“Awful !”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2014

This was our first visit to Tenerife and we were really looking forward to our holiday. Worst luck our holiday was ruined by staying at this hotel. The food was very basic and the same for every meal. Everything was tepid just like the bath and basin water. Drinks were served in a plastic cup from the bar, if you could find one open to get any. There was no entertainment most of the week. One night there was a pianist who played a couple of tunes then put on a cd. Staff are unhappy and not enough of them. The absence of the mini bus meant walking down a lot of steps to the seafront or pay for a taxi. The rooms were cold. The girls on reception were ok but the man was grumpy. The cleaning staff were nice and friendly and kept the room tidy. Never going back!!

We last stayed at the Miramar in Sept last year, they changed owners (or rather it has been leased to Elegance Hotel Group for 5 years) in the July. What a difference!! We have been going to the Miramar for nearly 25 years, sometimes we even went 3 times a year, it was always where our kids chose because they loved it so much. NOT ANYMORE.

The change has been terrible, we feel so sorry for Magdalena (previous owner) and the staff, who by the way are all lovely, each with their quirky personalities, most of which have been at the hotels since they were boys.

We hate all inclusive as it destroys resorts by people not going out and using local shops and bars.

The standard of the food has changed, we didn't get carrots for breakfast like you get now, weird! The rooms are still kept very clean, but the towels now leave a lot to be desired. The grounds and the pool area are still lovely, but we didn't like the fact that the pool bar was shut for a couple of hours over lunch so that the barman had to go and help serve the lunches for the all inclusive guests, also no pool snack available anymore for the few who remain on half board. Also can understand plastic cups at pool, but they are so small and cheap that when you pick up your drink it sloshes over the top. BUT WHY do you also have to have your drinks on an evening out of the same things in the lounge which you also now have to queue up for?? It used to be so nice to be served at your table or you could walk up to the bar and be served drinks in glasses. If you're half board and paying full pops for your drinks you do get glass and you also get better branded drinks.

This chain has also taken over the Dania and the Palmeras Playa in the resort and the rates for all 3 have plummetted.

We really loved going to the Miramar, it was like a second home, we are on first name terms with the staff and we used to meet the same people who have become friends over the years and some of them are in the same mind as us and unfortunately we will not return until things are much better. It is such a shame as this was a lovely hotel, old fashioned maybe, but we went for the peace and quiet and simplicity.

Dear guest,

We're really sorry about your last experience. As you have to know, Miramar is now part of a new chain of hotels named Elegance. There are a lot of changes and step by step we want to be much better than the previous hotel.

I invite you come back in the future and hope your experience will be better than this.

Many thanks about your comments and best regards!

Our experience reflects most recent reviews.Reception is a struggle because the man, who seems to hold a senior position has made an art of ignoring you. After handing our key card he pointed, with head down, towards a portal in the wall. There were only stairs down and as we were on 2nd floor it was confusing. We then found a lift (of sorts) tucked behind stairs. We saw a couple who had been on our bus(mini) from airport walking about with their luggage. They were looking for their 3rd room! The previous two were occupied! It was cold at night and we asked for extra blankets. As it was cold next night we asked for heating but we're told this was not possible. As half board guests we found service system poor as we needed vouchers for everything including water. The cancellation of the town bus shuttle by the new owners is poor as it curtails town visits. The vast majority of guests are Seniors, and many using this hotel over many years so it is difficult to see the logic, apart from saving a few Euros, of this. The views are stunning but this hotel is tired and jaded. With a little effort by owners, it could be truly 3 star. I wonder if Thomas Cook check the reviews as the agency I booked with thought the shuttle bus was still on! Loved the resort. Different hotel next time.

We have stayed 11 times here but after the change of ownership in 2013 we wont be back. We could not believe the changes. They have ruined this beautiful hotel. The food is poor and the staff are overworked The old staff who are still there are fine but the new staff are unhelpful particularly the girls on reception. We were put in the most appalling room, despite the fact that it was our eleventh visit. All we could see from the balcony was a dark bush.It took the girls on reception 4 days to get us moved and all they kept saying was tomorrow. There used to be a caring family atmosphere where clients were treated with respect but no longer. They have changed the meal times which totally upskittled how we spend our evenings.

This is not a good hotel The young ladies on reception were pleasant, how ever the man who booked us in was not. The bedrooms are are very tired and dated with stained carpet on the floor and carpet part of the way up the walls! The dining room staff like the reception staff some were pleasant some were not. The choice of food was very limited and the choice of deserts was terrible. If you want to go on holiday and not have to worry about puting on any weight this is the place for you. There was no information given when we arrived, we were half board and usually the dining room staff take your room number get you to sign and your drinks are charged at the end of the week, not here you go to the dining room only to find you should have bought a ticket at the desk.

I stayed for eleven nights in mid January 2014. The hotel is fairly well appointed but the staff have been reduced to a minimum and are working very long hours and hence an ill tempered lot but if you make the effort to be polite and engage with them they are ok.
The hotel is about fifteen minutes walk from the town and adjacent to the Taoro Park. However the walk includes a climb of about 260 steps. The new management company ended the minibus service in the interests of economy along with various other services to the extent that people with money to spend we're unable to do so.
Fully inclusive guests are obliged to wear a wristband and are served their drinks in plastic cups. One lady was so annoyed that she bought her own glasses at the supermarket.
The hotel is cheap when it could just be inexpensive.
The buffet is canteen style in presentation and atmosphere. And cheap.
Having said all of this it represents good value for money and isn't a bad base for a holiday if you would like to enjoy the quiet locality and the company of lots of mainly German fellow guests.

Elegance Miramar Hotel
Where do you start,Reception the dress code of the majority of the staff here tells it's own story, jeans,Tee shirts,Smoking. Some of the staff on the reception are extremely unhelpful to the point of ignorance and arrogance.Mostly using the excuse that they do not understand English. The hotel has a virtual manager so unless you have a suitable pair of goggles forget trying to talk to him. They seem to find it enjoyable to make guests feel inferior. The rooms are quite good if a little dated and are cleaned every day.The cleaning,Dining room and Bar staff are mostly pleasant and efficient bearing in mind the pressure they are under from the new management. The restaurant is at busy times absolute chaos,1coffee machine was out of use for 6 days resulting in queues of over 20 people at times,on a regular basis no cups, saucers, plates, cereal bowls or soup bowls.Food has never been brilliant but was always adequate, but now could only rated has a 1star at most, there have been times where it has been I edible and always cold.Breakfast, roasted peppers Aubergines and carrots, fried eggs that that could be used as ice hockey pucks, tinned sausage.2 toasters 1takes 6 minutes the other 10 to toast a slice of bread, most of the food is cold within minutes of being put out overall very poor.If you are all inclusive you can not get a drink of any sort between 1pm+2.30pm as the pool bar is closed,no snacks or ice creams available at all,if you are all inclusive drinks are served in flimsy plastic glasses, hot drinks in polystyrene cups, even on all inclusive you have to buy bottled water.Heated pool no chance the water is freezing.Entertainment is on twice a week,1 night is an organist who plays and sings a few songs in Spanish, the other night is what only be described as a demented children's entertainer, who from 8.30 to 11pm plays a trumpet for around 10 minutes and the rest of the time stands behind an organ dancing and waving his arms to C.D's.The 1 redeeming feature is the views and surroundings they are stunning probably the best in Puerto, that appart this is now at stretch a 2 star hotel ,virtually everyone has said they would never visit again
