“Excellent hotel, a great holiday!”
Reviewed 5 September 2010

My boyfriend and I stayed in the H10 Tenerife Playa during the first two weeks of August 2010. We booked and flew with Thomas Cook. The transfer from airport to the hotel was just under 2 hours, and we arrived at 1am. The receptionist was very helpful and checked us in quickly.
We soon found that the hotel was popular with couples and the older generation however there were some families. The swimming pools and Jacuzzi were all very clean and a life guard was present all day. Entertainment was also laid on throughout the day; this included aqua aerobics, table tennis, and tennis.
The rooms in the hotel were cleaned every day and to a very high standard. The communal areas were also very clean. All staff at the hotel were very friendly and willing to help.
Although the hotel offers an all-inclusive package, we chose to book half board which suited us as we were often out all day. The food at the hotel was good, especially breakfast. There was a wide variety of hot and cold foods, including pancakes and omelettes cooked to order on the griddle. Dinner also offered a wide variety however; much of the food was traditional Spanish cuisine which doesn’t always suit everyone.
The hotel is in a very good location, opposite the Lido and only 10 minutes’ walk from the town. There are many restaurants and bars only yards from the hotel. Our favourite being La Bodega (best for pizza and steak!). The waiters were all very friendly and the service was excellent.
Whilst in Puerto de la Cruz we visited Mount Teide, Loro Parque and the surrounding areas. The boat trips and Siam Park were in the south of the island and took about 1 hour 30 to travel to. Loro Parque is a must! The dolphins and Orca Whales were excellent and shouldn’t be missed!
Overall, the hotel and location is very good. We didn’t feel that it was tired as previous reviews state. The weather was a little hit and miss while we were there but was always warm and when the sun was out it was very hot! Excellent holiday!

Me and my 6 year old son stayed in this hotel for to nigths. We got a lovely room with seaview.

The hotel is located rigth at the promenade. Opposite the well known leisure lake “Lago Martiánez".

Our purpose with the stay was to visit Loro Parque. ( going back there too )

Just wish we could have stayed longer......but we are sure going back and this is the hotel that we stay in!

Good service and food :o)

The staff are great at the H10 - from the cleaners to the animation team to the management, everyone is very polite. The place is also generally clean throughout - lots of cleaning staff, cleaning. The location is great too - it's right on the sea front opposite the excellent lido. However, the rooms are small, the furniture is old and tired; if you have a room not opposite the sea front it can be quite noisy; the art work is old and often decrepid; the food is perhaps the worst i have ever tasted in a hotel also. There is simply not enough choice; it is often bland (it all tasted the same) it is too salty (MSG??)there were no themed food nights - it was all the same more or less every morning and evening. Perhaps the worst thing about the food also, was the temp of it - or lack of it. It was simply luke warm most of the time, which i complained to the manager about. His response was to look at his watch (9pm and the bufffet closed at 10pm) and say "what do you expect?" We had a bug which lasted 4 days! However, perhaps the most telling thing about this hotel is the lack of atmosphere around the hotel itself and the resort. I think the hotel and the resort have seen better days, many an evening we were astonished by the lack of people walking along the promenade -day and night. Similary, at the bar of an evening, there was a tangible lack of atmosphere - i never ever had to wait to be served or queue up for anything and this was Easter week!!! I know some people really enjoyed their stay and the food and the resort because you could see it in their faces and fair play to them for that. However, you only have to see the lack of any activity on the trip advisor forums to see that this resort has had its day - even an expat brit told us as much in a local bar one evening. We are a couple of thirty somethings and this hotel and resort is not really for people of this age group - there's very little to do. There is no real charm about the place - it's all very spanish seaside resort from the 70's. Ok, there are some nice bus journeys out to nice canarian towns but after a while they all look the same. Sorry but on the basis of this holiday i will be giving spain a miss for a while.

