“Well Worthy Of It's 4* Rating”
Reviewed 26 August 2013

We stayed at the Hotel Las Aguilas for a week's all inclusive from the 17th to 24th of August. We were allocated room 128, on the first floor, although as the hotel is built on a hillside, this is on the reception level.
ROOM - The room was very spacious and overlooked Mt.Teide from our balcony. The room was naturally low down and was at car-park level however this did not distract us during our stay. It was a 1 bedroomed apartment with kitchen area. Both rooms had air conditioning which worked a treat, it was 38C on our arrival! The bedroom had the added benefit of a ceiling fan. The bathroom was equipped with a jacuzzi bath, shower, bidet, toilet and sink area. The jacuzzi bath was amazing but did initially smell of the drains when first used. My advice would be to fill the bath, run the jacuzzi, empty the bath and refill.....only takes a few minutes longer.
The lounge was equipped with 2 sofa beds for our 2 children which they both said were comfortable, TV with a few channels, not too bothered about there being limited english channels as we were not on holiday to watch tv! The area had a kitchen but we only used the fridge for drinks. There were no kitchen utensils but as we were all-inclusive, this did not bother us. I was told that utensils are available for those that go other than all-inclusive. The rooms key is a card as most modern hotels are these days, we were only issued one card to start with but a trip to the reception area and we were given another one without charge. The room was cleaned by housekeeping daily who were all very friendly and have to be commended for their standards of cleanliness. I wasn't afraid to leave any money or valuables out either....

The hotel has wi-fi but unfortunately was only available in the reception area and a few limited rooms and ours wasn't one! So consequently, the reception area is usually filled with people using laptops and mobile phones.....Yes, I was one of them....The price is 2 euros for an hour or 5 euros for 24 hours....this is actual connection time and stops as soon as you disconnect from the wifi so it lasted me all week. The hotel should maybe look at installing a decent wifi systemfor all rooms.

The food was outstanding and some of the best I have had at an all inclusive hotel in this price bracket. Breakfast included bacon, sausage, eggs (scrambled and fried), beans, tomatoes, and other continental foods such as meatballs, carrots and cod nuggets! There was also a wide selection of chilled meats, cheeses, fruit and cereals. Lunch and Dinner were also fantastic and we had plenty of freshly cooked meat and fish, pasta and salad available. The meat ranged from fillet steak, gammon and chicken through to Goat! (very similar to lamb). There was always plenty of food available whether you went as the restaurant opened or 15 minutes before it closed.

The pool area was clean and tidy and although the hotel was full, we never had any trouble finding a sun lounger. There are 3 pools at the hotel, 1 near the main pool bar which ranged from 0.60m to 1.4m deep with a shallow walk-in area. Another pool is situated some 75m away from the main pool and is large in size with a depth of between 0.8m and 1.6m with a very refreshing waterfall at one end under which are situated the toilets. This pool is where most of the water based animation activities take place other than the aqua gym. The only problem with this pool is the distance away from the pool bar and maybe the hotel should look at implementing a small pool bar in the area. Once again no lack of sun loungers here. The other pool is a small childrens pool which I cannot comment on as we never used this area. At all 3 pools there was a lifeguard on duty from 10am-6pm which was pleasing to see.

The all-inclusive drinks were good, with Amstel beer on tap and locally produced spirits and some cocktails available, at the pool bar from 10-7 and then in the main bar from 7-11. The entertainment was a bit hit and miss and was inside in the main bar area which could become a little crowded at times, especially one evening when there was a light drizzle outside. There was also limited seating that didn't have some sort of pillar blocking part of your view.
The animation team worked hard during the course of our week and didn't pressurise you into taking part in any of the events until I pushed Paulina into the pool and then she looked at exacting revenge in any way possible! I played Volleyball, Water-Polo, Water Volleyball and Football and found them all entertaining.

The hotel caters for many nationalities german, Spanish, Italian and Russian, and this has to be remembered when booking here although it didn't bother us in the slightest. Communication was never a problem as we found all the staff spoke relatively good English.

