nice. It woud be even better if rooms had a balcon.

On wanting to make our first visit to Gran Canaria my wife really did her homework on the internet and with UK travel agents. Since my wife and her mother visited Las Palmas last year for just a few hours whilst on a cruise, it was a resort that she knew would make a good destination for our next holiday, how right she was. The only problem was with the majority of the travel agents we visited they tried to put us off holidaying in Las Palmas being the capital of Gran Canaria for a more touristic type of resort such as Puerto Rico, Puerto de Mogan or Playa Del Ingles. In fact we did visit some of these other resorts whilst on day trips, but with many of these resorts the hotels were built on the cliff face that leads down to the beach. To get to the beach it would have taken a twenty minute walk there as well as back if not longer or by taking a taxi.
The hotel my wife chose was the Astoria in Las Palmas and is literally a two minutes walk from the beach on a side street and completely on the flat. The thing about this hotel is that it is classed as a businessmen’s hotel not a tourist’s hotel which I have to agree with. Whether it was out of season during the month of March but Las Palmas didn’t have any evening entertainment and certainly none in the hotels, but I wouldn’t say this is much of a drawback.
The hotel itself was spotlessly clean as was our room. We were booked in for breakfast and evening meal and the buffet food was plentiful and varied, certainly no complaints. The one failing I have to pick up on was the size of the so called double bed which was more of a three quarter size and even with the size, the bed linen failed to cover it. It was a matter of one good turn takes all the sheets. I’m sure we could have asked for another sheet or two but alas we didn’t.
All in all a really good hotel, good value for the money and a good holiday destination.
