“Clean well kept hotel”
Reviewed 2 December 2011

We were worried about our stay in this hotel after reading these reviews here.
We stayed here 14 days in Nov 2011. This clean, well kept, old style hotel has the best location in town. It offers one of the best stays for adults and persons with reduced mobility as Pto Cruz has many stairs, hills and some streets are too narrow.

This hotel has five room categories, please check it from your tour operator or when booking directly from their website.
Non refundable and single rooms are the smallest ones, usually without balcony. There is a change to put two persons for a smallest room.
There are standard double rooms without balcony and with balcony. Both have view either to the pool garden and Teide, depending on the floor situated and or to the sea, boulevard or street next to the hotel. There are also rooms in lobby floor, with direct view and access to the pool area from balcony or to the pedestrian boulevard with no view; only towards ´bush-fence´ and green lawn. Junior suites are best rooms in this hotel with larger balcony and their size is two standard rooms. In all room categories the size and presentation of the room varies.

Pros:

+ Clean, well kept hotel, but old style building.
+ Best location in town, straight access to the pedestrian boulevard.
+ 2-10min walk to restaurants and to the old town, few steps only.
+ Yes, interiors are refurbished but that means only a new paint to the walls and roof.
+ Daily change for sheets and towels.
+ Maids are wonderful. They even wipe balcony and lifts daily.
+ Pool and garden area.
+ Junior suite; if you are unsure about the double room, book this.
+ Two tv´s in junior suite, one with flat lcd tv. Many channels.
+ Staff. If there was something, they did it well for you.
+ Hairdresser, massage, pool-gym.
+ Our stay was mainly peaceful and calm both in room and balcony during 19:00 to 07:00 as guests were mainly seniors.

Cons:

- Street construction! From Nov to the end of March 2012. At av. Familia Betancourt next to the hotel from 07:30 to 19:00. Construction noise affects to the rooms, balconies, pool garden and also these hotels are affected: Beatriz Atlantis, Palmeras Playa, Concordia Playa, Be Live Orotava. Thats why we got discount.
- No access by car to the hotel. You can leave your party to the corner but park your car elsewhere.
- English buffet breakfast, which means fat, fat and fat in various styles. No fresh prepared fruits, but canned fruits. No fresh juice, only machine juice with water and sugar. Bacon, eggs, few cheese and ham, cornflakes, coffee tea from machine. After four days I was fed up this food, and ate less as I hoped to eat healthy options. English people simply love this food. Hint: were Germans are staying, there might be a better breakfast, but I think this is more common in Tenerife.
- Hotel was fully booked, be at breakfast at 08:00 at latest as queue starts from 08:20.
- shower pressure at 9th floor was sometimes weak.
- Breakfast room was mainly noisy.
- English style buffet breakfast, a little healthy options. I learned from my friends who stayed at Adeje, that breakfast was same there. This is Tenerife.
- There were mention about smelly lifts on previous reviews. Lifts are wiped daily, got one time smelly lift, and that smell came from some persons t-shirt which was kept on few days, so not a hotels fault.
- Drinks at bar are not a good quality. E.g. never had a Pina Colada with water, juice and a drop of pina. Almost no alcohol at all. This is for English people liking and due to all-inclusive option. We had only bed and breakfast.
- This hotel could remove their all-inclusive and focus on better food quality both for breakfast and dinner only.

Recommended restaurants in the best order:
Mill Sabores, Kafka, Regulo, Argentino.

Room Tip: Corner Junior Suites are best rooms, e.g x18 where x stands fort floor number. Double rooms to the L...

We recently had a 5 day break in Puerto de la cruz, we chose the H10 hotel tenerife Playa due to its reviews and positioning. Its in a great spot, easy walking distance around Puerto. The Restauarant always provided a good selection of fod, for breakfast and evening meals. All the staff were friendly and helpful. i would definately return to the hotel.

I will admit having read a few reviews after booking my trip i was a tad worried. I need not have been to be honest!