Great Hotel. Puerto De La Cruz is a lovely resort unlike the South of the Island. Hotel was in a Great Location, right by the lagoon and the beach. Food was OK....Sparkiling wine at breakfast was a big thumbs up !! Used to make the most of the hotels happy hour between 6 - 7. Staff were so friendly and weather was great for November. Would recommend and hope to return for another winters break.

As a frequent traveler, I must indicate that after a two week stay, I can definitely say that I will not return there. Location is great, however, some of the services lack a lot to be desired. Ruthness by front desk staff, tasteless food, a lot of signs and responses about what guests can not do or go (e.g. given, do not take towels away from hotel, whereas with the limited weight on airlines, the packing of own towels is not very practical. Room space in comparison to what appears on the hotel's internet site is highly dramatized.
I must say, house keeping staff were very efficient and courteous. Rooms were tight space and not in standards of a four star hotel.

We stayed as an extended family group (parents, two sons and their girlfriends) ages ranged from early twenties to mid-fifties.
We had a great time at this hotel. The boys had been with their parents before, but neither girlfriend had been to Tenerfife before at all.
The location is fantastic, right on the beach front, and walking distance to all the bars and shops in the lovely old town area.
The rooms were basic, and probably a little dated, the whole upstairs of the hotel could do with a bit of updating, but this doesn't mean that there's anything wrong with it. Our room was always clean and tidy when we came back in the afternoons. The airconditioning unit is obviously very old, as it's so noisy. My boyfriend and I are sound sleepers and managed to sleep with it on all night, but I know others in our group had to switch it off at night, which would have made it too warm for me.
The food was ok, by no means michelin standard, and by the end of the week it was all getting pretty repetitive. Having said that though, we were on half board, which is excellent value and we always ate well. There were also plenty of vegetarian options and there was a different special each night which was cooked to order. I also loved the cold soups!
The bar had a buy one get one free offer on at around 5pm each evening when we were there, which was excellent value, particularly as Tenerife measures seem to be however much the barman fancies pouring in the glass which is usually a lot!
The pools were brilliant. There was one heated, which the Spaniards seemed to favour, and another unheated which was perfect for cooling off in. Do be careful of the pool attendant, if you put your towels down before breakfast, don't expect them to still be on your loungers when you come down! However, if you're good to him, he's good to you. Just don't take advantage and you'll be fine.
The area is great, we didn't really do much, this was a relaxation holiday more than anything else, and we were happy to spend most of the day by the pool and just go out for a wander and a couple of drinks in the evening.
We did go to Loro Parque one day which is definitely worth the trip - take the free train/bus which leaves form the centre of town, I think every 20 minutes or so. Get there early in the morning as the queues will be quite big. It's a full day out, but definitely worth it - the whale and dolphin shows were just as good as Sea World in Florida, and infact one of the whales they have there is Shamu's baby!
I would come back, definitely. But I can imagine that in the height of summer it would be a lot busier, and more people clammoring for space in the pool - if you can, steer clear of the school holidays. When we went it was mostly couples over 40/50, which didn't bother us at all - meant we had a great peaceful and quiet holiday!

It was my second visit to this hotel and I was pleased to discover that it is still a delight.
It has the best location in Puerto de la Cruz, right opposite the lido. The service is excellent and the staff are efficient and helpful. I emailed the hotel before our visit and they immediately responded, reserving a disabled room and ensuring that a meal was prepared for our late arrival.
The food is plentiful, with lots of variety and the dining room is delightful.
The rooms were of a high standard with a very good cleaning service and all three of our rooms had lovely sea views.
The evening entertainment was good, with a very pleasant indoor and outdoor bar area.
The pool area has been redesigned since my last visit, so that there are now two large pools, one of which is heated.
I can only find words of praise for this hotel and I would recommend it to everyone, although it might not be quite so appealing to families with young children, as it attracts a lot of middle-aged people.
We had a wonderful holiday and I hope to visit the Tenerife Playa again soon.
