“Lovely hotel but management need to address some issues”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 September 2013 via mobile

The room was lovely and comfortable. Room facilities good but very slow at replacing bathroom toiletries and plastic glasses. Reception not very welcoming on arrival although porter and female staff very helpful when checking out. Main disappointment when going to collect cases which had been held free of charge until the evening was that we were completely ignored by the man on reception who may have been busy but simply did not acknowledge that we were there and i had to atttact the attention of management to be attended to. This i found to be rude in the extreme and has prevented me from giving five star rating.

We stayed in Gran Hotel in Aug 13 with our 3 kids aged 11,9 and 6. It has beautifully restored and the rooms are modern, comfortable with good facilities. We started in a suite which connected to another bedroom via a private corridor. I thought it was very good value at 130euros a room including breakfast compared to the nearby San Sebastian and French Pyrennes hotels. We liked it so much that we came back later in the trip and had a great room on the top floor that had one double bedroom downstairs then steps to another double and shower room in one of the towers of the hotel with little round portal windows looking down to the beach.
The hotel is directly opposite the Sardinero beach, opposite the casino and a number of nice outdoor restaurants. The area mainly had Spanish tourists.

I stayed in this hotel for 9 nights while studying Spanish in Santander. This is a brand new hotel so the rooms are....brand new. Great design highly functional, extremely comfortable, good bathroom (with walk in shower). The only negative is that the quality of the Sardinero restaurants is OK but not great, but access to the town is simple.
he location is fantastically located for beach access, and getting to the city is simple without a car as the buses run regularly, until about 11pm I think and then not as regular, and are inexpensive with the Bono Bus card (about 70c a trip). Taxis are plentiful and will cost about Euro 7-8 in to and from the city.
I had a king room with a beach/ocean view and it was perfect.
Staff are helpful, friendly, and while english can be limited that's part of the fun of the trip.

Room Tip: Ocean view is perfect.

we stayed for 3 nights in a sea view junior suite and the room was fine, although the sofa and chairs were really uncomfortable, but the views were breathtaking. There was a problem with the wifi one day, which took ages to fix, and it was generally slow especially as we were in a corner room. The reception and seating area are quite clinical and no-one really sat there. The staff in the restaurant and cafe can be really slow to serve you and a bit sullen at times.

My husband and I have just returned from a 5 night stay at the Gran Hotel Sardinero (booked via Brittany Ferries). For mid-June this hotel was empty, but having just been re-built it is in excellent condition. The rooms are of a high quality and the car park (15 euros per night) is easy to find and get in/out of via car elevator. The breakfast was average - a self service buffet and the bar area is nice/casual and looks over the ocean. The location of this hotel couldn't be better, with numerous local restaurants/bars right on the doorstep along with the beautiful Casino and a bus that takes you right into town(running every few minutes) costing 1 euro 30c per person. There is also a handy supermarket called Lupa located at the back of the hotel, and staying at this hotel you are literally footsteps away from the beach.
However, the one thing that let us down at this hotel was the receptionist Paula. From the moment we arrived she didn't smile at us once and didn't make us feel at all welcome during our stay - almost to the point where we felt that we wanted to ask her what her issue was. Her colleague Francisco however was amazing. He was friendly, polite, smily, super helpful and brought the whole attitude of the front desk up.
We would recommend staying in this hotel if you plan on staying in Santander.

Room Tip: Brittany Ferries do not have allocation for double rooms at this hotel - but we requested one and go...

We checked in on a Sunday the reception staff were so nice And professional we got a lovely room. We later went to reception to ask for an iron and were informed that the hotel did not have irons they only offers a pay service for ironing. As we couldn't go out and buy one on a Sunday I asked if I could speak with the manager I thought he might be able to help us out until the Monday by doing a few items. Francisco the receptionist who was ever so helpful called the manager who wouldn't speak with me seemingly expressed to the receptionist that it wasn't worth been disturbed for and wouldn't take my call - told Francisco to give us a full refund if we wanted to go elsewhere! Considering there were few guests in the hotel we found this very strange as we were staying 4 nights . We were only looking for a small bit of understanding as we had never come across a hotel with no iron! We felt the manager Sontiago had totally let down the very professional reception staff down.

Stayed for 2 nights b&b courtesy of a Brittany Ferries mini-break.
Having been to Santander many times, in which time we have seen the old hotel on this site pulled down and rebuilt, we were delighted to stay here.
Rooms were very comfortable, good sized and very quiet. We would not have known the rooms next door were occupied, so well sound-proofed was ours.
Issues - disappointed there was only one EWnglish channel on tv (CNN) and breakfast was a bit haphazard on our first morning, 11 June - looks like there were staffing issues.
Would we stay again? - definitely.