There is a Spa facility recently opened and both my partner and myself took advantage of this. I had an hour long aloe-vera massage for 41 Euros and my partner had a peeling deep cleansing massage for 34 euros. Jerome (the masseause), freshly made the aloe-vera rub by stripping a leaf from a plant and removing the sap...quite a sight to behold..... He explained everything in very good English of what he was doing...well worth the money.

There is a daily bus service into Puerto De La Cruz departing the hotel at regular intervals during the day. If you decide to have an evening down there, a taxi back will cost about 6 euros. The hotel is situated on top of a small hill and enjoys good views all round with Puerto Cruz to one side and Mt.Teide to the other. The hotel is quite near to the motorway however this didn't affect us once. Also there is a good shopping centre just on the other side of the motorway called La Villa which had many varied shops and outlets and is indeed worth a visit.

All in all, we considered the hotel good value, we paid £2200 for 4 of us through on the beach.

The hotel is definately worth a look if you want a quality all-inclusive hotel in this area of Tenerife. Many thanks for making our stay enjoyable. The only things from stopping me awarding it an excellent rating are the wi-fi issue and the lack of a secong pool bar......

Room Tip: The first floor rooms are actually on the entrance level.....For better views choose a higher floor...

As this was our 1st all inclusive holday as a family our expectations were very high. The hotal Aguilas was a very nice hotel in an excellent location. The staff worked very very hard and the cleanliness and service and friendliness at bar and resteraunt were faultless. As an English family we found it a little difficult to get information out of the front desk (more geered towards their German clients) but this was not necessaraly a problem. The animation team again worked very hard and were very enthusiatic at getting people to join acctivities. These and the evening were very focused on a family hotel which the Las Aguilas is definately one. It would be nice to have a little more adult entertainment after the evening show and I am sure the residence would not have minded paying for drinks (as we did ) after 11.00 if the entertainment was good. We were a little dissappointed with the quality of beer and wine (but hey you get what you pay for!) The food was plentiful all be it a little bland for our tastes and breakfast and dinner could be a little like being at the school canteen. It wouold have been nice to see a few more smiling faces (we are on holiday for goodness sake) and towards the end of our 11 days I was getting a little upset that no one said please, thanks you or excuse me. If the hotel was a little more excusive I would have paid more as said it had all the basics right. On the whole it was a "Good" break not "very good" but worth what we paid.

Room Tip: Ours was overlooking the sea as suggested on Trip advisor and was really nice.

We have just returned from two weeks in this hotel and cannot praise it highly enough.

Last year we had the holiday from hell (see my review for the Caleta Gardens Hotel), and this was the polar opposite.

The staff were so friendly and helpful, the food was excellent and the rooms cannot be faulted either.

I went with my wife and our two daughters (aged 14 and 9) and we all felt the same about the excellent standards of the hotel.

The food was spot on, and the staff did not rush you if you arrived just before the service was due to finish - for example the evening meals were served from 19:00 - 22:00, and you had just as much choice at 22:00 as you did at 19:00 and you could still sit and eat without feeling rushed.

The food choice was wide, varied and well cooked and catered for all of our tastes.

The staff helped us with everything we needed, from packed lunches for day trips, through to which pharmacies were open on a Sunday (when my youngest needed some medication).

The courtesy bus into the main town was punctual and reliable.

There were three pools available and at no point did we have to get up early to reserve any sunbeds......every day we wandered down to the pool after breakfast and were able to get sunbeds with umbrellas without any problem.

The snack bar near the main pool provided pastries as well as salads, hot dogs, lasagne, squid, fish etc., so there was never any point during the day when you would go hungry (we were all inclusive...so I cannot comment for those on half board etc.,). There was even a coffee machine which provided extremely top quality coffee.

A couple of minor 'niggles' were that the TV in our room only had three english channels (and they were all news channels). The evening entertainment was in a room with large pillars, and if you didn't get a seat in the middle of the pillars you couldn't see very much, and you do have to accept that the hotel is set aside from the main town centre, so if you want to explore Puerto de la Cruz etc., you do have to rely on the courtesy bus or pay for a taxi.

One point to note, for the first week we were (or felt like we were) the only english family in the hotel as it is primarily occupied by germans, and even during our second week I would say that it was 80% occupied by german nationals.

