There are lots of hills in Peurto de la Cruz, but when it's only 3 Euros to get a Taxi to the coast does it really matter? The area this hotel is situated in is beautiful, you're up in the hills of the region a 2 min stroll to some really lovely bars and restaurants ( I recommend the pizza place just to the side of the 25 supermarket, 5 euros for a pizza big enough to feed at least 4, and their seafood is AMAZING)

The hotel rooms are basic, but tidy, clean and well maintained. in our room was a two ring hob, coffee maker/kettle and a fridge, which was all we needed. there are two pools, as was mentioned before. we went in early september 2011 and had the pool of the smaller building practically to ourselves and managed to toast ourselves bronze in privacy. The pool isn't olympic size, probably around 20ft by 8ft, but it'd lovely and deep and I managed to get some 'propper swimming' done. The check out staff can be a little brisk, but I think that's mostly due to the language barrier rather than any rudeness.

Oh and be warned that this is very much a German tourist area, we had no issue with towel placements or rudeness, but many of to locals know German rather than english, nothing a little pointing and basic spanish won't help with.

This was a relaxing trip for two friends finishing their degree, so we didn't tour the island very much, but I do have a few recommendations, the zoo, Loco Park is very good fun, their dolphin show great for kids and their aquarium is mesmerizing. The national botanic gardens ( a 5 min walk away) are lovely and worth a visit. Buy some lace whilst your there too, take it from a textiles graduate, you won't get anything finer. And make sure you have a cocktail or three at the bar overhanging a cliff, you'll know it when you see it.

Room Tip: From what I know all rooms are lovely, but in the larger building the rooms on the south side have a...

The Carabela apartments are clean, adequate and ok for the price. Some of the staff are friendly but others struggle to say good morning. The apartments are situated in a quiet part of town about 15 minutes from the seafront and main bars. The old and the idle should be aware that it is up a small hill but not as steep as some of the reviews would have you believe.

The kitchen was poorly equipped with only a 2 ring hob and a fridge. There was no Kettle, no Toaster and no Microwave. The selection of pots and pans was adequate but I had to buy a couple of G and T glasses.

There was no TV in the room (Not that I wanted one) but there was one in the reception area.

The Apartment was cleaned every day but Sunday to a good standard and towels were changed.

There are 2 swimming pools but they are very small and not much use for any serious swimming but ok for a cooling dip.

If you are taking a Laptop, the hotel supplies wi-fi for 2 euros a day but the reception is poor. There are better quality free wi-fi connections around the town.

I was self catering so didn’t use the restaurant facilities or bar.

Stay here if your fit. Peurto de la Cruz has a lot of hills and staying at this hotel puts your legs to the test, unless you taxi everywhere. The avantage of all these hillside hotels, you get good views over the city and too the mountain.
La Carabella was fine for us. Tidy room with balcony overlooking the pool and Mount Teide. If you can, book one of the rooms on the end of floors 2,3,4. As they have a wrap around balcony so you can sunbath all day.
Dont use the internet in the hotel foyer. It's costly and slow and often freezes out. Go down to the city center, there are some nice and cheaper internet cafes.

I was booked in La Carabela Apts. in February, hired a car at the airport, and found the place on a 1 way street with great difficulty after asking several people.
La Carabela moved me on to the Pez Azul, about 1/2 a mile away saying there was a problem with the room and the Pez was another of their hotels.
This was fortunate as it was obvious that parking anywhere near La Carabela Was a no-no.
I can't obviously do a proper review of La Carabela, other than to say they are unreliable, and if you have or intend to hire a car for heaven's sake avoid the place!

We originally booked into the Park Plaza Apartments near Plaza del Charco for Christmas as it was very central. On arrival we discovered that both apartments were without a balcony as requested and none would be available for the duration of our stay so we asked if we could move somewhere else. We ended up at La Carabela apartments. This was further out of the town near the Jardin Botanico but had beautiful gardens and a great view of Mount Teide.
The rooms were kept very clean and had everything except perhaps a kettle! Breakfast was included and although it wasn't a full English it was subsantial - cheese, ham, eggs, cereal, breads, fruit etc. We were very near a Spar supermarket which had everything we needed and there were lots of decent restaurants and bars nearby. Our favourite was the Tiroler Alm - a German restaurant which served delicious, huge portions and was incredibly cheap - about 32 euros for 3 main courses including drinks. We were still within walking distance of the centre of Puerto de la Cruz but as we had a 79 year old with us - walking back (uphill) was not an option. We have done it before however and it's possible!
Everywhere was closed Christmas Eve after about 7:00pm which is the main celebration for the locals.
Christmas day was business as usual around Plaza del Charco. We had a magnificent lunch in Regalo's - superb wild boar steaks.
Hotel didn't lay on anything and only occupants seemed to be a few elderly Spanish and German travellers.
Rooms were kept spotless and cleaners came in everyday except Sunday.
Weather was mainly hot during the day but surprisingly cold at night - no heating in the hotel. We ended up putting the hotplates on every morning to warm us up!

Myself, son daughter and daughter's partner stayed at La Carabela this year in August. The hotel is in two parts, we stayed in the smaller block which comprised of around 15 apartments. To the side of our apartments there was a small pool that many of the residents didnt know existed, it was situated in a beautiful garden, so it felt like our own private pool. The rooms were of a good size and my view from the balcony had breathtaking views of Mount Teide when the clouds cleared. We were on the 2nd floor and although the road was below our balcony we never found it noisy, only when a coach would be picking up people for trips. My daughter's room was to the rear of the hotel and although they didnt have the views that I had they did have a view of the pretty gardens. The hotel also has a second part which consists of a larger complex with another pool, as I didnt stay in that part I cant comment on their rooms but I imagine they would have been of the same quality and good views. The maid cleaned and changed our linen every day apart from Saturdays.
The hotel mainly caters for Germans and older Spanish people, we were the only British in the hotel. The hotel restaurant seemed to cater for the German palate but there are many good value places to eat. I did most of my own cooking as there were many good value supermarkets in the area, the was a Spar very close to the rear of the hotel which stocked everything you would need. There wasnt a kettle in the room or microwave but a pan boiled very quickly on the electric hobs. When we booked the holiday the website indicated that there was satellite tv in the rooms but when we checked-in we found this wasnt so, on request I believe you could ask for the use of a portable tv but it would only have Spanish speaking channels but not far from the hotel there's a bar called the Beehive and he has large screen tv if anyone wants to watch footie etc. The walk down to the beach is all downhill and around 1km, the walk back to the hotel is not for the faint-hearted but it kept us fit. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and our only complaint was that we didnt want to leave Puerto de la Cruz as it is a beautiful resort
