“Really good flavour for the history of the Canary Islands!”

Owner description: This Museum´s permanent exhibition, in Casa Lercaro, is a journey through the history of the island, with the emphasis placed on the main economic and social milestones of the last few centuries. Inconclusive and provisional, as any representation of history inevitably has to be, this exhibition is, however, a synthetic approach to the social and cultural dimensions of the island’s past and of how it fits into the dynamics of the history of European expansion.

This was a free entrance when we went and we stayed for about an hour and half. Worth going to- lots of lovely historic maps to look at.

We were curios about the history of the island, and this museum is a good place to get information about it. The house of the museum is very nice and has it's own interesting history. The stuff was very helpful and we had no problem to walk around with a baby stroller (the museum is on the 1. floor). The only problem was that the info was given to us in a booklet, which contained a lot of pages to read, so we spent much time standing and reading. They those booklets in 4 languages!

Visited La Laguna from Puerto de la Cruz by local bus from the La Paz district of Puerto. €2.55 each way with a bono card. This turned out to be the highlight of my two week holiday to the North of Tenerife. La Laguna is designated a World Heritage site, and from the minute you leave the bus station, cross over to the University and walk deeper into the town you soon find out why. It's as if time has stood still. All the houses, churches and little squares are fascinating and unspoiled. Lovely museum enclosed in an old Spanish Town House. Very vibrant city because of the vast number of students at the Islands University mixed with locals and tourists. Really loved it, and if you have to choose between a visit to Santa Cruz or La Laguna, there is no competition. La Laguna wins hands down.

This is a lovely building with very interesting exhibits.
However, it is spoiled by the fact that most information is only in Spanish - not appropriate in today`s world , especially in a country which depends on tourism!