I went on this holiday with my partner and had a mostly lovely time. Although First Choice are never getting my buisiness again!

Upon arival into Tennerife south we were bundled into a mini van on our own with little explanation of what was going on! no rep no time to pick up our transfer home nothing (although this is a problem with First Choice not the hotel or resort so i will move on!)

We were greated by a lovely lady who was very helpful as our room wasnt quite ready we sat outside and had a cocktail or two.

After a hour we were provided with our room key and details and shown to our room. Whilt the room was basic with no fridge which would have been nice it was very clean and tidy and as well as having a air con unit also had some nice big doors so had lots of air through our room.

We went half board although id probibilly not bother as it does tend to be the same most nights and was not at all cheap for drinks compared to one of the other bars. Dispite this food was always hot and i did enjoy the paella. People who moan about the lack of english food should just stay in the UK! over our week stay we ate in the resturant for 3 breakfasts and 3 main meals and i would rate it as a O.K experiance.

The 1st two nights we were at the hotel there was some kind of concert/club night on across the water i belive at the casino but could not tell.. this was some rather horrible repettitive music that went on untill about 12 which would not normally bother me but due to flight times we had been up since 3 am that morning and wanted an early night. Being on the front of the hotel did not help at all! After this had stopped i had some really good nights sleep! and i cant fault the rooms at all!

The entertainment was aimed at the average age group in the hotel 65+ and German! so we went out most nights for walks around the beaches.

The pool very clean although dispite the signs and pool guy sun beds were 90% reserved all day. Not a problem as the salt pools two seconds away were cheap and always free.

The beach was nice but due to this being the north of the island we had overcast greyness or rain all week bar one day. (i realised why EVERYONE on our flight was going south quite early in the week)

We took a trip on a coach to see the island booked with first choice and found this to be a waste of a day we were taken to a little resturant which was sub par and promised a stop off at a little beach (5 minuites did not really count) and a stop in the capital city (1 hour was no where near long enough!) The guide on this trip was great though speaking 4 languages!

Our other big trip was to loro park which we took the free bus too but walked back which took about 40 mins. This was a really nice chilled out trip. The rain had ment that the park wasnt very busy and i would say its a really good way to waste half a day.

Overall i would recomend this trip although i probibilly would not bother going back to Puerto De La Cruz for a full week again. Maybe stay down south in a small resort (not las americas ect ect) and take the bus over!

Well we must be staying in a different hotel to some of the more recent reviewers!

Reception staff very friendly and courteous, diving room staff also smiley and happy.

Food is acceptable and varied so you should be able to find something you like.

For the price, which you should always bear in mind, we can not complain.

Yes so some of the rooms need updating, show me a hotel that doesn't!, But they are clean.

WI-FI, seems to work fine in our room :-)

Complaints, the old towel on beds thing, really should be stamped on, but hey your on holiday so don't stress :-)

Overall no complaints for the money, 4 star? Perhaps not but value for money, yes.

Having read very mixed reports about the Tenerife Playa we were a little worried before we went.No need to be worried!!!Hotel very clean, staff lovely,(they love it if you make an effort to speak Spanish),Food excellant. We upgraded to a room with balcony and sea view looking over the lido.....well recommended.Lido full of filtered sea water and only 8euros for the day which gives you 2 sunbeds, cusions and parasol. We went halfboard so evening meals were included. We did go out a couple of nights to eat...fantastic restaurant for seafood/steaks etc "Regulo" in old town.
No need to take towels as they provide them for swimming also.Only downside is Hotel tends to attract older people so entertainment in evening is poor.Howerver head for the old town(15 minutes walk away).Loads of bars, restaurants to visit.
We went for a week and had 1 cloudy day....still hot though...over 30 degrees most days.

Room Tip: Rooms with balcony facing the lido are best.Even better if you get a corner room looking over bay as...

