Hotel Adonis Capital
Reviewed 30 May 2014

Sitting right on the main square in Santa Cruz, Adonis Capital is the perfect base for exploring the city. Everything is within walking distance so all the usual transport expenses can go straight towards your culture budget instead.
The hotel itself is very modern and comfortable. Our balcony looked out over the square and the mountains in the North, making late night al fresco wine a must. The room was beautifully presented and the bathroom was HUGE! There was even a bidet in there.
Breakfast was served on the top floor, again making the most of the views. The choice was not as comprehensive as many of the more tourist facing establishments, but we found it sufficient and enjoyable. There are cold cuts, cereals, some pastries, tea, coffee and fruit juice. There were boiled eggs, bacon and hot dog type sausages but no omelette station which was a shame.
The staff were always friendly and keen to help with directions etc.
No problem recommending Adonis to anyone. Nice place to be.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony with a mountain view.

This is the same company as runs the Adonis Plaza on the other side of the square.

I've stayed in both now.

The Adonis Capital is somewhat cheaper but also lacks some of the facilities of the sister hotel (no fridge, no safe, no air conditioning but powerful fan provided, fewer TV channels, slower WiFi I felt). The absence of a safe was a bit of a concern to me as I had laptop, IPad etc that I didn't fancy lugging round but I left these out of site and had no problems.

The room (807) was a very good size. Not much of a view as it faces onto the back court yard but that probably also means it is quieter (the main square often has events in the evening).

The negatives are that a lack of sound insulation mean you can hear conversations in adjoining rooms, also on a few occasions there was a short lived sewage type smell (I didn't bother complaining about this as it was quite unpleasant for a few minutes but then cleared).

Very handy location and I would probably stay there again.

I can not imagine going to Santa Cruz without staying at this hotel. Staff is rally nice, kindy and friendly.Good locatión and facilities. During carnivals you hace totally acceso to the hotel everytime you wish and when you go to bed after party do not hace to worry about the noise. I had always booking rooms with outside view.

OK, so i start by reminding everyone that this hotel is only 2 star and we paid around 46euros per night including breakfast. I was unsure of what to expect given passed mixed reviews and the fact that i have never holidayed at lower than 4 star before, but i was pleasently surprised:

The Good:

As a two star hotel i was not expecting a hairdryer (that actually worked and didnt look like a hoover extension), a flatscreen tv or a queen size bed (no falling down the middle!) which was very well dressed

There was also plenty of storage space in the room, though i would advise to take a few extra hangers. there was a lack of storage space in the bathroom though. just one very small shelf above the sink. (with some soaps and sachets of shower gel)

we went in feb but had some hot days - the room stayed cool

The Ugly

As mentioned before in previous reviews then decor is a little 70's! the tiles (only on one wall) didnt bother me - infact it felt more clean, but the gold edged door and gold paneled ceiling was abit naff but really didnt effect our stay - id suggest the hotel just paints it white!!

The Bad
the only thing id really like to see them change is the shower - the head is very old (though fully fuctional - but the tubing from the tap to head wasnt very pleasant......)

Cleaners did a good job - no complaints here, breakfast was plentiful and changed a little each morning. i found the coffee to be fine.

Reception - responded promptly to my email sent before i booked, but during the stay the personnel changed daily - one guy was pleasant but the others spoke when spoken too - no greetings when passing or anything. a tad cold id say. They did provide extra pillows within 10mins of asking. They didnt tell us anything about breakfast but there was a sign on the desk to tell us where and times.

Noise - friday night was very loud, saturday was loud but not as bad. the rest of the week is fine - honestly i think you have to expect noise- the location is so central and based on a very famous/important square but there isnt any protection at all from it, so if you want quiet stear clear - if you want a fab location and are either going to be part of the noise or fine with the noise its great.

Parking - difficult but not impossible. the hotel offer it at 10euros per night which i didnt think was good value. we found parking within 5mins of the hotel every night for free and could be parked at any time. if you have patience it can be done.

all in all we had a good time and the ugly/bad didnt effect our holiday - i give it a very good due to the price/star rating against what we got.

Room Tip: we were on the 3rd floor - i think higher may be more quiet and not all rooms have a balcony so in...

Stayed here for 1 night after a .cruise. Good hotel set about 50metres from promenade opposite cruise port. The hotel does a very good breakfast, the receptionist was very friendly and helpful and is set near to shops, parks and there is even a Mcdonalds next door. Excellent location for catching buses or trams for going further afield.

Very convenient location; basic, clean and spacious room - with balcony. Friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was excellent. Some noise from the street and plaza during the week-end, but not much considering the sentral location and the bars and restaurants in the neighbourhood.

Room Tip: Try the 4th floor and up (to 8th), less noise and more light

The hotel is noisy in its interior because every floor is tiled and there is a marked lack of soft furnishings, rugs, carpets or the like. In our room there was also no modesty curtain meaning those in nearby hi-rise buildings had to have their sensitivities preserved by our use of the heavy doorway curtain separating the balcony. Like the room the balcony was a good size, with plastic table and chairs. However, its light, like all the other balcony lights, cannot be operated. The staff told me they'd reported the fault but nothing changed during our ten day stay. The room, whilst large, is sparsely furnished and the location of the door is in conflict with the position of the en-suite meaning that much space was squandered by design. The TV had only one English speaking TV channel which in this day and age is unfortunate. Breakfast was good, albeit in an unavoidably cramped room in the event of two dozen customers attending at the same time. Breakfast staff amounted to the wonderful lady known as "Loli". She works on her own, very hard, cooking, washing up, doing everything to keep the ample buffet stocked, clearing tables for those customers unwilling to meet the basic responsibility of returning their used crockery to the counter they must pass as they leave, and she does it all with a welcoming manner. The management have a gem in Loli and she is surely worthy of special recognition for the service she provides.
