“A great place to unwind”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 August 2013

Bill Clinton and Placido Domingo - not to say various Royal families - evidently share great taste.

Hotel Botanico combines great facilities (outdoor pools, tennis courts, putting green) with a team that go the extra mile and genuinely enjoy being part of it. The hotel attracts a healthy mix of young families and seniors from across Europe and beyond.

Breakfast is served indoors and outdoors, offering something for everyone. We particularly enjoyed Il Pappagallo - well managed (Suzanne), with first class food and service. For those looking for a change of scene in the evenings, Magnolia (across the road) is a compelling alternative - try the fillet steak stuffed with prawns and avocado. For something a little different, Mamma Rosa (in town) is worth a visit. For (delightful) coffee and cake, El Aderno is a couple of minutes walk down the hill and - for us - proved a regular fixture.

The reading room is a nice spot to lose yourself in the Daily Telegraph or a book from the burgeoning collection (ordered in Spanish, German and English).

Visits to La Orotava and, farther afield, up Mt Teide were most rewarding.

Special mention must go to Steph and colleagues at the Botanico Kinder Aventura, who arrange action-packed trips/VIP access to Loro Parque for some of the smaller guests.

The 10 glorious days passed much too quickly - the perfect backdrop for our daughter's fifth birthday.

We spent ten days here recently and have already booked to go back in the new year. There really is nothing new I can add to previous reviewers comments. For us this hotel is sheer perfection. Work being fairly demanding, I absolutely need to have a totally calm, peaceful and relaxing time on holiday. The Botanico delivers and then just keeps on delivering! The staff are utterly charming. The spa is sensational, being a quite separate, very large area to one side of the hotel, for over 16's only set in stunning, oriental themed gardens. We loved having breakfast outside by the pool, and afterwards strolling through the beautiful gardens, over the wooden bridge in the middle of the lake, watching the koi carp and the black swans compete for food. There is a complimentary bus into the centre of Puerto, but we walked both ways usually and that took us roughly 20 minutes. Yes it is quite steep on the way back! Our room had a panoramic view over red tiled roof tops to the sea and was a lovely spot to sit and watch the sun go down .Thank you to everyone at The Botanico for making this place so very special. Hasta la proxima vez!

A wonderful setting, with a backdrop of mountains & green sloping valleys on the one side with the port of peurto de la cruz to the other side by the sea. The area is beautiful & authentically spanish. The hotel is set in a wonderful tropical garden with amazing flowers and plants. I thought the food was excellent having sampled the club sandwich ( a true sign of a good hotel) i would give it 10/10. Th erooms have all been recently refurbished since the pictures on here and are very nice with a contempary but still classical design. Staff here are wonderful and the whole place has a feeling of space & tranquility. The spa area feels as if you have been transported to thailand and is totally rejuvinating & peaceful. You can get tours from here to visit Teide, and some local towns - or take a stroll outside the hotel for some traditional resturants and shops. A lovely hotel that ticks all the boxes for "Authentic Tenerife".

Room Tip: all recently refurbished with great views.( mountain view is my favorite)

It was our first visit to The Botanico Hotel – but definitely not the last. The hotel has an outstanding garden as a mirror of the botanical garden on the other side of the road. Very well kept with little lakes with fish and birds – we even came across a turtle and a few of the local lizards. The staff was efficient and made you feel welcome even at home from the forts minute. We had a room in the fourth floor with a view of the garden and a side view of the Teide volcano. The room was of an ordinary size, decorated with paintings of birds by a local artist. The bathroom was big and with marble floor – nice touch. You had to shower in the bath tub but you get used to that. I remember Woody Allen once said that if the good lord wanted you to shower he would have our armpits turn the other way. I would add and he would have changed the laws of physics so that you were not entangled in the shower curtain – which you were here.
We had not found out were to dry the wet bathing suits – a clothesline of some kind on the balcony would have been nice. The room was quiet and air-condition allowed you adjust it to your own needs.
The spa is just wonderful – we went every afternoon – you were given special bathrobes with slippers for that – and it was never full. You have a choice of three very large outdoor spas end a couple of indoors as well.
The food – we had half board – was excellent – the best we have had in a hotel yet – and the service outstanding. A nice touch is that they serve open wine and local wine. We may not choose half board next time to feel freer to choose from the menu. There is valet parking at the hotel so you don’t have to worry about parking when you arrive tired from the flight.
A nice touch is the map of jogging suggestions to be found in the room. We chose another – but it gave inspiration.
The hotel had a bar – but very few guests used it- even when a sangria class was offered.
The hotel was only about 30 % occupied when we visited – July is out of season – but I will look forward to come back even at a more busy time whenever we can find the time and the money

Room Tip: A view of the garden and of the Teide on one of the upper floors.

