On arrival discovered hotel surrounded by roadworks. We were put into rooms on lower ground floor, after pre booking rooms with a balcony .Eventually moved, but room tatty and bathroom smelly.
The hotel is also very noisey we could clearly hear snoring, and people talking and moving about.
The area at the rear of the hotel, next to the police station is a place where local youths congregate and party into the early hours (5am) can be clearly heard if your room faces this area.
May have been a nice hotel ten years ago but needs money investing in it.
The food definately caters for the german taste.
On the plus side the staff are friendly and helpful, and the hotel is clean.

If you are looking for a very good famly run friendly Hotel then this typical Canarian style Hotel will be the place for you.
Situated centrally this hotel has a warm friendly atmosphere with all of the staff making sure that your stay is comfortable and that your custom is appreciated. From the daily maid service to the waiters and front desk staff I couldnt find fault at all. The rooms and comfortably furnished. I had requested a room at the front of the Hotel which had lovely views over a local square and Church. The pedestrianised thoroughfare in front of the Hotel can be very busy during the day and on occassion a little noisy at night but taking into consideration the fact that the double glazed windows worked excellently and that there is a fan in the room to keep you cool this proved to be no inconvenience. I would recommend this Hotel highly as a great central place to be for your time in Puerto de la Cruz.

I had booked directly through the hotel, having chosen this property for its Canarian character, small size, reasonable rates and central location, and I found the fact that the hotel has been run by the same family since the start re-assuring. I emailed the hotel about rooms and info and got very prompt friendly replies.
I was a bit disappointed when I arrived that I had not been given the southfacing room with balcony I had requested, but I appreciate that the hotel wanted to utilise larger rooms for couples rather than single travellers during busy periods.
The single room looked out onto a side alley and was a bit dark and rather noisy from building work going on till 9 pm in the building opposite. After 3 days I was moved into the room I had asked for and it was really pleasant - spacious and with a balcony looking out onto the square, which I enjoyed relaxing on in the evening. A bunch of fragrant roses that appeared in the room when I returned in the evening was a really nice touch.
The hotel itself has a very nice character with its peaceful old courtyard with palm trees. All areas were spotlessly clean and the staff very friendly. The location is excellent, right in the centre of the town and near the seafront, yet it comes complete with a sun terrace, a small pool and a jacuzzi.
I parked in the secure car park underneath the nearby Plaza de Europa - not exactly cheap at 10 Euros per day, but convenient under the circumstances.
I agree about the tables in the restaurant being fairly close together, but as a single traveller I don't mind that. Most of the guests were older than me, which made for a quiet atmosphere.
The breakfast was good, offering a wide range of fresh goodies. I personally don't like buffet-style dinners much, so I chose to eat at nearby restaurants several times, and everything being within walking distance was great. My main gripe about the hotel dinners is that I had to wait to order drinks for quite a while, probably because there weren't enough waiting staff to cope with the crowd.
On two nights there was entertainment in the courtyard, which I could take or leave, but as none of it was specifically Canarian or Spanish, I didn't bother. I heard from other guests that there had been flamenco previously, so I was probably unlucky.
Overall this was a very pleasant stay in the best part of town, and the hotel lived up to my expectations. I hope there will be places like this for a long time, competing with the big characterless resort complexes that could be anywhere.
