“Butlins without the sofistication!!”

My wife and I stayed at this hotel November 8th-11th 2013. The welcome we received was terrible, Basil Fawlty could have done a better job. Ignorant and bolshy about covers it. The room (103) was satisfactory apart from the outlook. The balcony was at ground level with a view of a very dirty wall and a totally unkempt garden, this was further enhanced by a view of two drainage pipes, coloured green to apparently blend into the background, they did not. We were not" all inclusive" therefore they tried to charge for everything. The bar was charging seafront bar prices and trying to fob you of with inferior spirits. Happy hour was useless, paid for two Bacardi and cokes, when we returned to the bar for our "free" drink we were told that they had run out of Bacardi and none was available in the Hotel, no Bacardi in a Spanish hotel? unheard of!! The location of the Hotel was 165 steps from the town and 95 steps further up the bigger pool, Oxygen please. The breakfast was totally chaotic, no care about presentation, ran out of bacon on Monday, very dirty work surfaces. All in all a very poor impression of what may have been a good Hotel in the 70's but is sadly lacking in the modern world.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel or go for a high floor.

Spent one week here at the beginning of November. We went for the b&b option sorry didn't opt for all inclusive looked really good value, but we booked very last minute and took what we could get. Very clean well run place. Would recommend to anyone

The good;

The hotel was clean and modern with pleasant staff and a large bar area for the evenings. Maid service was good and rooms kept tidy with clean towels every day. Price was very reasonable (but see further comments. Breakfast was good with a live cooking station making omelets and pancakes. Rooms were nice and quiet so you could get a good night’s sleep and a lay in. Free Wi-Fi in the reception area. The top pool area is very quiet and only has a handful of people around it.

The Bad;

The room that we booked was very small for two people, and I had my daughter with me which made three, the option was to upgrade to a mini suite, which we did and it was £240.00 extra for the week.

The heated pool was NOT heated and it was a chore to get in the water. The bottom pool has quite a few trees around it which shade quite a lot of the area. The location is on a very steep hill and if you have problems walking then it will not be for you. Evening entertainment was all in Spanish and Peter the DJ was awful, he just sat on a stool playing music.

The rest;

The hotel is very reasonably priced but watch out for a long bus transfer or a charge of £60.00 each way for a taxi. Plus if there are two adults and a child you may want to pay for the upgrade.
The town which is around a ten minutes walk away has lanes like Brighton which are great to explore but….. there are very few actual bars and it’s all restaurants or cafes plus it is not geared up for British people and not everyone speaks English.
Instead of going down the hill into town try going up the hill and take the first left and follow the road round, there are a couple of nice bars in this area plus a nice selection of restaurants.
Do go to Loro park, it’s amazing.

Would I go again? No, Los Cristianos offers lots more.

Room Tip: Go for a suit which has a separate lounge/bedroom

Thank you very much for taking your time to inform other Tripadvisor travellers of your experience in our Hotel and I really appreciate your positive opinion on our installations, maid service, breakfast buffet and pleasant staff. We try hard every day so that our customers percieve our friendly and personal service.

On the other hand, I am sorry our location and our resident DJ were not as positive as we would have liked.

Concerning the trees which shade the main pool area, the majority are native trees and plants which have their own charm and have been there for many years.

I regret that you did not find the town of Puerto de la Cruz to your satisfaction and that you would not return to the north of the island again.

Booked with Jet2 holidays and was offered an upgrade of a ocean or pool view which would have been hard not to have got as all faced in those directions. The staff were very pleasant and always willing to help, rooms were comfortable and clean, but as the air conditioning was broken far too hot (for broken I believe it was turned off). Food could have been hotter but the variety was good. The pool attendant went beyond helpful he never took his eyes off the children whilst in the pool. Animation team well one person was uninspiring but good with young children and varied the games. Entertainment was dancers, snake show also discos so glad we took games to play ie cards dominoes etc. We paid 20 euros for wifi in our room which was a waste of money it worked for 2 days when we asked about it the answer was always the internet was down but able to connect free in the lobby. As we had had some room wifi it was tough luck on us so no reimbursement for the none access days which we found unfair as we had paid for the week. Had we not had 2 children with us we would have argued the points no wifi nor air con but as they were present we left graciously but felt annoyed. The area the hotel was in was very hilly and found a taxi was needed both ways, the hotel provided a bus but only to a commercial centre which was good. Overall a great time and my thanks to most of the staff.

Room Tip: the view from the top floor (7) facing the pool was fab at night.

Room was clean and ok in standard. Hard beds, but staff provided us with softer covers without any hazzle. No fridge or minibar, which was disappointment.

Staff was helpful and friendly, with some exceptions. Bad knowledge of english.

Pool area was clean and lot of sun beds.

Big, somewhat noisy dining area. Helpful and quick service, but not 100% professional. (got red wine directly out of fridge!! )

Food was disappointing. Everything tasted almost the same. Most food was severely overcooked. Fish was rock hard and dry. But breakfast was ok. Coffe was a disaster

Wifi free in reception are. Somewhat slow and weak. Paid for wifi at room, weak and intermittent function. 20€ for a week. To expensive for the slow wifi in room.

Location ok. A bit long and steep walk to city, but good walkway. Sometime a bit noisy with traffic, and late party at pool.

Evening entertainment was really boring, I'll rather see paint dry.

Parking in basement was free and we always got a place but if you arrive late or if hotel is full, you probably will not find parking space. Very, very narrow spaces.

Sine price was good, I still say quite good value for money, but next time probably spend a couple € more to get a better hotel.

Room Tip: South side = pool, sun and traffic. Noisy North side = View, no sun, quieter. But if below floor 3...

We booked last minute, we arrived to a really unhappy receptionist, who kindly passed us to a lovely friendly lady receptionist, thankfully !! Got to our rooms which were lovely and clean. Food was ok but not to warm, the only time the staff spoke was to tell us we had to pay for our drinks before we left, which we had to wait till someone went to the till. Our stay was ok, then when we left an even more grumpy male receptionist checked us out, didn't even speak to us only said 7, 30 ? We had to work out what he meant then paid him, still no thanks or how was your stay !! Think there are people more deserving of jobs out there !!!!!

We spent 2 weeks here as a couple. The first impression was good: has 2 nice pools, large bar at the reception area and another one at one of the pools. The staff at the reception speaks english - and no one else (waiters, bar staff). As a couple we booked a double bed room (one big mattress) but got a twin bed room. It was clean, and bright located on the fist floor: good - didn't need to wait for the lift all the time and had easy acces to the pools and the restaurant, bad - facing to the pool wich was very noisy till late nigtht, as all the people was drinking, singing and yelling there.
There was a good range of food in the restaurant, but quite boring, nearly the same every day and they coudn't manage to keep it hot (or at least warm). The waiters are smiley but don't speak english.
There are traces of wifi at the reception area...don't expect too much.
So, overall not bad but I would say it is a 3 star hotel rather than 4.

First of all I would like to thank you for having chosen our Hotel for your holidays and secondly for having taken your time to post your comments on Tripadvisor for other travellers knowledge.

I am pleased that you found our installations and buffet in general to your liking and have taken into account your comment on the food being only warm to better this aspect as soon as possible.

I´m sorry you found your pool view room on the first floor rather noisy due to other guests singing and shouting in the main pool area. At the time of your stay our hotel had a large occupation of spanish clients who have different customs and retire to their rooms later on.
Never the less, we try hard to keep calm and quietness after a certain hour of the evening.
