As we just wanted to get away from the cold weather in Oslo for a week, we took a chance on a budget hotel. We became quite skeptical after passing a long corridor on the ground floor with a heavy smell of mold and decay. However, the corner room we had got was relatively large with three beds (room 106). The mini kitchen was spartan equipped with kitchenware, but the fridge was working silently and was big enough for our needs. We had a balcony with a fantastic view and the morning sun, a nice place for breakfast.
Due to our experience with budget hotels we brought earplugs, which was a good idea since a rooster started very early and a couple next door was partying quite heavily the first five days.
The beds were quite hard. The cleaning of the room was good and the staff were smiling and friendly.
We had dinner at the hotel's restaurant one night. The food was tasteless and cheep - not to recommend.
On the roof was a nice pool with a bar.
The location was ok if you do not mind some steep streets if you want to go downtown.
For us it was ok since we like walking.

I had a small room with a kitchenette. The room was spartan furnished but functionable. I also had a balcony towards an area with an open green space. Everything in the room was functioning and the cleaning of the room impeccable. The fridge was very noisy, but I unplugged it. The only thing that was annoying was that it was very thin walls and noisy. Despite the fact that the other guests were not loud, it was a lot of noise around. The reception was always open and the staff were friendly. I had a bit unluck with the weather and the room was quite cold, but fortunately there were extra blankets in the cupboard. The location was up on a hill about 20 min from the town area. Good for me who wanted exercise in a calm area.

Room Tip: There are 5 rooms on the 5th floor beside the pool. They have more sun.

Hello!
We booked 2 double rooms in Casa del Sol (one for me and my partner and one for his friend).
When we arrived on 27th April at about 2-3pm, Casa del Sol was closed.
Nobody was answering the phone numbers we found on the doors. As Casa del Sol is in some hotel chain, we called to another hotel - Hotel Tropical (number we found on the doors), receptionist told us that hotel is closed and will not be opened.
Nobody notified us in email that our booking is canceled. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone for it's poor customer service.

Hi All,

i hope this helps,

me and my girlfriend stayed here last month through easyjet holidays which was relatively cheap £280 per person for 14 nights..

the hotel itself is fine,

pros:
very tidy room, cleaned daily.
good breakfasts
nice swimming pool, was being cleaned whilst we were there unfortunately, but still had a quick swim anyway.

cons:
found two cockroaches in the hallways, rooms fine tho.
dead hotel, no buzz at all, creepily quiet,
buffet dinner 9 euros each( no drinks included) found alot cheaper in town!
the WEATHER, cloud hovers round puerto de la cruz due to the volcano, luckily we rented a car to drive south everyday, 3 hours driving everyday to find sunshine! for 2 weeks!! so
oh and no beaches!!!!

i loved tenerife due to the fact that we hired a car and did loads of island exploring but if i was gonna go back then i would save myself alot of time and money and stay in the south of the island and venture to puerto de la cruz to see 2 things, 1) loro parque 2) lago martianez, well worth a visit.

i cant recommend the south of the island more, the weather comparison is phenomenal.

cheers and hope i've helped to improve peoples holidays.

We stayed at the Casa Del Sol in March 2007. The rooms were very large as were the bathrooms (which have a bidet). Our room also had a balcony with wonderful views overlooking the sea to the left and the mountains to the right, there was even a strip of grass a few hundred metres away where goats grazed happily.
The décor was pleasant but looked worn and needed updating, particularly the carpet, however, the beds were very comfortable and everything was very clean. The breakfast was a bit lacking in choice and by the end of the holiday I chose not to have breakfast but wait until we went to the main resort where I would have a cake from one of the lovely cafes dotted around, followed by the fabulous Canarian coffee Barraquito. Having observed what was available for lunch and dinner I would not recommend staying on a half board basis. There are lots of wonderful places to eat out both in the main resort plus a few around the hotel as well including a lovely Italian restaurant called Nettuno where we ate three times (they are closed on Tuesdays).
The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful and brought us extra blankets and pillows at our request We unfortunately had a week of very rainy and overcast weather, apparently the weather had been brilliant up until our arrival. The hotel is up a steep hill, off Calle Belgica. The brochure stated that a bus service is provided from the hotel to downtown except Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. However, we know from another tourist staying there at the same time as us that this service was not provided, I know he complained but don’t know what the outcome was.
There are two flights of steps to and from reception, therefore I would advise that this hotel is not suitable for those less mobile although they do have a lift. If you’re fit and like walking then the hotel is in a lovely location, near to a couple of lovely parks one called Taoro Park which has a waterfall and café with spectacular views overlooking Puerto De La Cruz and is also close to the Casino if you like that sort of thing. We chose to hire a car, which was ideal for us as we like to explore different parts of the island however, it was difficult to find a parking space near the hotel.
We booked accommodation and flights separately, accommodation through laterooms and flight through Thomas Cook, and car hire through Ortiz/Autoreisen, no problems there. There is also a roof top pool at the hotel, which has lots of secluded little corners where you can sunbathe topless. Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Casa Del Sol and would go back there although not for the food or lack of entertainment if the weather isn’t up to much. You can hire a TV for 2.50 Euros a day or 16 Euros a week but only two English speaking Channels, one of which was CNN, so not worth it really. There is internet access at 1 Euro per 15 minutes. Luckily my aunt was staying at the Interpalace in the La Paz area of Puerto so we went over there every evening to watch the entertainment shows.
