As a young couple, we found the staff at the desk when we arrived very friendly and could not have done more for us. We found the rooms very spacious, clean and comfortable. Our room was located on the 5th floor at the side of the hotel so our only view from our window was a high rise building, also the high speed wifi is not high speed, even after paying an extra €7.30 to increase the speed of the wifi for 24 hours. Overall our stay at the silken Coliseum was very enjoyable with excellent location near a variety of restaurants, bars, and shops. The hotel is also only an enjoyable 25 minute walk to the beach.

The location of the hotel was excellent and the room sizes were good. However, I thought breakfast was included in the rate but when charged 52 euros for 4 of us to be served with stale burnt pastries and mushy fruity I was less than pleased. So do yourself a financial and culinary favour and find somewhere local for breakfast.

After staying in the excellent Silken Gran Domine in Bilbao we needed a last night stay in Santander before flying home, we booked the Silken Coliseum thinking it would be of a similar standard.
It was certainly the same price and had touches of the cutting edge design of it's sister hotel in Bilbao.
Sadly that is where it stopped.
The rooms were tiny in comparison, no restaurant during the week, little or no accessories in the room and the breakfast selection was disappointing with absolutely no service. No valet parking or spaces left in there car park when we got there which was reasonably early, there is also no facility to book in advance. They send you to a local car park that is not easy to find in the one way system.
Obviously you don't need the Guggenheim to charge.

Room Tip: Stay here before trying the Silken in Bilbao and you want be disappointed.

Dear Guest,

The Silken Hotel Domine is a 5 star hotel and the services they have are not the same as those of the Hotel Silken Coliseum, although we try to approach them.

Anyway we note your comments.

Kind regards

We took a short break (by ferry) to North Spain and decided not to do too much driving and so stayed in Santander. This was a good option as there is plenty to see both in Santander and within a short drive. I added the "friendly" in the title on account of Jose at the desk. Before we made any excursion we checked with him how long it would take. This caused us to extend our plans on the first day and change our plan the second and his advice was spot on. He also recommended restaurants for us to dine in and again he appreciated what we were looking for and directed us to excellent choices.

We didn't have a view from our room but that was OK as we were not in our room other than to sleep. The hotel is very centrally located and pretty much everything is in easy walking distance. Santander is well worth exploring.

The room was comfortable with ample power sockets. The bed was comfortable and wifi was free, as it should be.

We didn't eat in the hotel but had a couple of drinks in the bar and I was pleasantly surprised at the cost when we paid our bill.

If I had to find fault it would be the €17 charge for parking but in a city centre what else could I find and it was so convenient.

OK, so i am at this hotel right now. i just got off the Pont Avon (brittany ferry) from portsmouth. i booked this hotel based on what is says on this page under amenities. that there is FREE HIGH SPEED INTERNET. i have a teenager who cant watch youtube etc because the hotel has limited you to 200k a second. as it says in the room, it is purely for email etc. not youtube/skype / video streaming. you have to pay for that.
i have done multiple tests and the free connection never exceeds 200k. i booked this hotel purely based on the fast wifi. it was the only checkbox i ticked to filter hotels.
if you want high speed, its 7 euros a day.
the hotel is pretty nice, food ok, the only other problem is there is nowhere to pull up in front of the hotel. its inconvenient, but they cant do anything about that. the staff were great.
only english channel on tv is msnbc. lol.

Room Tip: rooms 417/419, poor view (a close block of flats) but very quiet

Stayed here for just one night after disembarking the ferry but next time would stay for longer because Santander is a really nice town and this is a great hotel with perfect location for exploring. The hotel staff could not have have been better. They were professional, helpful and friendly, with good English too. Our room was very spacious with a huge bed and mini-bar - and the bathroom was also a very good size. Basic toiletries are provided and there is a hair dryer and magnifying mirror. Spotlessly clean too. We did not eat dinner in the hotel, preferring to discover tapas bars in town, nor did we have the breakfast. However we did have good coffee and toast in the cafe/bar for very little money. Altogether it was an enjoyable and good value experience and we look forward to returning.

"Superior" room had huge double bed, modern, well presented and comfortable. Staff were very helpful, and free wifi. Car parking at €17 per night was expensive.
Note, rooms "overlooking the old town" means street and some road noise.
The bar serves the most amazing gin & tonic - try one!
