We always stay in this lovely hotel. It is in a quiet position away from the traffic but only 100 yards from the sea front. Very easy tp get into the town as buses stop at the Casino which is nearby.

The hotel has a good cafe and restaurant with a reduced price menu for guests. Both receptionists are very helpfuil and speak english.

the only rooms to avoid are those with a 7 ie 107. 207 as cold in winter

This was a Valentines day present for my girlfriend. I chose it because of the location. It has an amazing view of the sea and in a posh area and the beach is only less than 5 minutes walk away! Near by is a local mini zoo and park which is free.

The room was amazing with a massive Sanyo LCD TV, massive entrance and a huge balcony! Truly modern and AMAZING!

I know there is no pictures of the room on any website so i have uploaded some :)

A really modern and amazing hotel! Oh and if you want the BEST sea view ask for room 405!

Our stay at this hotel could not have been better. We were treated amazingly - the staff were extremely helpful and polite and spoke pretty good english. The food at the hotel was nice too. The room was clean and there was a nice balcony.
The beach is near the hotel, and there is a casino near there too. Bus stops are just outside the hotel.
Excellent!

Booked through Brittany Ferries, the week we spent in this hotel was a completely pleasurable experience. The staff friendly and very helpful.Very clean throughout, modern styling but still comfortable.Breakfast buffet good with plenty of choice.Evening meals also good if not particularly cheap but worth the price for the amusing english menu translations!
Small fridge in room but no tea/coffee making facilities provided,so travel kettle required.Good views from most balconies and general location handy for beaches with good cheap short bus services into the town if the fifteen minute walk is too much.
Overall,an excellent place to stay, thoroughly recommended.

We stayed for a brief break, 3 nights and found it a pleasant place to be. Close to fine beaches, a bit off the main road, so pleasantly quiet. Very clean. Though we did not have a room directly pointing to the seafront, we had some nice views of the sea and the mountains behind. Large balcony which made evenings sitting outside possible. Large, modern furnished room and bathroom. Minimalistic modern style with elegance. Comfortable beds. We did not have breakfast in the hotel, but can recommend the restaurant for dinner, especially a set menu for a very reasonable price. Waiters are very happy to follow individual wishes if you speak to them. Nice atmosphere in the garden section of the restaurant for dinner, very dimmed down music which does not interfere with a good conversation. Easy access to city via bus just round the corner (all major lines are running via this road, so you do not have to worry about bus times).

  • Liked — spacious, clean, good position
  • Disliked — furniture on the balcony could be better, stand for drying towels would be fine

Gran Victoria Hotel, Santander: somewhat flawed.
June 2008
Reviewed by Norman & Fiona, Scotland
The hotel is nicely located above a good sandy beach, ten minutes by local bus (get the 10 trip bonobus ticket from a tobacconist) from the centre of Santander. Be aware that this is not really a four star property - there's no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms - and the junior suites mostly have skylights rather than windows. Their balconies offer a great view of the sky! Should you choose to dine in the hotel, note that the room is small and the hotel's only bar is at one end of it. It attracts a lot of custom and the noise can be disturbing. When we complained, we were advised to move to a table further away from the bar, about 25 feet.................
In summary, this a hotel for the business traveller, not the tourist. Shame.
There are some good snack bars and small restaurants in the immediate area but the real eating action is in Santander itself and is mainly of the Tapas variety.
The reception team at the hotel were unfailingly friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable about the area.

This hotel was OK but I'm not sure I would use it again or recommend it, not for a holiday anyway. It appears to be more tuned to the needs of the business traveller rather than the tourist. The staff on the front desk were not welcoming or helpful and there is next to no tourist information in the hotel.

The rooms were fine and it was nice to have a balcony but the hotel had little atmosphere. It was clean but clinical. Santander itself was lovely and the public transport perfectly adequate but there were much nicer, more touristy looking hotels a little further along the bay.

  • Liked — The breakfast
  • Disliked — The lack of atmosphere and tourist information
