“Not again. Staff rude, location terrible, we drove to the south everyday.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 April 2011

I would not recommend this hotel to any of my friends. My partner and I stayed for a week at the end of Feb 2011. The staff were beyond rude, they couldn't find our booking on arrival, after we phoned thomsons on our phone, (they said it was closed, we couldn't use theirs to phone....) they were open and eventually we got a room.... but they had said they were already fully booked...so the room we receieved was a partially furnished 2 bedroom. As we only paid for one bedroom they locked the door to the other! There was no kitchen or refrigerator as listed in description. After 3 days of complaining or asking to be moved, surprise surprise we finally got a fridge put in (EVERY other room had one!!!) The location is bad, you can't walk anywhere. You would definately need a car. But that being said the weather in the north here is very bad, we started driving south to get the sunshine every day, where we were was always cloudy overcast and cold...thats the north of the island I guess!! Mostly German or Spanish, we only met one other british family there. Not a problem usually but I think the reception aren't friendly or helpful at all., perhaps because the minority are british? Wifi is 2 euros an hour....food is ok, somewhat repetetive, but what really annoyed us is we were half board, so no tap water allowed for us, we had to buy bottled water... where as AI people all around us got big pitchers of tap water on their table. RIP OFF!!! We would not stay in this hotel again. Stay elsewhere.... (We are not a moany couple either we have stayed in worse, but if you are looking for sun, at least somewhat politeness, a furnished room, and a halfway decent location...don't stay here.)

As usual my partner & I spent ages trawling web sites and reviews, finally balancing money against , location, view & peace and quiet. We chose Las Aguilas, we were aware of the facts clearly noted and reviewed that the hotel was approx a mile from the coast line, most of it on a hill (The hotel is Mauve/Pink and stands out very well on it's elevated position). C (Partner) & I wanted to mingle with less Britons and more Spanish, really don't like places advertising "Fish n Chips served here", or any other place purporting to be a piece of home, I'm on holiday, I want to feel as though I'm in a Spanish Bar/Restaurant, not my local chippy down the road! We decided we would eat out/away from the hotel to mingle more. Simple rustic places would be fine. We also organised a hire car that we would pick up from the airport on arrival, and we were very glad of it. It actually worked out about £100 more than if we had paid for the transfer fee's, and that's a car for 7 nights. From here I'm going to make simple comments about rest of holiday.
Picked up car from Gold Rental, no probs. Drove to hotel, great roads, well lit and major roads lit everywhere, all the time, puts our Motorways to shame. Arrived at hotel and checked in. Staff friendly. Went to room - Major problem, the room was on the bottom floor next to the car park. Cars park up against the rails of the terrace and the lights shime straight into the bedroom. Up to reception, explained why not happy. Advised we booked a promotional suite, and this was it, all rooms it seems not ideally situated are labelled promotional rooms, or if there is something about the room that people may not like, so be warned! However, even after having had a party of over 100 they agreed to find another room if we were prepared to pay an extra 10 euro a day. Small sum for having a room with a view or even away from the car park. Agreed to pay at end of stay, moved to room 507, top level, facing the hills and shopping area's, which neither of us minded, nice for a change to the sea. The room had it's own sink, fridge and a couple of cooking pots. They don't mind you taking your own food and drink up to your fridge. Went to the local Hippo Supermarket, which you can see from out balcony, also Mount Tiede, the TF5 main road and others. Distance to the road in a straight line, approx 700m. Noise, I'm not a light sleeper, however even when the patio doors were closed there was still a lot of traffic noise, the reason?, the patio doors were only single glazed, not double! Oh, what a shame. Such a lovely thing to be able to do, is to shut the doors on all the noise, but not here. Hotel safe, yes it costs extra. Shower, I do like a decent shower, and this one wasn't. We brought it to their attention and it was fixed three days later, the difference was huge. We paid for half board, simply because that's what was on offer or all inclusive. We didn't expect much in this area as the cost was so minimal, but hey, what a great surprise. Lots of everything and very organised and friendly staff. So to summarise, would we go back, possibly, but then we likely as not shall save longer and more, also we like going to different places. Would I recommend it to a friend, yes, but only my fitter friends and ones that like to drive on holiday. It's a great base to travel from, a car in my opinion is mandatory. Although I know there is a free bus you can get from the hotel to the centre of Puerto up to about 6pm. After that your into taxi world. The other thing is this, we booked the hotel ourselves, not via a travel agent. 95% of people in the hotel are either Spanish or German tourist likely 50/45% respectively. I love this as when your next to people chattering away in another language it's so much more relaxing than hearing the same possibly annoying chat in English. Have a good holiday. M :)

