Reviewed 2 April 2014

We booked this hotel as part of a group for a week from march 25th. It is a large hotel with 350 rooms, seemed to be full of people on all inclusive tours and Spanish people on long stay holidays. Definitely the clientele were mostly pensioners and had all the appearances of having chosen the hotel as a post operative rest home.

The rooms were basic and as it was cold we had to ask for extra blankets. The fridge originally was not working but they fixed it, a day later it leaked all over the floor.
Rooms were clean and cleaned efficiently every day.

Mealtimes were like a scrum in the enormous lack lustre dining room. There were long queues for anything that was being cooked freshly and in the morning for the coffee and juice machines.
It felt a bit like a free for all or a school refectory. Soup/cereal bowls were plastic!!!!

The pool area was in the process of being resurfaced so a large section of the sunbed area was closed off. The pool itself was a good one although a little cold.
There was an indoor pool with a charge.
The size of the spa area was really small in proportion to the size of the hotel. The gym was free.

There was free wifi in the lobby from 1 to 3 in the afternoon. I paid for 3 days connection (our guide said it was 72 hours but it wasn't) and could still only get connected in the lobby areas.
All in all it was a problem.

On the plus side, the hotel is in a good location with easy access to the beach. Staff were efficient and friendly.

Room Tip: Get a sea view room. I think the 6th floor is more exclusive with a special lift, may be more ex...

we spent 3 weeks here so know what it is like. The rooms are tired and shabby ,cutains hanging of rail and grubby, marked walls ,faded chairs ect.First room had a sea view but a busy road under window,we did not unpack(it was late at night) .Next morning asked for a change, staff helpful and later in day got a quiet room.Decore shabby in new room. There was a small fridge which was good. The maids are good and clean well ,there is plenty of towels and toiletries.Food is good and bad,First the good fresh bread every meal ,salad fresh, lots of fresh fruit, some nice fish and good soup, potatos ok to. The meat dishes were so tastless mostly pork or chicken. The rabbit and duck was so overcooked it was tastless. The vegatables were mostly frozen ,all veg soft and well done, sprouts were dreadfull cooked to death. The desserts were jelly yogurt icecream and 2 fluffy cakes(sponge with lots of mock cream) or 1 fluff cake and a leathery fruit slice. Once a week they have a selection of desserts which is nice but only once a week.
Breakfast the eggs are good grilled tomatos good bacon awfull greasy floppy streaky, the sausages are chopped up frankfurter type in hot water. They will make a omelette which is best option. Plenty of yogurt and continental ok, cheese and ham salad and some rather dry little cakes. there is plenty of jam and honey but the ceareals are poor coco pops cornflakes and muselie (poor quality) teabags awfull need 3 to get a decent cuppa. One of the worst things is the lack of condments on table,so every time you have to remember to pick up a small pack of salt pepper and tomatoe or brown sauce.
We only spoke to 2 lts of Brits in 3 weeks, lots of Germans and Spanish ect.You do not need smart clothes in this hotel ,most of things we took remaind unworn as we would have been overdressed. The best thing about hotel is its location , it is only 15 mins walk to the nice town and a few mins walk to the lovely promenade. There is no garden but plenty of sunbeds round pool, and the little childrens play area was very nice.
I must mention the lighting in bedrooms is so dim it is grim,we did ask for a extra light but no joy.
This hotel is not a 4 star by any means, but it has some good things, the smartest part is reception area it it very smart and shiny.
This is a very honest review .

Room Tip: Go for top floor as there is no carpets so every scrape and footstep is heard.

Booked this hotel as part of a Travel Dept holiday from 25th Feb to 4th Mar 2014
Location is excellent, town etc within walking distance of hotel.
Service was good and staff very friendly.
Bedroom could do with a lick of paint. Our room was perfect for us viz spacious , adjacent to diningroom etc., beds were good , room and bathroom cleaned daily.
Food was not cordon bleu but selection was very good.
Overall we had a very relaxing and interesting holiday.

Room Tip: Get a pool view.

After reading the reviews we were worried about what we would find and were pleasantly surprised. We found the food good, there was plenty of choice of both meats and fish, It is a very Spanish hotel so the mealtimes are noisy and busy at times but the staff coped well. The attitude of the staff was fine, I think if you are polite then they are also!! The rooms were quite tired but clean . We had one overlooking the sea, a great view and large balcony. The ones overlooking the pool got the winter sun, our one faced north. The Wifi was very poor, I paid for 30 minutes connection but couldn´t get connected. There are no Wifi cafes around to go to either.
Overall a good experience, not the best but certainly not the worst.

A large hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Excellent food served in a busy restaurant. Rooms are clean, but could do with a refresh. Pool area large, showing its age with worn tiles and furniture, loungers were being replaced when we were there. A good location for everything we needed.

Went 27/12/2013 to Tenerife with group of bridge players. The hotel was very shabby with old fashioned facilities and all the furnishings in the room damaged and crummy.
No tea or coffee facilities and no free in-room safe.
All the meals were in a very large congested 'cafeteria' with only one serving area. Long queues to get checked into dining room and lots of standing around with plate in hand trying to get at the food. No waiter service at all just table clearers all of whom were overworked and looked underpaid. Cutlery didn't match and soup served in plastic bowls.
Hotel located about twenty minutes from centre but close to bus station.
don't go there unless you just use it as a base to travel around the beautiful island

Room Tip: A room overlooking the pool has a pleasant aspect.

Young couple on a full board and loved every bit of it. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were delicious.. There was always something tasty on the buffet. I especially loved their Croquetas and would reccommend trying them. Wines were decent and went well with food, cocktails at the bar meant strong business.

It was buzzing with guests of all ages and ethnicities. And by the way, the retired were the most fun! Pool table, live music, loads of activities. We didn't try the spa but went swimming in the outdoor pool. Long walks by the sea front are a must...the winter waves were breathtaking.

We had a room on the 6th floor with a sea view, bath tub with jacuzzi jets which were awesome surprise! The room was always cleaned to perfection and even our monkey teddy (bought from The monkey Park: totally reccommend visitting) was loved and cared for =D The furniture was quality walnut, retro looking, comfortable bed, with enough space to do my own yoga and a balcony with chairs and tables, even a clothes line to hang up the wet bits.

Staff was friendly, waiters working round the clock but still had a relaxed and down-to-earth, family atmosphere to them. We had an early breakfast once, and to our surprise, the whole buffet was set up at 6am, just for 3-4 guests!

The following is about the tourist agency, not the hotel: [I wouldn't reccommend the tourist agency located in one of the offices at the front of the hotel. We bought a trip to teide mountain and cable car when the staff knew the cable cars were not running due to strong winds! We ended up waiting for about 4 hours until the agent returned to the office to give us our cable-car money back! It was a tourist trap, couldn't really enjoy the view and insane mars-looking sights as we only had 10 min. here and there and back onto the bus again.. just trapped in a rolling vehicle with 40 tourists and a guide talking (what seemed like forever) in spanish and german, and translating a phrase in english we could barely understand cause it made no sense! And frankly, she didn't say anything remotely interesting, only managed to promote and promote and promote their junk tour offers! It was a recipe for headache and exhaustion. If you want to see Teide mountain properly, make sure you' re getting a decent deal or rent a car.]

Overall, it's a beautiful hotel...
We wish we were there right now! We'd go back in a heartbeat!
Thank you Gran Hotel Turquesa Playa
