We used this hotel for one night whilst awaiting to travel on the ferry from Santander to Portsmouth. Would most definitely use it again, it is everything a 5-star property should be. Good food, excellent restaurant and bar staff, most welcoming reception staff at all times, and lovely gardens to stroll around in the summer evening. Our bedroom was on a high floor as requested with views over the headland and harbour areas. It was definitely spacious, the bed was really comfy and the bathroom was well supplied with plenty of large towels and the usual array of high quality bathing acceessories. It was a little bit more expensive than we would normally pay but definitely well worth it. We also had our pet dog with us and he was also made most welcome. Plenty of car parking space too, and not difficult to find on arrival.

Room Tip: High floor with Sea view well worth it

A super location with large rooms and ours had a great sea view but compared to other 5 starred hotels this one lacks that spark of vitality. The spa is not free and I couldn't access the wifi. It has an old world charm but needs to step up a gear or two to rival other similar starred hotels I have visited. I was there with three children and a dog so we didn't have dinner in the restaurant but on the terrace. The food was of a good standard but small portions that lacked the flourish you would expect and when the wine was "slopped" into the glass without offer of tasting - it was a reasonably expensive Rioja- that summed up my view that the hotel has " been there" but not "there" now.
It is pleasant, if not a little dusty, but is living on past glories.

This is a truly stunning building and in a super position by the beach with really helpful staff, so that's 5 out of 5 so far......

..... but there was a wedding on and the entire hotel was enveloped by the entertainment / disco PA system from 4 pm til nearly midnight. We had to cancel our booking in the restaurant sadly and get a taxi into town - the smart restaurant is adjacent to the function room.

Worth checking before you book, especially for the weekend

Room Tip: All the rooms have a great view as the hotel sits on high. Beach views are superb.

Majestic looking.......and from the moment you walk through the doors the experience is magnificent. We had a sea view room which was lovely and the room was both airy, clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful at all times and did everything to make our stay good. We ate in the restaurant one night and had the tasting menu.....wow! Lovely food, well presented and served and good value for the standard.
The breakfast was fine with enough choice. We used the bar....prices quite expensive but service and extras were very good.
Overall I would recommend this hotel for the location, staff attentiveness and overall standard which represented good value for money. And thank you to all the staff for making the stay enjoyable.!.

Room Tip: The seaview rooms are lovely.

Stayed here just one night on the way to Leon. It has the feel of a grand old hotel from a number of years ago - nice, easy and relaxing. The staff were excellent. The hotel has splendid views and I would not hesitate to recommend it to any visitor - I will certainly stay there when I visit Santander again.

We have stayed twice at this hotel en route back to our home in southern Spain. The hotel has a lot of elegance, typical of the era in which it was constructed in 1917, when it was patronized by the Royal family of Spain and many dignitaries. It stands in a prominent position overlooking the bay and stunning views of the promontory of La Magdelena. At less than 200€ a night it is value for money although it is slightly tired in places, especially some of the rooms. The restaurant is excellent and classy with good quality food. The lower floor conservatory area is bright and airy and serves a good buffet breakfast, albeit the hot foods are not as hot as they should be. It is an excellent place to stay to explore both the city and the stunning coastal resort area. It is not quite 5 star, but we would thoroughly recommend it at the price,

Room Tip: Go for one of the larger rooms with twin beds, but not on the top floor!

A really grand hotel with oodles of charm and elegance. The bedroom spotless, the bars outstanding, the grounds superb, the food very good. If I had one minor complaint, fresh coffee to be served by a member of staff at breakfast not a machine. Otherwise faultless.
