“Sit and ponder the world.”
Reviewed 9 February 2014

This is a lovely place to sit and ponder. When it is busy you can watch life unfolding the the local community interacting. Unlike the UK where anyone, let alone a man, is chased away from a kids playground it is the men of the family who bring the children here and keep a loose eye on them. Communication is encouraged and older men (& women) engage and enjoy watching the children. There are cafes if you want to eat or drink or there are seats and walls where you can sit and observe. There is a popular ice cream shop and at carnival the newspaper sellers also sell face masks and other carnival apparel. As carnival hots up various other stalls arrive selling sweets, churros, sausages and pizza. It is a fun place and when quieter the pidgeons come and rest and you can listen to the fountain. You can get taxi's from here and it is just round the corner from the port and tourist office. All streets lead here pretty much. At carnival the murgasas and comprasas (singers and funny men) perfom and extra chairs are put there for the locals. They have no problem with the tourist and will accommodate you, but not always engage. Lovely place. Around the area wheelchair access is not a problem as most areas, although very steep in places, have steps as well as push or wheelchair access. Having said that there are areas where you simply cannot get across roads, or the pavement is just too narrow and high, because don't forget it is still mostly an old fashioned little village.

“Plaza del tourismus”
Reviewed 16 January 2014

The beating heart of the tourist centre of the city. The plaza is full of very annoying bouncers trying to lure you into the restaurants. The restaurants are average and below, although the ice cream shop in the corner serves very nice gelato (mojito recommended!). If you want to get real, tasty food in more local atmosphere wander a couple of blocks away.

“Brilliant square”
Reviewed 3 January 2014

Just love this square, so bright and vibrant. Surrounded by little shops there are dozens of restaurants, each offering different styles of eating, some with music. Locals stroll around, tourists stroll around and children and dogs play. It is the jewel in the crown of Puerto de la Cruz.

“A typical town square”
Reviewed 1 January 2014

A chance to rub shoulders with the locals especially at the weekends. Puerto is not just for the tourists and the square is very much the hub of the town and a meeting point.A great place to sit and watch the world go by. Try people watching, there is always something going on. The square is surrounded with a variety of bars and restaurants which should cater for most peoples needs
