Nice little hotel, lovely foyer area. Good breakfast, shame about the beds, these need replacing - this was my only complaint at this hotel. Would go back only if the beds were replaced. Was very conveniently located.

Room Tip: If you want quiet get a room with no sea view.

The Monopol is a somewhat old fashioned place with querky decor and rooms -flower heads decorate the front steps , reception, the telephone , ashtrays - and almost anything else the old lady decides on that day. Staff are friendly food is very good theres a pool and lots of antiques and paintings of various standard to look at. If you re tired of staying in a square box this is a bit different I loved it ! Some rooms could do with modernising but I do hope that when they do that they won't change the absolute charm of the place

Having been to Puerto de la Cruz several times, I have seen the Monopol on many occassions and was really looking forward to staying there. However, I was quite disappointed with several aspects of this hotel. First impressions are good with hibiscus and bougainvillea on the step and reception area. All very nice and also the hotel has a traditional Spanish look. After checking in ,we were taken to our room, and were greeted with a dirty cloth in the bathroom. That may have been an oversight by the maid we thought, but on further inspection, we found a greasy hand print on the mirror door which remained there for the duration of our stay. A bath towel had a dirty stain on,the shower head wasn't the cleanest, and there was a smell in the bathroom as well as ants. Some of the staff need to learn how to smile, and as for breakfast, this was a great disappointment. Everything was cold. Bacon was dripping in oil and eggs were hard. Overall, hotel needs updating and the maid needs serious training or sacking !!! Sadly I won't return to this hotel

It's hotel is rated as 3star, I even checked on here to see if it was any good and all the reviews looked promising HOW WRONG WERE WE!!
The hotel appearance is from the 70,s, there was no entertainment the pool isn't very big or deep.
We paid for bed and breakfast, well breakfast looked good when you walk in especially for variety but you would be sadly mistaken that anything was really that edible, all the cooked breakfast items looked like they had been sat all week, bacon was either burnt to a crisp or barely cooked and cold but dripping in fat, eggs had a funny taste, tomatoes were the week beforehand, bread was mouldy and wasn't fresh until old had gone, the chef had a thing for the toasting machine and wouldn't let anything go through it, cereals were all stale to the point of breaking your teeth.
The room on first appearance looked not too bad it was a little dated but electric sockets were all sideways and were not attached very well, the ceiling fan was filthy hadn't been dusted for years, drawers were dirty inside and floor always felt bitty to walk on.
The bathroom was absolutely disgusting as soon as you open the door the smell of sewage hits you, the bath tiles had been painted over with gloss to try and disguise the mould, there were stains in the bath and paint splashes, the shower worked excellent but was filthy there were cracked tiles all over shower rail was wonky, up above the toilet was an open space filled with all sorts of rubbish and open to the outside had we been lower we would have had a rodent problem, room was very noisy.
Staff were the rudest people I've ever met only the chambermaids and 2 people on reception who were friendly and no one spoke very good English.

Room Tip: Don't stay here at all

Excellent value staff very helpful & polite ( Bertrand Russell stayed at the hotel. in the year dot).
Shops & beach's minutes away.
Bus transfer pick up point two minute walk away.
Very laid back, very Spanish, very nice.
Breakfast excellent choice, eat what you want (bacon .eggs beans tomatoes if you want English)
I cannot praise the hotel & staff enough.
The only reason i gave three stars for sleep,Julu seems to a saints month, bands & festivity's at the church (colourful but noisey).