Apparently there are two hotels with this name , the terrible one , with poor too aweful food , rude unhelpful staff , poor entertainment , etc , and the hotel we stayed at .
On arrival we were given a room we did not want ( we have stayed here for the last seven years ) , so we asked for a room we knew was ideal for us . We were re allocated to where we wanted to be within minutes . There was a problem with the shower , it was looked at quickly, however it took several days to fix ,as it needed a new bath attachment and it was the weekend .
We are members of the H10 Club ,and like someone else we did not get our robe and slippers at once . After complaining to our Rep Julie ( one of the best ) it was sorted out immediately . It was also explained that we had 145 Euros on our clubcard ,and should charge any drinks or food to the room and have the amount spent deducted at the end of our stay . A great bonus to our purse .
Unlike others , our toiletries were replaced when used , and the maids were very friendly and helpful ,
We must admit , in previous years we have eaten out , as the food was never the best . However over the last two years it has improved and this year we ate most of our meals in the hotel . O.K. it is not gourmet standard , and not really English style food , but you are in Spain . If you want English cooking , dont go to a hotel that caters for English ,Spanish ,German .French Italian . As for unhelpful staff in the restaurant , my wife tripped ,and she had not touched the floor before staff were there to help . We always say good morning , thank you and please ,and find this helps to make good relations with staff . Food choices were Steak ,pork chops , chicken ,fish ,veal , rabbit . pasta , spare ribs , sliced hot and cold meats , several salads ,and much more . Breakfast was just as good and with so much choice you need not eat the same meal twice .
The swimming pools are lovely ,and it was great watching the daily pool work out . other activities included , darts , rifle , shooting , archery , boulles , shuffleboard and water polo .
On a nightime there were magic shows Canarian , Spanish African dance shows ,bingo , quiz and games nights .
What do some holidaymakers want ? If you want " little England " with sunshine , go to Las Americas , if you want mainly Spanish experience , Puerto de la Cruz .
The English pay £ 600 + for their holiday , which includes , air fare , tansfer to hotel , two meals a day . entertainment & almost guarenteed sunshine for two weeks .What would you get back home ? I would recomend this hotel to anyone ,but dont confuse the Spanish 4 Star hotels with Englih 4 star .

We have been travelling to this area, on and off, for twenty years but have not at this hotel, and were somewhat apprenhensive after reading reviews on Tripadvisor. But we need not have worried. The authors can't have stayed at the same place that we did. The hotel was very clean, the meals were good, and all the staff were pleasant and helpful. When we wanted the fridge installed, and when a minor repair was necessary, this was all attended to within half an hour. Our room was very pleasant, overlooking the garden and pools, the beds were very comfortable, with sheets changed every other day, and it was kept spotless by the chambermaids. The restaurant is on the first floor, light and air-conditioned, with a wonderful view of the sea and the surfers. The service there was very good, and we were most impressed with the way the maitre d' managed the seating when the everyone decided to go into breakfast at the same time. If you do miss breakfast, served until 10 a.m., there is a bistro in the garden which serves toast, drinks, ice cream, etc.

The only things out of sorts were the bathrooms, which needed updating, but they were kept spotless, and the water was always hot. Also the evening entertainment was not to our taste, but there are plenty of places to go outside the hotel. Do go to Molly Malones, which is superb. It is a large cellar bar, owned and run by a professional musician, where other musicians from all over the world drop in and perform. You never know what will happen, some nights only holiday makers will perform, though many of these are very talented, other nights it may be a professional drummer from New York, or a talented singer from anywere in Europe, if you are lucky you will catch the rose seller, who is also a very good singer from Chile. Des himself, the owner, is a superb performer, with a genuine warmth and charm, as well as being a fine musician.

Yes, we will return to this hotel, we enjoyed our stay and were well looked after. By the way, if you have your camera, do seek out the 10th floor, where there are some wonderful views of the bay, the Lido, and the whole of Puerto.

Room Tip: from the 4th floor and above are the best views, but the rooms overlooking the gardens are very pret...