One last comment on the 'personable nature' of the hotel staff, my youngest daughter lost her white teddy at the begining of our holiday, and just before we went home, the housekeeping team had found the teddy and returned it to us...cleaned and washed !!!

Would we stay at this hotel again......yes, most definitely.

Room Tip: We had a room with the view of Mount Tiede (rather than overlooking the pool), and it was quiet each...

Rooms (Mountain View Suite):
Positives:
-huge balcony
-huge room complete with kitchen area, seating/TV area, bathroom, bedroom and balcony
-generally very clean apart from a few worn/moldy tiles that cannot be cleaned
Neutral:
-a big bed but not especially comfortable as there was 2 single beds pushed together
Negatives:
-the jacuzzi setting on the bath, when turned on, smelt like drains
-the shower head would only stay up and a certain angle and the temperature didn't hold very well
-the English TV channels were very limited to only 3 news channels

Food
Positives:
-such a large selection at every meal including hot meats, cold meats, pastas, salad, fruit, ice-cream, water, juices, tea, coffee etc
-we only had lunch in the restaurant once because the snack bar was so good and convenient (we loved the ice-cream)
Neutrals:
-some of the food was a little odd, meatballs for breakfast for example, but i guess the hotel has to cater for all guests; the food was quite German orientated
-the food did become a little repetitive but that is to be expected when going all inclusive
-Negatives:
-the orange juice from the drink machine was gross!

Pool/Pool Area
Positives:
-both pools were beautiful, however we preferred the pool by the snack bar as it was central to the hotel and it's facilities i.e. food, drink, toilets etc
-there were plenty of sunbeds at all times of day
-great for both young and old
Neutrals:
-at times there was a shortage of parasols
Negatives:
-i wasn't too keen on the fact the sun loungers were on grass as it would stick to your feet and, if your feet were wet, cause them to get muddy (i guess though this does stop people falling over if they have wet feet!)

Other
Positives:
-the animation team were great and very friendly. Although we didn't have children with us and didn't wish to take part in the activities they regularly advertised, there was plenty of opportunity for kids and adults to have fun and try news things i.e. water polo, tennis, stretching etc.
-the views were incredible everywhere
-the hotel had their own free shuttle bus, taking guests into puerto de la cruz, which was very handy
-there was a great variety of entertainment in the evening
-the weather, although a little cloudy in the mornings and a little in the afternoon, was perfect. Very hot, with a little wind.
Neutral:
-this wasn't a problem at all for us because we didn't go on holiday to necessarily make friends, but the guests were largely German and Spanish
-when we arrived the man working on reception spoke very little English which made it rather difficult to understand where to find our room etc, but we were given a piece of paper with lots of information written on it so this wasn't so much of a problem. I believe this is why many other people have reviewed the staff at the hotel to be rude, yet i believe they come across this way because their knowledge of the English language is limited
-the hotel isn't near anything at all as it sits on top of large hill/mountain. This didn't matter too much because we were all inclusive but, when we did venture down the hill one evening to lidl, we had to cross over a very busy roundabout which was rather interesting! ..as was the walk back up the hill!
Negatives:
-wifi was very expensive! $5 a day!

Room Tip: Definitely, definitely choose all inclusive!

just came back from a 10 night holiday with my husband, from the airport to the hotel takes about 1 hour, the hotel las aguilas was set upon a very large hill.you could see it from the motorway, looks very impressive, when you arrive outside, reception area is very dark and dull, the reception staff were very nice,we got the key to our room, facing the mountain,1st floor and in the corner, very dark,so upgraded to a suite the other side of hotel with stunning views of the sea and hills, had a ground floor with a balcony about 50 feet, room was huge, kitchen dining area, huge bathroom and bedroom, maids cleaned everyday, food was very nice plenty of choice, bottles of wine and beer to help yourselves at dinner, plenty of soft drinks too,we were all inclusive, food and snacks all day, waiters and staff all lovely, entertainment was OK,main people who stay at hotel are Germans, but no problem,a few gripes,no bottled water, only cups to help yourself,no indoor pool,no cash point, and dont take debit cards and you have to pay for Wi Fi in reception area, free bus to take you to the town, far and few between, too far to walk, nice break and the weather was very cloudy everyday, not sure if its like that all year,as the hotel is so high up,if you want a quiet break then you will enjoy it,