We are a couple in our 40s and was looking for a relaxing christmas holiday, we went all inclusive to save making any decisions.!!! This is a stunning hotel as previous people have said, very clean and well kept. We upgraded to a suite which was large and the views fantastic. What we didn't like, very bad lack of communication to guests. If we had not have read on trip advisor we would not have know there was a shuttle bus, did anyone know they had a towel service?? Restaurant
was closed during lunch for the first 4 days, (we arrived on the 20th) which meant we were only allowed snacks- a meal we had to pay for, it then opened for 2 days but no one told us!! service was slack for all inclusive guests which I was later advised was due to the fact they do not tip!! -I would happily tip for a good service. the staff although sort of helpful, were not welcoming, no entertainment at as as noone wanted to take part, eg quiz, singing etc, during the evening the most people we saw in the bar at one time were around 20 - ( where did everyone go! - this hotel is massive). Other guest were friendly and we were grateful not to be surronded by flip flops, vests and drunk English people making us all llok bad.Tthank goodness we met another English couple as we had had enough of playing cards by day 4! I would recommend to people who want to lazy by the pool and go to bed a 10pm.

We went for Christmas, flying out on 19th Dec, and, because of the snow, were delayed so arrived close to midnight. We were met by a cheerful and helpful member of the staff who quickly sorted our rooms and then advised us a cold meal had been laid out in the dining room should we require it. Excellent service after a long day travelling. Our family group consisted of three adults in their 30s, three 50s/60s and a two year old. We all had a relaxing and interesting time and info from other people re the shuttle bus, food etc is all true. We booked a two bed suite and two 'promo' rooms. The suite had a large lounge area, a kitchen area with small table, two bedrooms - one ensuite- and a family bathroom plus a large balcony. One promo room was larger than the other but both had a bedroom, kitchen area, lounge and large terrace as they were on the ground floor. We were all delighted with our accommodation and it was all kept clean with a daily maid service. We went half board and the choices for breakfasts and dinners suited the British, Spanish and German nationalities staying in the hotel. The grounds are enormous with two pools and a children's play area that had a paddling pool surrounded by sand plus slides, swings, seesaw, etc on the grassed area. There are tennis courts, table tennis, boules, large chess set also available. It's true that both pools are cold though the younger members of the group said one was slightly warmer. One corner has a waterfall and there is an enclosed garden bar/restaurant where you can sit overlooking the town below while sipping your cocktail or coffee.
I liked the little area separated for ducks with their own waterfall and house!
The reception staff were very helpful and answered all out questions on how to get to places eg for Loro Park get the free shuttle bus, 3 min walk to free mini train that takes you to the Park. This is an excellent place and well worth seeing. All other staff were friendly and always greeted us with a smile and 'hola' whenever we saw them.
Puerto itself is large and has a lovely promenade with shops alongside the sea, keep going for the better quality shops. Other reviews have mentioned the massive superstore and shopping area at the bottom of the hill from the hotel and it is also worth a visit and can be reached by either walking or by taxi - some of our party walked there while others booked a taxi but you do need to be energetic to walk around the busy dual carriageway and back up the hill; there is a route and you don't have to take your life in your hands and 'jaywalk' across the roads.
We didn't sample the evening entertainment as we had a two year old but the posters advertising it advised of starting time which was generally between 9.30pm and 10.00pm and included singers, karaoke and quiz night.
On Christmas Day Papa Noel gave presents to the children and there was a barbecue lunch (12 Euros for non-inclusive guests) in the bar/restaurant in the garden.
The hotel started to fill up closer to Christmas but it never felt too crowded and most of the visitors were Spanish, with a good percentage of Germans and a sprinkle of British.
On both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day we were given Bucks Fizz and Cava on entering the restaurant for dinner which started and finished earlier than usual to give the staff time with their families in the evening - a caring touch.
It isn't the place to go for nightlife but for relaxing and sightseeing it's ideal.
We all agreed it was an excellent choice of both hotel and place and would be quite happy to visit again.