We flew with Monarch, Good flights both ways but they must have the smallest seats I have been forded to spend 4 plus hours in, I admit I am not a little chap but 16stone isn't enormous either and I could not put the tray down without it resting on my stomach and very seats
narrow too. Not good. Would choose another airline next time, have flown with many others without encountering seats this small.

This was our third visit although this is the first time we have gone with children.
The Botanico is a wonderfully serene place very relaxing and deerving of its 5 stars, The garden is magical and calming with varied types of palm trees and flowers. There is a lake in the garden absolutely teaming with koi carp, which the children loved to feed along with the swans. There are also many butterflies. The three restaurants served up very nice food and had a lovely atmosphere, but they are not cheap, Three courses with wine will set you back 160 Euros,
The bar area is very comfortable although the evening entertainment left a bit to be desired, Lovely singers and duets but catering for the more senior clientele, didn't spoil anything and the kids still got up and had a dance on the dance floor.

There are lots of cheaper restaurants in easy walking distance or you can take the free shuttle bus down the hill to the town centerYou might think, not ideal with children, but we had the small childrens pool to ourselves a large part of the time. The large pool was not crowded or noisy either. Our nine year old had a fantastic day on The Kinder Adventure at Loro Parque (the local zoo) 15mins by car.

Loro Parque is brilliant, we all went as a family aswell and had a great time lots to see and do including shows. You get a great view of the animals. We got soaked at the whale show but we didn't mind, it was quite refreshing on a hot day. There are plenty of places to get a drink or icecream and restaurants too. Plenty of toilets too.

A word of warning! we arrived in our hire car to find the car park full and were directed up a side road by some guys who appeared to work for the Park. THEY DO NOT! When we had parked one of the asked me for 5 Euros, I asked 'What for?' as there were no signs or parking restrictions, he asked again, I now felt a bit intimidated but replied again 'What for?' this time he backed down and we went to the Parque wondering whether we would return to a damaged hire car, but all was well on our return. There must be quite a few people who just pay to make it worth their while, a nice little earner if you pay.
But please don't be put off, Loro Parque is a must do. It is not expensive by Taxi and there is a little train that runs from the middle of town outside (dare I say it ) MacDonalds. If you have no car.
Will be going again, I'm sure.

This was my third visit to the Hotel and my wife's second. I first visited with my parents way back in 1976 (!) and my wife and I came here in 2007 with our kids who were then 10 and 8. It was great then and this time just the two of us for a restful week. This really is a 5* plus hotel. But what makes it good is not the general facilities or ambiance but the staff - at all levels. They really make an effort to make you feel welcome and important to them - they were all smiles all the time. If you are looking for a Spa hotel - this is it. The Thai themed spa gardens are deliciously quiet, with relaxing pools and a full range of massage treatments - or you can just slowly enjoy the steam rooms and sauna. For families this is also a good hotel, under 16s cant go to the Spa area but the main pool is a good size and during July and August there is a kids club including excursions to Loro Parque. As a couple having a week while our teenage children enjoyed organised trips abroad elsewhere, this was ideal. We went B&B. The Breakfast is huge. We never had lunch! Evenings were split between the hotel's excellent Italian restaurant (there are three restaurants plus poolside) and local fayre just outside the hotel. All enjoyable. The rooms are comfortable, maybe a little dated but there are plenty of older hotels around the world which have older style rooms. The main foyer and bar area is large with plenty of space and the gardens are great for an after breakfast walk. My only negative which we fed back to the hotel was that the shower (despite being a well known brand) was a bit on the weak side and could be upgraded - but that's being a bit picky. There really is not anything to complain about. Service wise it was comparable to that we have enjoyed in the Far East.
We will be returning!

Room Tip: Double Deluxe rooms facing Mt Teide and the main pool are a good choice, although those with a view...
