We booked this holiday wanting a luxury break before Christmas. We arrived and shown to our room or should we say (cave) we were in a ground floor room that was dark with no sea view! We had requested a first floor room with a view. We were told that the hotel was full. So we made the decision we would go with it!
The food was very disappointing! First night the sole we wanted there was only one portion left! My husband took the pollock I had sole, it was cold, and full of bones, breakfast was no better, the lack of choice was surprising! The cereal was very limited and poor quality. Hot food was eggs, fried sometimes scrambled and very crisp bacon! The eggs were always pre cooked and stacked in a covered hot plate! You couldn't find a soft egg even if you arrived before the 8.30 start! Not what we expected from a small 5 star hotel. For the size of hotel they could have easily cooked eggs to order! Dinner didn't improve! Still cold and poor quality produce. I did complain to the English chef after we had the worst meal! We wanted duck, they had run out, again! The alternative lamb chops. They arrived, cold with white uncooked fat, but even worse it was served with the orange/ cinnamon sauce, it was dreadful. I did tell the chef that the meal was awful, like every meal I had eaten! He was embarrassed quite rightly so! I must say that the temperature improved after the complaint. But the quality of food certainly didn't. The staff in the hotel were just amazing! But they were stretched, when the hotel was full, they had to serve at the bar and serve dinner! They did their best and all worked very hard! Nothing was too much trouble!
The pool was not heated as advertised, the jacuzzi empty throughout our 10 day stay, and the sun beds were so uncomfortable! The pads are thin and the beds old with splinters! Some with wonky wheels. The hotel is just not managed! There should be a manager their every day! We didn't see any managers during our stay! The hotel is isolated and if you don't hire a car a long walk into Arrecife. The hotel bikes were in demand and pretty old. Despite our negative comments we enjoyed our holiday! This hotel could be perfect but they are cutting corners, the quality of the food needs to be improved, and fresh produce used, more choice for breakfast and dinner! Our comments are meant to be constructive criticism! Janice & Peter Barnfather, Milton Keynes, bucks uk.