I spent Oct half term here with my 10 year old son. Only half a dozen other English people (and strangely hardly any other children) there but that didn't really matter to us. Beautiful location - very quiet and relaxing week. Shuttle bus to town was great - if little used by other guests it seemed. Taxi to / from Puerto de la Cruz was approx 5euros.
Evening entertainment was disappointing as only ever catered for the more mature Spanish contingent (mondosenior) but as they were the main hotel guests that week it was understandable.
Food was good, lots of choice - half board was more than sufficient for us.
Suites were lovely and spacious - we too overlooked the car park but the view up the valley past the cars to Mt Tiede was spectacular.
Only observation / complaint was great kitchen area in the room but not a stick of crockery or cutlery in sight - bizarre. Glad I took the travel kettle and the Tetleys!
Finally my son recommends not leaping into the pools - they were freezing!
Would definitely recommend this hotel for a quiet break away from it all.

This was a relaxing trip for my wife and I. The hotel is located in the north of Tenerife on a hill, a short taxi ride from the beach at Puerto de la Cruz.. The fact that it is on a steep hill makes it quite inaccessible without a car. We had booked the trip hoping to be near the beach and were a little disappointed that we could not walk there. On the other hand, there were regular-ish shuttle buses throughout the day to and from the beach so you didn't have to spend 5 euros plus on taxis everyday.

The hotel itself is very nice. The staff friendly and multi-linguel. I would say the hotel is four and a half star. We were half board and the breakfasts were good but the evening meals were absolutely delicious. Good choice, with salads, fish and meat. I suspect that there would be less choice for kids, but the deserts section would keep any sweet tooth happy.

There claims to be a heated pool but of the two we saw, they were both freezing, and it was difficult to get in! In town and at the beach it was always warmer. However they were clean and the views from the location were excellent. Owing to the remote location, it could be very peaceful. It can be very cloudy up there because of the mountains but we saw the sun everyday, particularly as we went to the beach on the shuttle. It appears to be a very popular spot with local families as there were two wedding receptions held there while we visited.

Would definitely go again, but we don't enjoy partying every night. Its not a place for the young crowd because of its location. If you want the beach, the sun, and partying, find somewhere in Playa das Americas in the south :)

This is a lovely hotel and I won't bore you with re-iterating the other good reviews on rooms, food etc. Main comment from us is regarding water. Although the AI includes water its simply not that accessible. They have small bottles or large containers from which the bar staff can serve you a glass. Often if you ask for a bottle then they have none!! As a result we had to purchase some water from the supermarket for our room to drink during the night. Sounds nitpicky but we found this annoying. - Tips for the all inclusive guest: Lunches range between nice and excellent, its usually freshly cooked fish or pork with a buffet salad (also fresh). On a saturday they have a BBQ- we missed it so I can't comment - but had we known it was only once per week would have stayed for this. The management cocktail on thursday is also a nice touch and a useful opportunity to meet the management team on an informal basis. Its worth upgrading the room for a view -we had a mount Tiede view and it was fantastic! There's a big shopping centre nearby which we walked to (dodging the traffic though cos theres no easy walking route). The free bus down town is useful also. On a cautionary note, we booked a tour to Mount Tiede - although its well worth visiting this its probably the worst way to do it!!! My advice in hindsight is to hire a car or go by taxi, there is a cable car up there which we didnt have the opportunity to experience and we spent far to long on the coach.

back to the hotel, we found all the staff friendly (although occasionally we had to work at getting a smile!). Some of the staff are very rigid in their application of the AI 'rules' (but others could be persuaded to bend the rules in the interests of the customer!). We found the hotel a little bit too quiet during the day -as there are two pools they could potentially have one quiet area and one with something more going on or piped music. Overall though, a really nice hotel and one which we would recommend!