Room Tip: choose a room with a sea view well worth it

We had a wonderful vacation there. Hotel is located on a hill some 5-8 min from town (taxi/bus) with an amazinig view of the Atlantic ocean. Staff is friendly and it is clean. So lets start with some hotel details. (we had a suite as we are 4 people)

+ Clean and cozy
+ Rooms are quite big. This includes the bath as well - for a hotel it's huge (jackuzzi bathtub, bidet)
+ Beds are really comfortable (drapes have almost a full blackout if you need it)
+ Large balcony
+ There is a kitchen box with a sink and cooking top.
+ 3 pools - one is right infront of the hotel the other two are located to the side (one is a childrens pool), all are made suitable for small children too and are cleaned on a daily basis.
+ Animation is nice. There is a kids club - nothing fancy but twice a day, Ivan, is making sure that the children have fun.
+ There are 2 pool tables, cheep once :)
There is also football and a ping pong table
There is a chess graound with big figures :) Real fun to play with
+ View of the sunset from the furthest pool is really good
+ There is a shuttle bus to Puerto De la Cruz 5 times a day free of charge.
+ No minibar which is plus for me but there are 2 bottles of mineral water and 2 juice for a small fee should you need it.
+ You can hire a car for a reasonable prise directly at the hotel so you don't need to order in advance.
+ Down the hill there is a bus stop and you can catch busses pretty much to everywhere. Although keep in mind taxis are cheep compared to most of europe.
+ There is a Lidl shop where you can buy some food and drinks. There is also a mall on the other side of the highway but the walk is about 15-20 min because you need to go over a roundabout.
+ Washing machines are avaiable as well.

Neutrals:
• Tennis courts are avaiable - didn't use them so i cannot comment on the quality
• The walk down the hill is not the easiest.
• Food is avarage, diversity at lunch time was lacking a bit. (something to rant about is tomatos - they are just awful although they are fresh)
• There is a safe in the room but it's is payed so I'm not that happy about it but i guess that is all over Spain for resort hotels.

- Internet is not free of charge and though it is inexpensive I would have expected that you can use it in the room not only in the lobby :(
- Cocktails are not that good in the lobby bar, the espresso too, also the tea selection could do better (if you want good coffee and cocktails I would reccomend to go to Caffe Amanusa in Puerto de La cruz - Calle Hoya 12)

If you have AI you have access to the drinks and the local alchoholic drinks which is nice and there is always food and drinks during the whole day. You can also upgrade to AI if you want.
All and all it's worth going there and I would go again :_)
Trourists are mosly of german speaking origin so the personal has sometimes trouble speking english so be aware of that.

We enjoyed it.

Had a nice break at the Hotel Las Aguilas from 6 to 13 May. Room was large and quite adequate, but was slightly tired (that said, nothing really wrong with it). Grounds of the hotel were good, location also good. There is a main road running behind the hotel, which does generate a certain amount of noise ,our room was at 90 degrees to the road and sea, the noise for us was no real problem. We were half board, and did not upgrade to the 'all inclusive' option (15 euro pp/pd I believe), as we didn't want to consume too much! If you spend a lot of time at the hotel, I think AI would be a good option to take up. There is a Lidl to the rear of the hotel (10 minute walk including a steep hill to the hotel), quite useful.....
If you are half board, drinks are obviously not included in the restaurant (even water), We bought our drinks (wine and water), and had no problems. Food was fairly good (any catering of this type becomes repetitive after several days). Puddings were lacking.....
Views from this hotel were excellent, but not really central to Puerto de la Cruz. Hotel does offer a bus service to Puerto de la Cruz, which was free I believe.
I do agree with what some other travelers have said, the room walls are quite thin, and you can hear what;s going on in nearby rooms.
All in all, noisy rooms, otherwise quite a good hotel.

Room Tip: Quieter rooms at the front (sea facing). We had a side facing room (road & sea), which had some...
