Pluses - Gorgeous old hotel in great location and pretty easy to find. Good rooms. Wonderfully atmospheric restaurant with good food. Really very good value for the location and atmosphere.

Minus - Lucky to get parking out front but if not public car park opposite. Difficult to get into hotel with a lot of bags, lots of steps and no help available. Staff a bit offhand.

Built into the city walls, this a a beautiful building, with a lovely garden and an unexpectedly good restaurant. The room was perfect, great bed with AC that I actually had to turn down in July. Lovely little balcony, and the bathroom had a bidet. Now that's civilization.
As others have noted, it's quite a climb from where the taxi drops you to the hotel... But the same can be said for all of Toledo. However, this could be a major issue for the less spry, the heavily burdened and the disabled. We were traveling lightly, so no problem for us.
The hotel is located between a city gate and escalators up into the old city... My hat is off to whoever had the idea to build those.
All in all a lovely, perfect, beautiful place. I'd keep it to myself if I thought I'd be going back to Toledo soon.

This is a lovely old building but it is quite hard to get cases in and out as there are 50 big steps and a cobbled path to Reception. The bedroom was comfortable but on the small side. Breakfast was served in a beautiful small dining room but was not topped up, so late comers did not have a good choice.

Just returned from four nights here. The building is a wonderful, old-style Spanish house set in lovely gardens in which there is a bar and restaurant. Our room on the ground floor overlooked the gardens and was clean, comfortable and quiet (despite a late wedding party in the garden!) and with a good quality bed. The only improvement would be the addition of a mini-bar as there is no bar located close to the bedrooms. Breakfast was a reasonable buffet with a range of choices which suited us well - breads, pastries, tortilla, hams, fruits and fruit juices etc. All the staff we met were friendly and pleasant and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Don't book this place if you have trouble with walking up stairs, as it is entered through the gardens and involves a bit of a climb - but the location is fantastic and atmospheric and we found it an easy walk to all city sights and loved the facility to sit in the gardens. Also enjoyed morning runs/walks in the park opposite!

Room Tip: Get a room facing the front so you can look into the garden.

While not perfect it has a lot of historic character and charm and an excellent place if staying overnight in Toledo (which is highly recommended). An easy and short cab ride from the train station and nestled at the base of the city's hill. A beautiful courtyard where you can relax and a smaller inner courtyard if the weather is not perfect outside. Rooms are clean and modern but still with some historic charm. Did not do their breakfast, plenty of choice in town at Plaza Zocodover. Getting into town is easy with a map and sense of adventure. Take the escalators up and follow the narrow winding streets. If you get a little lost, chalk it up to discovering the city. There is also a side gate that will quickly take you to the main road leading up to Zocodover but it does not have the escalators.

A few quibbles or warnings. There is no elevator and getting up to the hotel from the main gate requires a couple flights of stairs (and another flight if staying on the 2nd floor). WiFi only in the lobby. Walls can be a bit thin (sound) but not overly noisy. It is somewhat remote from the town center so if you want to be close to the main attractions or have issues walking, it may not be for you.

We found Hotel del Cardinal quite easily on our arrival in Toledo. Situated on the edge of old town walls it was fairly straightforward to spot. We parked outside in the small public car park and after consulting with the staff member we moved few meters up the road to the underground parking that had a deal with the hotel offering discount. It was a gorgeous hotel with stunning garden, numerous charming seating areas and very beautiful decor. We appreciated the location as we were close enough to all attractions ( escalator takes you to the centre of the old town if you don't fancy walking up the hill and climbing too many stairs) and far enough to relax in peace looking from the city walls out. We got lovely, if a bit tired room on the ground floor overlooking the garden however in the evening we discovered that the outdoor restaurant hosts events in the garden just outside our windows! We managed to get some sleep regardless only to wake up in the morning to a strange, unpleasant smell, not a great beginning of the day. Getting up after 8am we didn't have very much left on the breakfast buffet and it was very hard to find a table as the designated breakfast area was rather small in comparison with the size of the hotel. I guess they were not expecting a lot of people coming to breakfast at the same time!
We will probably come back to the hotel but definitely ask for a room further from the restaurant!

Tricky to find but once there it is well placed for parking and the 6 esculators that take you up to the old city. The Hotel is comfortable and full of antiques and places to sit and relax but has a few surprisingly irritating minuses. The rooms are fine but missing a fridge or a place to make a late night drink. The breakfast is really poor in a dismal crowded first floor room. Poorly replenished unappetising food, indifferent staff and the TV on ! Why when they have a garden full of tables under umbrella's ............................Also one incident when we were relaxing reading in the garden/bar area the Staff turned on blaring music forcing us to retreat and then realise later that it was their way of "clearing the area " for a group eating at the Restaurant that night. Ok but maybe there are better choices than this available.
