nice calm location, uninterrupted sea views, nice surrounding walks, sometime noisy sea for those who may not enjoy it, but the sound of waves can put you to sleep too.....food quality can be better, but breakfast selection is adequate.

The location and position of this 3* Parador is magnificent and unforgettable!
Here you are in splendid isolation, no noise bothers you, and if you want to become one with nature, this is the place to visit!
In front of the property there are two big beaches (black stones). Unfortunately the sea is too rough to swim in, and the stones are too big to take a beach walk. But it is lovely just to look at this impressive nature here!
The lobby is relatively small and dark, but we still liked it. Here we are on the remotest, most modest and most quiet of the 7 Canary Islands. That means it would be silly to expect a Grand Hyatt style hotel here...
The restaurant is very nice and well kept, you can also dine under the stars or have breakfast on the same terrace. Lovely!!
Rooms are okay, bathrooms as well. Remember that this is not a 4* Parador, but a 3*...
It is a MUST to book a SEA VIEW room, because if not you just look at a dark, 500 meters tall rock and no other views than darkness.
Food was very good, service very friendly (reception and restaurant). All in all we really liked this Parador a lot and felt happy here - much happier than at Parador La Palma.
There are just 2 negative points to mention: the gardens are in desastrous conditions! Almost all plants are about to die, they all seem sick. Never saw something like that in a Parador...what a pity! The pool is far from beautiful, showers look filthy and not clean, deck chairs are worn out and umbrellas even worse. One can feel and see very well that this Parador lacks of money. Those public areas would need an urgent face lift in order not to destroy the good reputation of the Paradores. Nevertheless, it is by far the nicest place to stay on wonderful El Hierro, we loved it here. The sea is SO rough here, so wild, that it is the best therapy to fall asleep immediately! It is a very special and romantic place and its simplicity is a lovely contrast to all those ugly mass tourism hotels on other islands.
Rates in this Parador are very high as it is the only nice accomodation of El Hierro, therefore they make you pay for it. On La Gomera we paid 80€ for a lovely sea view room (official rate), here on El Hierro 140€ (official rate as well). It is much exaggerated as La Gomera's Parador for sure has a much higher level...

Beautiful location at the end of the east coast road, separated from the world by a half-mile, one-way-at-a-time (stoplight equipped) tunnel that exits at the scenic Roque de Bonanza into a spectacular bay beneath 1500-foot cliffs. It's the remotest of all Spanish paradors and certainly a bit more rustic than most. However, it's accommodating staff, good restaurant, and fine public areas make it one of the best hotels in the Canaries. It's not a beach resort (although it has a fine pool), but an oasis of tranquility. The Canarian equivalent of the end of the Hana Highway in Maui. Out of the way, but by far the best place to stay on El Hierro.

The first thing you need to ask yourself is if El Hierro is the place for you. It is so far removed from the usual canary experience, which is precisely why we loved it, but not everyone might. If however you do want to come, this is THE place to stay! It is arguably the island’s top hotel but don’t come expecting a luxury hotel as it holds a three star rating, and I’ve evaluated it with that in mind. Come instead expecting a unique and genuine canary experience and you will have a great time.

The hotel holds a fantastic location right on the water’s edge surrounded by black volcanic mountains with green vegetation. The Parador (built in 1928) is a low rising building with balconies and terracotta roof, and has amble place to sit both outside and inside. Among them a lovely courtyard ideal to enjoy breakfast, lunch or just a drink. They also have a good sized saltwater swimming pool right at the ocean’s edge, giving guests a great place to lounge. The inside is also attractively furnished with beautiful hardwood floors throughout.

The rooms themselves are good sized, and if you ask for a sea facing room, you’ll have a balcony overlooking the sea and the mountains beyond. The bathrooms are both modern and attractive, offering more than their official rating would suggest. The staff is very friendly, helpful and attentive and does this place credit as well as adds to the total experience. Please note that not all of them speak English, but that only adds to the charm (especially since my travel companion speaks some Spanish!).

In summary we really loved this place and would go back in a heartbeat should we ever return to El Hierro.

We arrived on 6 th Feb 2013 . Stayed till today the 10th. Magical setting. Beautiful sea view room provided as requested.
Not a lot of other guests at this time of the year, suited us fine . It has 37 rooms. We found the staff to be very helpful and attentive, but not intrusive. Naming individual members is easy as they all wore name tags...Nieves, Milagro , Emilio, Carlos, Julio, Yeray, Fernando, Mira......we're the ones we took note of. This does not mean that all the rest of the staff were not as good ... Just that we didn't manage to note them all...sorry. Nothing was a bother to any of the staff.
The hotel was spotless and continually cleaned and checked. The traditional Spanish style was lovely and created a relaxing ambiance.
The breakfast was buffet and self service and again spot on, Fernando was excellent in his service.
The evening meals were great and the portions were perfect. The varying wee extra starters were an excellent addition to the menu. The service again.. Great .
Bar staff attentive and snacks were good.
The reception staff provided our extra requests as in directions and phoning in masseuse with efficiency. The surrounding scenery and the short drive (20 minutes) from the ferry port were lovely and unique , by coastal road and tunnels .

Room Tip: Sea view for the sound of rolling waves or other side if you want it quieter.

I feel guilty giving this Parador only 3 stars! We stayed overnight in early February. The staff are excellent, the position of the hotel is great, the breakfast was very good, the public areas were quiet and comfortable, the room was clean and had a great view of the ocean. However, the decor of the room was tired and, for the price that Paradors charge, it really should be refurbished. This didn't spoil our stay but the Parador owners (the state, I assume) need to spend some money on this one to keep the rooms up to the expected standard. The stars I've given may be harsh but we also stayed at another hotel on El HIerro for much less, a more up-to-date room. and an equally great setting and views.

Great place for relaxing by the pool, listening to the waves and seeing the million stars on a clear night. It is a quiet island and if you want to put your nose in a book then this is the place for you. Room fabulous balcony overlooking the sea and only seeing the light of the tunnel at night. Need a car to get around, plenty of sights to see. This was our second time there and we will book again. I do agree with Nigel that the restaurant food needs improving. Dont listen to the news on the eruptions, not even a coffee cup rattled.
