“In one word: Fantastic!”
Reviewed 17 February 2009

Because I am living in Madrid, I was looking for a nice place to go to but not having to travel the whole day. And since Toledo is only 45 minutes by bus, I thought that would be a nice option.

I always check this site as it tells you the stories of the people who have been there, instead of only nice words and pictures from the hotel itself.

I must say, Toledo is not very big, which mean that from the hotel to the big attractions would mean 15 minutes walking (in normal paste). So the location is good. In front of the hotel there is a little parc where you have a nice view on the river.

The hotel itself is one of the nicest I have been to. They transformed an old mill into a hotel, and what I liked is that they kept some of it´s original beams and walls. The room we had was really nice (room 207), except the airco was not working. Not a problem for in February, but keep in mind in summer it can be a major problem, as it will be very hot in Toledo.

The staff was very friendly, helped us with all our question, the place was amazing and the breakfast was more then oke.

So this hotel is definitly something I would recommend to others, but please keep in mind the complaints of other guests about room number 10. Make sure you are in time at the hotel when checking-in (13.00 o clock local time) and do not accept room number 10, as that would ruin your trip!

But based on my experience there, i would give it a 9.5 out of 10!!!!

Have a great trip y´all

  • Liked — The whole experience of being welcome!
  • Disliked — Maybe a small minor point, the airco in our room didnt work. But at reception they were more then willing to help!

My husband and I stayed at the Sercotel Pintor El Greco in January 2009 for 2 nights. The hotel is located within the fort, which adds to the Toledo experience. The location was great, but Toledo is such a small place that, one can walk around the city, no matter where you stay. But we especially loved this location. It had a park opposite, from where one can get pretty views of the Tagus River.
The room was a good size, and the bathroom was almost as big as the room (which we loved!!). The room, and the hotel in general were extremely clean. If you are looking for a grocery store, there is a small department store a short walk away. Most people did not know about the place, and said that we would have to go outside the fort to buy water and stuff from a dept. store.
Just walk around Toledo and get lost, you’ll find your way back somehow!
I would definitely recommend this hotel to everybody.

This small quaint hotel was everything we could have asked for - great location, very helpful staff, parking garage, very affordable, clean and quiet! What more can I say. I would definitely stay there again.

Four years ago we had stayed at the Hostal del Cardenal in Toledo, and we loved it. However, this time, due to inflation and the weak dollar, it was more expensive than we wanted to pay. So, despite a few bad reviews on Trip Advisor, we booked a double room for a special rate of 56 euros per night.

I guess we lucked out. There must have been an overbooking problem, because the 2 people at the desk were discussing which room to give us. The room we received slept four and was bigger than some people's apartments. We were on the 3rd floor (the elevator only went up to the 2nd floor, and we did have to walk up one flight of steps), and the room with its slanting ceilings appeared to have originally been part of the attic. Although there was only one window up toward the ceiling level, the room was very well lit, and did not in any way seem gloomy. The white walls, tile floors, and the dark, antique-style furniture fit in with the atmosphere of the city. The bathroom was spacious, well equipped and very attractive. We a large closet and a wardrobe with safe. We had air-conditioning and a large TV with cable stations. The beds were comfortable, and the room was very quiet.

Although we did not book breakfast, we ended up eating there. They had a nice selection on their buffet.

The staff was pleasant. Thanks to the one lady at the desk who recommended an excellent restaurant for supper.

The location was excellent in the heart of the old Jewish quarter, close to the former synagogues, the Monasterio de San Juan de los Reyes, and the El Greco house (which after 4 years is still closed for renovations!) Across the street is a pleasant park with views down to the Tajo River.

Although we missed the gorgeous gardens of the Hostal del Cardenal, in every other way Hotel Pintor El Greco was the equal or superior of the Cardenal, and at price that was far lower. I would definitely recommend it.

  • Liked — spacious room that fit in with the atmosphere of Toledo
  • Disliked — no complaints at all

We chose this hotel on the basis of reviews, location and the fact it has a garage. The reviews turned out to be broadly accurate, and the garage was easy to park in (not always the case in old towns). The location was good in the sense it was within the city walls and reasonably close to most things, but to get to most places is a steep walk up hill.

We booked a superior room and got about what we expected from this class of hotel - in particular it had very efficient air conditioning and the bathroom was large and modern (although the positioning of some things was odd - going to the loo one almost sat on the hand towels and it was impossible to get loo roll without pulling it off its holder). We had none of the noise problems mentioned in some reviews, indeed the room was very quiet.

There is nowhere to sit in the hotel other than one's room (only one chair) or a small area in reception (but the hotel was being refurbished in part so that may change). The breakfast was standard "continental", but on our first morning the rolls had run out when we arrived at about 9.45 (we saw nothing to say what time breakfast was available) and not replaced - the only bread available was some sliced white which was sweet.

  • Liked — Good room and good garage
  • Disliked — The steep uphill walk to almost everywhere

We THOUGHT we had booked a double room on the internet at 60 euro. When we arrived to check in we found we had not properly confirmed the reservation (our fault). Our desired room type was not available, and the staff was very helpful, offering to find us other accomodations. We decided to stay there and upgrade to a beautiful room (#209), even though it cost us double what we had expected. Our room was thoroughly updated and very quiet. Staff was very helpful with excellent food recommendations. Their breakfast buffet was certainly adequate and fairly priced. Parking was right next door for 12 euro a day. Overall, a clean, well run facility.

After booking this hotel, I had read quite a few unfavorable reviews on various websites. The hotel is clean, the service is excellent and the breakfast more than adequate. And around the corner is one of the best restaurants, in my opinion, in Toledo.
