“Very Special Lanzarote chill out !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2013

Hotel Villa Vik, Lanzarote

Once one of the super luxury Villas built along this southern Lanzarote coastline, this 14 bedroom “adults only” boutique hotel provides the ultimate in “chill-out” tranquillity with genuinely friendly and wonderful service in a modern attractive setting. When staying here you are made to feel more like valued house guests rather than mere hotel customers.

Extensive renovations took place in 2007 but many original features such as the unique walled in garden and swimming pool have been retained. All rooms are unique, comfortable and spacious. Ours had a sitting area (with settee, writing desk and television), dressing room, large bathroom and separate loo. My wife especially liked the full-sized roll topped bath. I appreciated the “proper” plugs to the bath and sinks that actually kept the water in! We were on the lower level with an outside sitting area in front of the pool. Rooms are kept spotless with faultless “house keeping”.

The dining rooms and other public areas are attractive with evidence of unique design elements and many original pieces of art work – indeed the upper floor corridors are art galleries in their own right!

Outside there are plenty of comfortable sun beds for everyone around the pool and thoughtfully, beach towels are provided each day. Refreshments are served outside when required. Cacti enthusiasts will be amazed at the wonderful varieties growing amongst the almost black volcanic rock and palm trees in this unique garden.

It should be noted that rooms on the ground floor tend to be somewhat dark, mainly due to the overhanging balcony to the rooms above. I suppose that this shade might well be welcome in mid-summer.

We were booked in for half- board (breakfast and dinner). Breakfasts were good with a wide choice, including cooked food. The bread supplied was superb. Dinners however were a little disappointing with fairly limited choice and, although adequate, certainly not up to “gourmet” standard which, compared to the 5 star quality of everything else, is a shame. There is however a good wine list and some very palatable local wines are available at moderate cost. Lunchtime light meals are available at reasonable prices and refreshments are served around the pool at any time if required.

The immediate area around the hotel is essentially residential and boasts some large exclusive private villas behind high walls. However, there is some evidence of Spain’s economic decline. A walk towards the sea takes you across a derelict building site where it is obvious that development has come to an abrupt halt.

This, mostly rocky, part of the coast has a fabulous paved promenade stretching from the capital Arrecife almost to the airport. This car free pathway is widely used by cyclists, joggers and walkers – Villa Vik is about 30 minutes’ walk from Arrecife. Some sandy beaches, small bars and restaurants are within walking distance in both directions.

In conclusion, if, like my wife and I, you want a short holiday to relax and be thoroughly spoiled in tranquil semi-tropical surroundings, then this is the place for you.

Room Tip: Probably best to ask for a room on the upper level since these are lighter and offer views of the se...

We have just got back from 5 nights at this most wonderful hotel. If you are looking for a luxurious, relaxing break with fantastic food and attentive staff this is the place. As soon as we arrived we were welcomed straight away and throughout the stay everything was made easy.
We were half board so there is minimal selection at lunchtime, but to be honest, it was nice to not over indulge on buffet food and feel like you can still stand up after eating.
I would recommend anyone to stay and thanks to all the staff, they are just brilliant.

We have just returned from five nights at Hotel Villa Vik. I can honestly say this is one of the best hotels we have stayed in. The decor and ambience are perfect. The grounds are tasteful and well thought out. The food is excellent and the staff just can't do enough. I would definitely recommend this hotel and we intend to return later in the year.

Room Tip: We were upgraded to a junior suite which although not having a balcony, has an outside hot tub.

We loved this hotel, the designs of the rooms, public areas and garden are spectactular and all spotlessly clean. The staff are wonderfully attentive and the food is delicious. All ideal for a relaxing break. Just be aware , we were on a half-board deal, and everything more than breakfast and dinner is charged for - even coffee after dinner! A lovely touch though, on arrival we were presented with complementary Cava, water and fruit.
Hotel is very close to airport, but there is no aircraft noise - only the birds 'dawn chorus' will wake you!

Room Tip: There is no lift and the stairs are twisty and not well lit so if you have walking difficulties ask...

We found this hotel on a website specialising in discounted luxury breaks. We went for 7 days in January 2013 hoping for some winter sunshine but as importantly because the hotel had good reviews. We weren't disappointed. Only a short drive from the airport the hotel sits in a quite exclusive (for Lanzarote) residential area. Even if the initial access is a little misleading, ie, we left the autoroute via a petrol filling station slip road. A lot of thought and money has gone into creating this luxury hotel experience. Beautifully landscaped gardens, well appointed and furnished rooms, unbelievably accommodating staff all of which combined to make our holiday a truly wonderful experience. The key hotel staff - Belfa, Sylvia, Julia and Daniel were amazing. They really couldn't do enough for you. No request was beyond them. Evening meals were well prepared with quality produce and a reasonable menu choice particularly given the small numbers of guests who used the restaurant. We cannot recommend the experience enough. It may not be to everyone's taste in that there were few restaurants, bars or other amenities close by but if you want a quiet break not intruded by children and were the staff simply want you to have a relaxing time then this is a great place to go especially if you're after some winter sunshine.

Room Tip: Our rating for fitness centre and spa does not accurately reflect that the hotel does not offer thes...

I booked this small hotel following good Trip Advisor reviews. It is set in a quiet residential area less than 10 minutes drive from the airport. I was hoping for a totally relaxing, peaceful, child-free week's holiday. I was not disappointed; in fact the hotel exceeded my expectations. Everywhere is nicely decorated/furnished and kept very clean. The bedrooms are spacious and well appointed. The pool area is very pleasant and there are walled areas with sun beds for more privacy. The food at breakfast and dinner is good. The small team of staff are exceptional; they go out of their way to give the best service to give you the best holiday. They are professional and genuinely caring and friendly. I look forward to returning.
