Stayed here for one week, all-inclusive in April 2013. Really smart and welcoming hotel. Excellent and prompt service from all staff. Food was lovely, buffet style to suit all tastes with a chef cooking on griddles (various meats eg. pork, chicken, beef, stir-fry and also eggs etc. for breakfast)., the dining room had ceiling to floor windows all along with panoramic views of the sea which was only a stone's throw away. Our room was clean and spacious, we had a three bedded room (looked like a suite) with plenty of storage room. There were a few very good professional shows in the evenings and the cocktails were lovely too! Pool area was attractive (one of the pools heated) the hotel provided pool towels, however we spent two afternoons in the lagoon opposite the hotel, 4.50 euros each and it was beautiful in there, well worth going. From the hotel you can walk all the way along the promenade on the flat, it is lined with good shops and restaurants and is a very pretty area. Further along the promenade there is a free yellow tourist road train which takes you to Loro park (about 10 mins journey). I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone, young old and families.

Having read some of the glowing reviews of this hotel I ask myself "who wrote this? The hotel position is excellent but, that aside, the Tenerife Playa failed to please in any respect. First impression: reception staff were far more interested in chatting among themselves than helping guests. Our dining experience did not improve our mood. Waiting staff consisted of four "suits" - two bouncers on the door and two floor walkers - and three/four waiters doing all the work. One unfortunate, with the temerity to complain about lack of warm plates, found himself harassed for the rest of his stay (tables suddenly became reserved, water not served et.c) One old lady was even reduced to tears because she did not know how to get water with her meal. On one occasion I watched a waitress stick out her tongue behind a guest who got in her way.
I HAVE NEVER BEFORE STAYED AT A HOTEL WITH SUCH RUDE STAFF!
Food quality was average, show cooked food was much better but so badly organised that it was impossible to get hot meat and hot veg. on the same plate. The queue to get into the dining room (avoid by arriving early) is horrendous. If you really want to make the bouncer's day mislay your room ticket, they love to turn people away. I could go on but why bother - I won't be going there again - ever.

We did not enjoy the "friendlyness" of the staff and the smell that came to our room when we opened the balcony door. Most of the guests were above 60, the breakfast buffet was crowded, altogether the impression to us was somewhat disastrous. Sorry to say: we did not enjoy it. The pool is nice though. No fitness center, no kids´activities.

Room Tip: We liked Appartementos Los Roques in Los Realejos.

Just returned from spending two weeks at the Tenerife Playa and have to say it was a mixed bag, the hotel is in a fabulous position right on the pedestrian promenade 50m from the sea and easy walking distance to shops and bars. The staff were very good, very busy and friendly, the downstairs bar and pool area terrace pleasant and comfortable. We asked for a high level room with a sea view and this is what we had, however there were niggling little things, chipped furniture and paint work a handle that came off one of the drawers and was still off when we left, good room, just tired and in need of an update.
The food was plentiful with a good choice but not overly exciting, the live cooking in the evenings tended to have more flavour, but the breakfasts were plain boring, the same selection with minor variations each morning and waiting in line for the coffee machine was a bind.
The evening entertainment was, with some notable exceptions, bland, and why oh why did the compere have to hand out "certificates" for the days activities before artists came on, after sitting thru 15 minutes of her presenting "certificates" in a forced grating jolly voice it hardly put you in the mood for any entertainment. it's true that the majority of the guests, especially on the first week were ,like ourselves, over 60 but would still prefer entertainment that didn't include bingo and games!
Good but could have been a lot better.

Just had a lovely week at this hotel with my sister and niece. Hotel was lovely and clean, pool was lovely especially with one of them being heated. Staff were friendly and helpful. Wanted to bring my bed and pillows home as they were so comfy. Food was again lovely. Great selection every day and something for everyone. The only thing I would say is that it is a hotel that is used by Saga and whilst this did not affect us as we were looking for a restful holiday, it is not somewhere I would recommend teenagers who are looking for a lively nightlife to go. Perfect though for a restful holiday or a family with young children. The restaurants along the front were again very good and the beach was just over the road and great for those who want to surf.

Had a great week and somewhere I will defintely visit again.

There is so much which is good about this hotel that it feels churlish to only give it 3 blobs - the location is fantastic, being on an attractive pedestrian promenade, with plenty of shops, bars, etc and attractive flower beds, trees and sitting areas. You hear nothing but the sea and pan pipes from the nearby cafe when you go to sleep and the dawn chorus joins the waves in the morning. The staff are very friendly, hardworking and helpful. But the rooms are quite small and in need of minor repairs - doors which don't shut properly, a shower head which droops - I'm sure they would have dealt with these things if we had complained, but we did not want to be bothered with being disturbed by workmen while on holiday and made do. They really should be checking such things between guests.
My biggest cause for the 'average' rating was the food. For a 3 Star hotel, this would be quite good, but for a 4Star hotel, it should have been better. On the plus side, there is lots of choice, the dishes on the buffet are quickly replenished and even the latest guests had the full complement of dishes to choose from. But tinned peaches, pears, pineapple and fruit salad for breakfast everyday, with limited and rather uninspiring fresh fruit is really not on for a 4Star hotel. The pastries looked good but had a cheap fat taste, over-loaded by sugar. The fruit juice is from a nozzle which squirts a concentrate followed by water. It is very acidic, partially disguised by lots of sugar. There was 'fresh juice' - about the thickness of a heavy cream soup and made out of any fruit they had to hand, I think. As I don't like bananas which were probably one of the main ingredients, and I prefer to drink my juice, not eat it, I left this. The 'fruit' yoghurts also taste synthetic. And I found the coffee undrinkable. I took my own Kenco instant in and used their hot water and UHT milk. The bacon and eggs were good, as were the cheeses and salamis but I did not find the frankfurters (?tinned) or other cooked stuff very tempting.
For the evening meal, the salads were excellent, the soup OK and the desserts quite good. But I did not enjoy any of the main course dishes I tried. I cook using little or no salt and their addiction to smothering everything with it made most of the food taste awful. I tried a curry, in the hope of it actually having some flavour other than salt, but any spices were lost in a warm seawater taste. There are salt pots on every table which could be used as an alternative to this over-dosing. The broccoli was boiled to a soft pap, the carrots were limp (probably out of a tin and boiled for a long time) and even the asparagus had no particular flavour, it had been subjected to such overcooking. The fish was almost invariably hake or tilapia - again covered in salt.
So, I ate well on salads and bypassed most of the cooked food.
It certainly did not spoil the holiday, but it was a daily irritation. I have been to other 4Star hotels where the buffets have used good ingredients, well-cooked. With a little less penny-pinching on quality and better trained chefs, this could have been so much better. But then there seems to be an inexhaustible supply of tourists and presumably they are not too bothered about a few grumpy reviews.
For the first half of our stay, the hotel population looked to be about 99% over 50 and most of those over 65. As part of the latter category, this did not bother us, but we can see that younger people might feel a bit outnumbered. However, in the days approaching Good Friday, families and young couples arrived and the feeling of being in a geriatric home was lost! It did also begin to feel rather over-crowded, especially around the pool, where, in spite of the 'rule' that people should not 'bag' sun beds at dawn, all the beds had towels by 11am, yet there was only a handful of people in or around the pool. I pointed out this anomaly to a lifeguard who tried hard not to understand the point I was making. This really is an issue which the hotel management should control. Guests do not want to get into arguments with each other, or start another world war by removing unused towels!

Room Tip: Higher floors have good views
