“perfect for the ferry”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

We were on a motorbike and had booked this hostal because we were landing off the ferry at 7pm and we wanted somewhere local and cheap. Ideal location for the ferry. It is literally first right first left from the ferry exit. Basic hotel with decent size rooms and nice and clean. Receptionist there 24hrs and he let us park our bike in the hotel loading place right outside the window so felt very secure. Hotel has maps of the town and is only 10mins walk from the bar and eating arou of town. There is also a great little tapa bar next door for breakfast. Perfect hotel for your first or last night of your holiday.

The hotel is handy for the train station but is located in a rather run down part of town. The staff were excellent but the place is in need of a little refurbishment in parts. No air con and no lift. Good sized rooms and bathroom. This place is fine for a few days if you are on a budget.

So far the worst hotel of my trip. The carpets look like theyre 40 years old. The rooms stink because guests are allowed to smoke in their rooms and the ventilation is poor. But the staff was great. When I complained that I can't even breathe he did all he can to cancel with booking.com and gave me my refund in cash when his machine didn't work. So if you're told by the hotel they can't do anything because it was paid through a third party agent, totally untrue!

We stayed for one night at the start of our holiday and second night at the end. As others have said the hotel is well located for the ferry, train stations and bus station. It was clean and comfortable. The furnishings are a bit basic, but this is reflected in the cost. We were given a voucher to get breakfast at a nearby cafe, which worked well. The hostal is located in the business end of Santandar, away from the beaches and posh hotels. There is a storage room for luggage, if you have some time to kill before catching the train etc.

Room Tip: There is a hotel which is also called San Glorio in a neighbouring street, which is a bit confusing...

Santander is a city with lots of character and the spectacular location would be hard to beat. I stayed at the San Glorio for only 2 nights in March but it was absolutely fine. The room was quite small but I had the luxury as a solo traveller of a very comfy double bed so that more than made up for room size. The receptionists didn’t speak much English (but more to the point, my Spanish is non-existent) but we easily managed the basics and they were very polite at all times. San Glorio is in a good location near the train and bus stations, the room was spotless, the price was right and although the area couldn’t compete with the uptown swanky district, it was handy for my connections with rail and bus. All in all, a basic hostal but I couldn’t fault it in any way. Would happily stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for one at the back - mine was at the front and noisy

Situated in a bustling street near the port, train and bus stations - ideal for travellers (like us). Staff could not have been more helpful and friendly.

Rooms are typical small Spanish hotel - comfortable beds, good shower and sat TV. Walls are a bit thin, and floors wooden, so you do tend to get a fair bit of noise - it wasn't too busy whilst we were there, so not bad for us, but could imagine it would be different if the place was full.

Good value for money.

Stayed one night prior to catching ferry. Very clean, efficient, pretty good value (40 euros all inc) and good breakfast. 24 hour parking down the road (9 euro for motorbike). I'd use it again if I needed to stay in Santander.
